So, to panic, or not to panic?
Small green for me, in the belief that she probably won`t win but will be there until the end.  I`m reading it as this week`s variation on her attention-seeking usual line of `I`m finding it so hard.` This story is at least a few hours old and  the market would have been hit hard hours ago if there was anything serious in it, not now when it eventually appears in the press.

Actress Natalie Gumede could be forced to miss this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing as she awaits a medical opinion an agonising back problem.

The former Coronation Street star had to miss training yesterday and went for an MRI scan amid fears that she may have slipped a disc which would cast a shadow over her involvement in the show.

Gumede has already proved to be a dancefloor talent, topping the leader board again at the weekend after achieving a score of 36 from the awestruck judging panel for her rumba to Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie.

She is awaiting the results of her scan to find out the extent of her injury and to see whether she is able to continue training with professional partner Artem Chigvintsev.

He said: ‘We had to finish rehearsal early on Tuesday because of the pain in Natalie's back - if it is serious she might not be able to continue.’

A show source said: ‘She had a slight fall in training on Tuesday which may have contributed to aggravating an old back injury.

‘She fears the worst and would hate not to be able to perform on Saturday. It may be touch and go, we'll have to wait and see.’

Gumede, who became the early favourite to win the contest, is due to perform a quickstep to Yeah by Usher if she manages to compete on Saturday.

The actress hit headlines earlier this week when she received a waves of criticism from viewer due to her previous training, which many believe gives her an unfair advantage.

Shortly after signing for the BBC 1 show it emerged Miss Gumede was listed as ‘highly skilled’ dancer on her agency CV and worked professionally until she suffered an injury aged 19.

The actress was previously credited for her abilities in cabaret, contralto, jazz dancing, Latin American and tap dancing, having started training at the tender age of four.

Strictly Come Dancing hot favourite Natalie Gumede’s performance this weekend is in jeopardy after she injured her back during rehearsals.

The former Corrie actress - originally tipped to win the BBC1 dance competition - fell over while practising the fast-paced quickstep for Saturday’s show.

The star, 29, underwent a cautionary MRI scan on Wednesday for a suspected slipped disc and has been ordered by doctors to rest for 48 hours.

A TV insider said: “The medical team certainly found some swelling on Natalie’s back.

“She’s planning to see a consultant and is putting her feet up for a few days.

“Everyone is hoping she will still be able to dance, but it is all hanging in the balance at the moment.”

Natalie’s worried professional dance partner Artem Chigvintsev expressed his concern to the Mirror.

"We had to finish rehearsals early on Tuesday because of the pain in Natalie’s back - if it is serious she might not be able to continue in the competition," he revealed.

Last Saturday night saw the ex soap babe storm to the top of the leaderboard, scoring 36 for their passionate rumba. Even acid-tongued Craig Revel Horwood praised the couple.

The former Corrie actress could be forced out of the competition.

Natalie was taken to hospital yesterday for emergency treatment after smashing her back during rehearsals.

The bookies’ favourite to win the competition had an MRI scan to see if she had slipped a spinal disc.

The 29-year-old beauty is in so much agony that she is having to pop painkillers.

Medics have ordered her to rest for at least 24 hours.

“We don’t know yet whether she’s going to be well enough to dance on Saturday”
A Strictly insider
A show insider said it now looked as though she may not have slipped a disc but she faces a “race against time” to be fit enough to dance again.

“It’s really touch and go at the moment,” said the source.

“Thankfully it seems she hasn’t slipped a disc but she’s in a lot of pain so she’s going to have to rest.

“We don’t know yet whether she’s going to be well enough to dance on Saturday.

“She’s a pretty determined girl but the pain may just get too much.

“We also have to be careful that she doesn’t do any permanent damage.

“If it looks like she’s not going to get better then she may be forced to pull out of the competition altogether.”

Natalie, who shot to fame as Weatherfield boyfriend beater Kirsty Soames, has been the front-runner to win the BBC dance series since the very beginning.

The former Coronation Street actress – the bookmakers’ favourite at 11/8 to lift the glitterball – was taken to hospital after doubling up in agony during training.

She was given a precautionary scan and ordered to rest for at least 48 hours, meaning she faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s live show.

Her condition will be assessed again tomorrow but show insiders are deeply troubled at the prospect of one of the stars of the series having to leave early.

A source told the Daily Express there were “lots of tears” after her back flared up during another gruelling training session with professional partner Artem Chigvintsev.

Everyone has their fingers crossed for Natalie, but we are all frantically waiting.

Strictly insider

Last night the 31-year-old Russian said: “We had to finish rehearsals early on Tuesday because of the pain in Natalie’s back – she might not be able to continue.”

Natalie, 29, had started the series as a 14/1 rank outsider with bookies Ladbrokes, but a series of sizzling dances saw her odds slashed.

Experts think that her back pain is a recurrence of an old injury from when she was a teenager.

The soap actress has already courted controversy with some claiming she has an unfair advantage over the rest of the celebrities because she is an expert in cabaret, contralto, jazz, Latin American and tap dancing.

The CV her agents distributed described her as “highly skilled” in performing arts, and it emerged she worked professionally until she suffered an injury aged 19.

Her former teacher, Susan Chippendale, 66, said: “She was one of my best tap dancers. She got very high marks in her final tap exams. Obviously, if you’ve trained before, your brain is used to telling your feet what to do.”

If Natalie is forced to leave, odds on this year’s winner would be thrown wide open. Ladbrokes revealed twice as much money had been staked on Natalie to win compared with rivals, singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, 34 (currently second favourite at 11/4), Hollyoaks heart-throb Ashley Taylor Dawson, 31 (now 5/1), TV presenter Susanna Reid (7/1) and model Abbey Clancy (12/1).

A Strictly source said: “Everyone has their fingers crossed for Natalie, but we are all frantically waiting.

“Her appearance on Saturday is still in jeopardy, but we are all hoping she will be fit to dance.”

She's favourite to win this year's 'Strictly Come Dancing' but Natalie Gumede may not even make it to week four of the dance show after injuring her back in training.

The former 'Corrie' star may be forced to pull out after she slipped a disc on Tuesday whilst practising her quickstep routine with partner Artem Chigvintsev.

The actress had an MRI scan yesterday so docs can assess the damage and is also taking painkillers and been told to rest.

A source told The Sun: “Natalie is fearing the worst and would hate not to be able to perform. It is touch and go.”

Natalie and Artem were due to dance to 'Yeah!' by Usher as part of the show’s 'Mixtape' themed night.

It's not the first time Natalie has been injured during training.

Last month she was forced to see a physio after damaging her knee ahead of the first live show after putting in a gruelling six hours of rehearsals each day.

i thought it was the sort of injury that could happen at any time which needs to be checked out to decide how serious it is regards her being able to continue.

If she's too injured to dance this week, they'll miss a week and re-assess next week.  If she can't continue then she's off the show.
