Well, you should be able to work out any streaming increase well in advance of the crucial week

The things I do for gambling purposes, just putting myself through ITV evening news. Top of the show was climate change, followed by a supposed royal race row.

For sure Brushy. I anticipate to return to the original run rate by the time of the chart week. Perhaps a slight elevation.

I`m from his home town, he used to be a regular in a restaurant my family owned. The funeral would normally be on Saturday, probably in Silvermines, to be buried next to his Mother but, with the likes of Johnny Depp and President O`Higgins expected to attend, it might not happen until Monday or Tuesday

Fly in fairytale ointment - heard the bleeped version on the radio, slut has gone too. Horrific. People will be too busy complaining and wondering which version they get on download

Do they also know that they have to wait two weeks for it to count!

Some sensibility is beginning to be restored, and the slump has only just started...

Will anyone else want to deny The Pogues this moment...? Surely kills off any other big push for the top spot, especially for novelty acts, as it wouldn't reflect well on them.  Makes Wham and Mariah even more likely without a concerted campaign though...

Recent form for the Christmas singles chart (2018 to 2022), for the five years LadBaby has been at number one :

Mariah - 4, 8, 2, 4, 4
Wham - 7, 5, 3, 3, 2
Pogues - 11, 14, 6, 7, 13

Fairytale of New York has famously never hit the top spot, of course, and most recently has peaked at number four between 2018 and 2021.

Mariah finally went to number one with All I Want For Christmas at the end of 2020, 26 years after it was first released, while Wham finally hit number one with Last Christmas in the last chart of the year in 2022, 38 years after it was originally released.

None of them have yet scored the Christmas Number One.

We're looking at a very niche area of the population who still care, outside of a fleeting moment of interest, and perhaps sentiment. Inevitably there was going to be a lot of noise around it yesterday due to events. They way of the world now is that the news cycle moves on to the next thing very quickly. We'll see who is still talking about Pogues this time next week.

over the weekend when most are off work and chat more amongst themselves around the pub fire, is when you may see a concerted effort at some sought of campaign. They will still have full belief that this p1sses number 1. Ladbaby will of played into that narrative with how easily he has done it the last 5 years.

You've hit the nail on the head Army - there's an assumption that Fairytale will be Christmas Number One, almost by default due to Shane's death. Whether that actually translates into people downloading it is another matter - not sure there's sufficient motivation (yet).

It needs someone calling daily for downloads on a major breakfast show (Evans on Virgin or Moyles on X) for three days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the run up to Christmas.

You know that the iTunes chart is almost irrelevant in 2023? It's sort of indicative of the transfer of online noise into tangible downloads, which we can see is very limited. In actual sales numbers, you are looking at less than 1000 a day. The market will react to it though. Some context, when Holyes releases initially dropped they would be doing something like 10x the next runner. In XF hey day it was 33x. Pogues is about 2ish x a very modest number, and they don't even count.

“Sidemen” co-founder, Vikkstar releases debut music single

British YouTube star, Vikkstar, is set to release his first solo single “Humans” on December 1st.

Following his first foray into electronic music with the Alan Walker and Dash Berlin collaboration “Better Off Alone (Part III)”, “Humans” will be Vikkstar’s debut original production and something of a statement for the next iteration of his already rich and varied career.

As 1/7 of Europe’s most successful creator group, The Sidemen, Vikkstar is no stranger to online success – in addition to his online profile, Vikkstar has made a name for himself as an in-demand presenter for global brands including McLaren, Virgin Media, and EE. With over 50 million followers and 264 million monthly YouTube views across combined socials, his fans have already embraced his new musical ambitions and 3.5 million monthly Spotify listeners are eagerly awaiting his next release.

Occupational hazard of being involved in specials markets. Playing someone (or people) who are in possession of hyper critical information that isn't in the public domain. Mitigated my Pogues red by two thirds, to one that would be annoying, rather than painful. It's part of the game, caveat emptor. I say well done to those people, even though it is perhaps morally dubious!

Something also niggling me that Pogues went to the top on apple streaming today. Apple is not a massively influential streaming platform in the overall scheme of things, but possibly an indication that the influence of this event may have a more sticky impact on streaming than I'd originally gamed for.
