Having fed the data into the programme I have just devised Englebert would have walked it.
By:
LOL, he would have probably done slightly better, but barely.
By:
Does it mean all the “douze points” thing is over, that the commentators from each country will read out scores from 17, 18, 19…. to 26?
By:
Probably; we'll be here till next May if they read the lot out

"Basically, it's likely that songs scoring in the top 10 with both Juries and Televoters would have placed higher, and those way down on one of the metrics would be lower. "
Popking surely the top scoring countries were more favoured with getting 12 points, there was more separation? |
By:
No.
Jury will score 26-1 (order not revealed on tv) Televote will score 26-1 Scores will be added and top 10 results then given on TV in normal 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. |

Still simpler that working out who is through to what stage of University Challenge
By:
With the new scoring, if a country does well on both metrics, they will end up with a score of 50+ which is likely to get the douze points.
But if a song topped the jury ranking, and televoted last, the combined score would only be 27pts and so, a song placing 10th in both metrics would have 34pts and thus place higher in their combined top 10. |
By:
Actually its pretty simple and a lot more democratic. Means every vote counts. Proportional representation almost.

Thought 13/1 a draw in the manure game was value...completely ot
By:
That's what I was saying about it favouring MOR songs pk
By:
Yeah, I didn't disagree. It definitely does favour those songs, but they would still have to place in at least the top half or so on both metrics, if not the top 10 to make a combined top 10. Finishing say 15th on both is still gonna get them nowhere.

Certainly makes me think a tarted up Ukraine song is even better value...12s soon
By:
As long as the national juries vote on the song and not the country (dispora/neighbour) then hopefully their voting will balance out the dispora and neighbour voting of the televoters so should lead to less predictably of douze points etc. but dispora/neighbour voting may still occur in actual voting but with lower amounts then before.
I am hoping that this year with the combined voting change rule that the actual votes will go all over the place and that there is not a huge number of votes between the winner and second place at the end of the night. |

I took 25-1 off Baldy deliberately, hope it wins

I already had it as a decent green and managed a fai bit more today.
Would be favourite in my book if it was from a country with a better record. That never stopped Lena tho. |
By:
I don't think it's as strong as Satellite, jury favourable though.
By:
managed to get just over a ton spread between 6 books at 25/1
By:
Not as strong as Satellite, but it's a very poor year.
If the Psycho woman with her euroision song by numbers wins, then I'll give up |
By:
Lena was one of those occasions where one knew instantly she was going to win. I love those 'Special' moments, which are pretty rare. Great song and infectious charisma/personality.

Most Eurovision experts couldn't stand it

Just noticed Denmark now at 3.85 to back
and 4.2 to lay. I don't get the appeal of it. I must be missing something if this is the winner. |
By:
'Eurovision' songs rarely win these days. More chart friendly songs tend to. The favourite is very 'Eurovision'
By:
I reckon you'll be ok Corbyguy.
The worst special favourite for awhile |

Concern with Dutch song if the voters will get it on one listen. It will certainly stand out if it makes the final.
By:
I got it on 1st listen but I have a strange musical taste.
Early polling encouraging on the forums. 21 votes and 15 have given it 12pts on Escforum. Price is only going shorter imo |
By:
Netherlands has the potential to either do brilliantly or completely flop.
Bulgaria have changed their song to the one that came second in their National Final Ukraine are also releasing their revamped entry tonight, which should be interesting. |
By:
People said the same about Loreen and Lena, Orlaith. I'm hoping brilliantly.
fwiw the escforum poll has 67 votes now. 36 give it 12 pts, 7 10pts and 8 give it 8pts. I can see it leading most fan polls. |

Bulgarias new one

Holland sounds like a bit of a dirge to me...not having it at 12s for now anyway.

That's why I like it
