Quite possible he's died a week too early

I don't feel they will get there at all. Taylor's drop yesterday had a bigger impact yesterday than this news. So far....

This is maybe 500.

I'm still laying.

If anyone is interested, there are three versions in the top 100 on iTunes.

Hoped he had picked up and been released but
looks like he wanted to go home to die.

Sad news.

if it doesn't manage to get past Taylor over the next 48 hours on iTunes, how's it going to win in three weeks... I feel like it would need to be doing 4/5 X. This is such a great market, so many dynamics.

glad i was short otherwise would of layed that 2.62, massive worry is the campaign will only get stronger and stronger imo
he was born on christmas day, gives it real clout

I feel like people used to reflect their feelings in the act of buying music. Which normal person pays for music these days? SM media does that job. Sure they will reflect that they loved the band etc, will they set a date in their diary to pay for a download in two weeks? As I've alluded to, I am highly sceptical.

Maybe Taylor has peaked too soon

Expect to see Dirty old town creeping up too...

what your failing to consider my old mate is the date of the funeral and the build up

Taylor's the queen of stream. Her iTunes however does give us a useful benchmark, as these are still relatively speaking, very low numbers.

When: 30 Nov 23 14:39
its one of the most iconic christmas tunes ever, i think its a done deal

I can be a bit flippant army. Well, a lot Grin

In all seriousness, it's a struggle to get the public to download paid for music for anything. Only Hoyle has managed it in enough numbers over the last few years, but that was a completely different scenario. When you can watch it on you tube or stream it for free, who is going to be bothered enough to use their iTunes to spend a pound downloading something they can already easily access. I'm happy to take on the people that feel it will happen.

i love a christmas challenge, this could be fat and fun Excited

No presales function is also a large negative, something that Hoyle leveraged extremely well. If the sales occurring now counted, it would have a shot.

When: 30 Nov 23 14:50
i doubt its fully hit the market yet, as word not reached everyone who deem it a certainty

When was the last time you paid for music. Outside of a subscription scenario.

When: 30 Nov 23 15:05
hardly anybody does now. it's so niche. in fact it's vinyl making a comeback more than digital downloads.

even Hoyle had millions of 'loyal' followers. maybe less than 1% of them actually paid for his singles.
By:

When: 30 Nov 23 15:08
yep vinyl is cool again

How many people know who is number 1 in the singles chart now. Even cares? And when they would need to make a purchase for it to count towards the Xmas #1. Very few, imo.
By:
armagnac
When: 30 Nov 23 15:13
agree, this only wins with a serious campaign that knows what its doing, buying at the right time not now.
is piers serious about getting it to number one is the big question ?
has a campaign begun ?

without it, it has NFC

When: 30 Nov 23 15:18
Yes so what's the most likely outcome. No big up spike for Pogues on 15th. So most likely, they will need enough momentum going into the start of that chart week from the daily sales leading up to it. How do we price that up.
By:
armagnac
When: 30 Nov 23 15:20
we need to keep an eye on if anyone picks up the mantle in the next few days. piers may of gave the idea to someone, or someone wants too start one.
if one don't start by sunday i can't see it happening
By:
armagnac
When: 30 Nov 23 15:21
the date of the funeral could be key also, for a campaign to revolve around
By:

When: 30 Nov 23 15:22
pricing up is your department, not much downside currently though is there ?

It's very hard to have a campaign centred around a song that has been with the public every year for many years. And say, don't buy it now, wait until the 15th Dec.

But yes, let's wait and see if something is put together.
By:
armagnac
When: 30 Nov 23 15:31
yep a lot of things need to fall in place, so as it stands its a lay at these odds, i thought a campaign had begun when reading his twitter. does sound more like he's trying to generate interest in someone else doing it and not him.

As always, this is the most interesting event in the specials calendar. When you think it might be dead due to industry changes, it isn't! We're in educated guesswork territory here, as there is no historical precedent. It might cruise home but I must have the courage of my convictions.
