Being further away from death isn't going to help shane.

Assuming he'd prefer the dead but getting a no1 option

Nope! But I can't see a path to this heat for Pogues whatever happens anyway. I can only assume bookies are pricing it up on casual money. It's on acr so won't win on streaming, and the number of people who will bother to pay and download it when anyone can listen to it for free would be in the hundreds, imo. And the timing has to be perfectly right/wrong anyway.

Yeah didn't think it would be worthy of a new one. It's close to being another xmas top tv market, ie non event. May well be the last year of anything meaningful, maybe occ play around with the rules again.

It's quite fitting given the xmas t10 always includes wham and mariah now

Was looking at the recent record.

No7 last year, behind wham at 2 and mariah at 4

He had about 20 versions of the same song, at 49p or something absurd. So a handful of people repeat downloading the same track. It won't be preloaded like LB so anyone involved  can make a judgement based on actual units. That's my take anyway, unless there is some as yet unknown info. I can see some sort of usp in pushing a song banned from radio as it's too explicit to play, but not a straight one.

'I'll choke you, but I ain't no killer baby'

That will sound just about perfect on the chart countdown, right after..

'Last Christmas, I gave you my heart'

52.7K sales for Jack this week, almost +14% on last week.

For context, Wham! were 54.6K in the Xmas chart week 2022. I guess that's the benchmark with LB dipping out.

Spoty for him yesterday was 588,287. Thursday last week 510,375. So looks to be still on the up, for now.

But more time streaming the xmas playlists means less time for the current hits

Just sayin

Doesn't really work like that. There is a Xmas takeover for sure, but those are bonus streams if you like. The regular chart stuff maintains their pattern. Maybe it tails of for actual Xmas, but won't affect this race which effectively ends on 20th Dec.

These are the yt numbers last two days.

Pos    P+    Track    Streams    Streams+
1    +1
Mazza_l20 - Murdaside (Remix)
303,937    -2,962
2    -1
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
299,646    -16,866
3    =
Jack Harlow - Lovin On Me
277,249    +9,278
4    =
Wham! - Last Christmas
212,886    +8,406

Top one doesn't count. These are not huge when it comes to actual sales, but Jack's are effectively double due to acr. And also still climbing.

Why would the person laying me do so at double figures anyway. Madness! Two plausible winners at this point (three is MC shows some chance of flipping with Wham, but that rend is pretty embedded). If we take out ladbaby which is a very unique phenomenon, the last entry to do enough on digital sales was NHS choir in 2015. So whilst it is possible, not something that I would personally want to be relying on.

Aah Cider, what a market that NHS one was, one of my all time favourite campaigns, with you being the first to highlight them, at 33/1! Just re-read the thread, it`s on Page 3, if you want to revel in past glories

Yes, tim. It's almost a timeline of the evolution of specials. From when XF was selling hundreds of thousands of pressed physical CDs in its heyday, and this was a non event. To the clinically executed campaigns of Rage and NHS, up to the shameless self promotion era of LB in the name of 'charity'. Now most likely the streaming takeover. With Clean Bandit thrown in, in the middle, my fav play in my specials history.

The Xmas songs are streaming way ahead of where they have been in the last few years. I do not have a hypothesis in regard to why that is. This has been the trend so far every week this year. I've backed Wham everywhere I can, so the prices might not last too long. Still between Jack and Wham for me. Keeping a close eye on MC.

Possible something changed on the voice activated devices in relation to Xmas. Really odd, but appears to be across the board.
By:
Cider
When: 26 Nov 23 12:23
Example, Mariah spoty

25.11.23 515K

26.11.22 427K

27.11.21 388K

Actual chart week Xmas 2022 was not as strong as 2021 for the galacticos, so perhaps Xmas is simply being expedited amongst the British public? that yoy uplift is quite significant.

Certainly seems that backing the xmas favs is a good idea.  Though the drunken irish lads are one of those
By:
Cider
When: 26 Nov 23 12:44
I've been backing Wham 20-1 down, as I expected LB not to run after just about avoiding abject humiliation in 22. So there is Wham, Jack, and Mariah if there is some kind of unexpected change in the run rate. But she is more of the party song so Wham tends to strengthen as we get closer to Xmas. For me anyway, nothing else is less than a 33/1 chance, from information in the public domain.

I think it's a shame ring solstice bells or the cocteau's version of frosty the snowman aren't first on these set playlists :(

When: 26 Nov 23 13:09
lol yes well I suppose if nobody pays to listen to music any more, all a chart can realistically do is reflect what people are listening to. I doubt even 1% of the GBP care a jot about what is the number 1 single in the charts, and even fewer at Xmas. It's just a remote part of the online world who cares now, made up of chart die hards and gamblers!

Outside of betting, my read is that the industry will always want charts, as there is still a commercial aspect to them. But they will be an irrelevance to lay people, if they aren't already. So doesn't matter how it is structured.

the real chart is whatever platform you use for streaming the content.
