I don't feel they will get there at all. Taylor's drop yesterday had a bigger impact yesterday than this news. So far....
This is maybe 500. I'm still laying. If anyone is interested, there are three versions in the top 100 on iTunes. |

if it doesn't manage to get past Taylor over the next 48 hours on iTunes, how's it going to win in three weeks... I feel like it would need to be doing 4/5 X. This is such a great market, so many dynamics.

I feel like people used to reflect their feelings in the act of buying music. Which normal person pays for music these days? SM media does that job. Sure they will reflect that they loved the band etc, will they set a date in their diary to pay for a download in two weeks? As I've alluded to, I am highly sceptical.

Taylor's the queen of stream. Her iTunes however does give us a useful benchmark, as these are still relatively speaking, very low numbers.

 In all seriousness, it's a struggle to get the public to download paid for music for anything. Only Hoyle has managed it in enough numbers over the last few years, but that was a completely different scenario. When you can watch it on you tube or stream it for free, who is going to be bothered enough to use their iTunes to spend a pound downloading something they can already easily access. I'm happy to take on the people that feel it will happen. |

No presales function is also a large negative, something that Hoyle leveraged extremely well. If the sales occurring now counted, it would have a shot.

How many people know who is number 1 in the singles chart now. Even cares? And when they would need to make a purchase for it to count towards the Xmas #1. Very few, imo.

Yes so what's the most likely outcome. No big up spike for Pogues on 15th. So most likely, they will need enough momentum going into the start of that chart week from the daily sales leading up to it. How do we price that up.

It's very hard to have a campaign centred around a song that has been with the public every year for many years. And say, don't buy it now, wait until the 15th Dec.

As always, this is the most interesting event in the specials calendar. When you think it might be dead due to industry changes, it isn't! We're in educated guesswork territory here, as there is no historical precedent. It might cruise home but I must have the courage of my convictions.
