Moldova: Eight acts advance from O melodie pentru Europa semi-final  http://tinyurl.com/jy8nz99

The semi-final of O Melodie Pentru Europa 2017, the Moldovan national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, has concluded this evening with eight acts qualifying to the next stage of the competition.

Tonight saw the 14 shortlisted semi-finalists competing live to the public and jury for the first time for the right to continue their journey in the national selection.

Voting opened following the performances in which a total of 8 acts qualified to tomorrow evening’s final; four of the acts were chosen by jury vote and four by public televote.

Qualifiers

The first 4 qualifiers of the evening which were determined via the jury are the following:

Ethno Republic & Surorile Osoianu  – Discover Moldova
Diana Brescan – Breathe
Aurel Chirtoac� – Dor de mam�

The remaining 4 qualifiers were as voted for by the public:

This evening we wave goodbye to Emilia Russu, Sandy C, Sergiu Pung�, Big Flash Sound, Nadia Moșneagu and The One.

Unlike past years, Moldova has chosen to only hold one semi-final in their national selection for this year. The eight acts that have qualified will compete in the final which will take place on tomorrow on the 25 February at 18:35 CET (19:35 local time).

The qualifiers

The qualifiers were determined by 100% televote, and are:

Rúnar Eff Rúnarsson – Mér við hlið
Aron Hannes Emilsson – Nótt
Arnar Jónsson & Rakel Pálsdóttir – Til mín

This means that we say goodbye to Hildur, Júlí Heiðar Halldórsson & Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir and Erna Mist Pétursdóttir.

Next week, 6 more acts will compete in the second semi-final of Söngvakeppnin, where another 3 participants will qualify to the grand final. Six acts in total will compete in the final.

I certainly don't think we heard the winner tonight. Still some big guns to show their hand. Russia appear to be struggling to get someone to represent them, but Greece could be strong and we have the likes of Azer, Oz, Armenia and Serbia to come

RTS has yet again for an internal selection in order to determine the Serbian Eurovision act for Kyiv. Tijana Bogićević will defend the Serbain colours at the 2017 ESC in Kyiv. Tijana is no new face when it comes to Eurovision, as she has graced the ESC stage in 2011 when she was Nina’s backing vocacalist. She currently lives in the USA.

The 2017 Serbian entry has been composed and and produced by Borislav Milanov, Bo Persson, Johan Alkenas and Lisa Ann-Marie Linder. The group of composers and authors have been behind the 2014 Austrian Eurovision entry Rise like a Phoenix and 2016 Bulgarian entry If love was a crime.
