seems fair enough

*ATP Q points are worse than WTA Q points.
By:
There's nothing wrong with it.
Though it does make for some ultra weak spots in draws. Look at Stanford draw, then look at it's Q draw. Those 4 players getting in are nowhere near the level of the players in the draw. |
By:
Except Wozniak
By:
Even Wozniak is a lot weaker than most the players in the draw.

why don't better funded non-Asian players go vulture Asian tourneys from time to time
By:
Er well I assume the players that stay at that level aren't better funded because their prospects aren't great.
By:
Eg. Donna went and played a lot of weak tournaments, and still does, but it will change as she moves up the ranks.
By:
Minella does it I guess, though she has some sponsors behind her, and probably earns some off court money for photoshoots that most lower ranked players don't.
By:
Looked at a few 10k factsheets earlier and does the ITF really not organise some cheaper accommodation for the players? Like guest family houses maybe? Surely someone from the tournament staff knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who would provide a bed for these financially struggling tennis players?
The official, recommended places to sleep were mostly hotels in the 100 Euro a night category for a single room. |
By:
Donna at least consistently tries at main tour level rather than vulture itf's
By:
thats a bit much edy
By:
100euros a night imo
By:
how much do theymake on ITF..is that also their job or do some work a job also?
By:
without breakfast
By:
Donna used to play some quite weak ITF's like 2 years ago though. But for most players that isn't financially viable.
By:
Donna vultured Lagos
By:
Not a lot map. Most players at ITF level won't even make money.
Even challenger level you probably have to be consistently making semi's to be making money. |
By:
or probably more
By:
Did you hear btw that WTA broke it's own rules to allow Nanchang to give wildcards to Peng and Zheng. They then modified the rulebook to allow them to give them wildcards.

Good for them. Having two cool local players is good for an event like Nanchang (which did have a much better crowd at least on the weekend than you often see on the WTA tour)
By:
though without chinese participation it likely would've looked different
By:
the bookmakers should sponsor ITF/challenger then if players struggle..the bookies make millions off ITF/challenger
By:
Players with hopes of making it wouldn't map. Some will do stuff on the side. Like coaching etc.
By:
map, why do you think we always call them local waiters?
By:
damn that sucks
By:
they should withold live scoring
By:
and make bookmakers pay
By:
Economics of the events at that level is tough.
By:
yea but what about what i said..books all bet on it
By:
make them contribute
By:
the big federations should put more money into it but that's been brought up plenty of times
By:
Thing is that in tennis some are of the opinion that the 150th ranked player should not make money so he is motivated to improve.
