Don't think this has been posted here yet:
SPOTY Voting & Judging: Terms & conditions SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2013 at First Direct Arena in Leeds The BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be named during a live awards show on Sunday, 15 December 2013 (BBC One & BBC One HD). Voting details and criteria are below. MAIN AWARD - NOMINATION PROCESS FOR TOP 12 CONTENDERS An expert panel (hereafter 'the Panel') will be convened in November 2013 in London to decide the shortlist for the Sports Personality of the Year award. The Sports Personality of the Year production team will provide the Panel with a list of the top 50 or more sportspeople from 2013, including information on their achievements. The Panel will be free to consider other potential candidates. The Panel will comprise 12 members this year: • Four representatives of the BBC: Barbara Slater (director of BBC Sport); Philip Bernie (head of TV sport); Carl Doran (executive editor of Sports Personality of the Year) ; Mark Pougatch (representing BBC Radio 5 live ) • Three representatives of the UK written press: sports editors from The Mail on Sunday, The Mirror and The Telegraph. • Three former nominees: Baroness Tanni-Grey Thompson, Dame Kelly Holmes & Michael Vaughan OBE. • Liz Nicholl OBE, chief executive of UK Sport. • One individual, multi-sport, broadcaster/former Spoty presenter: Sue Barker MBE. The Panel will select a short list of 10 sportspeople on the basis of the following criteria: • Reflects UK sporting achievements on the national and/or international stage; • Represents the breadth and depth of UK sports; and • Takes into account 'impact' over and beyond the sport or sporting achievement in question. The Panel will endeavour to produce a shortlist based on reaching a consensus view. If a consensus view cannot be reached on all or some of the candidates, then the Panel will be asked to vote for the remaining candidates. In the event of a tied vote, the chairperson's decision (director, BBC Sport) will be binding. The shortlist of 10 contenders will be announced during 'The One Show' on Tuesday, 26 November (BBC One, 19:00 GMT) and will also appear on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year website. Vote on the night The public only will decide the winner from the shortlist of 10 contenders during the live show with a phone vote. This will be overseen by an independent adjudicator. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-personality/24145324 The heading saying 12 contenders is a mistake, leftover from last year. |

No mention of female quota
7 blokes 5 girls last year donny, I'm sure there's no quota Likely to be more male dominated this year |
By:
bbc have boxes to tick !
again it would be a great market, but hey ho |
By:
By:
Mind, there will definitely be at least one cricketer in the list looking at those criteria, and I don't know who I'd pick from the summer.
By:
give them team of the year, problem solved
cant see team sky getting it ! |
By:
and nominate charlotte edwards for spoty !
By:
I was just trying to do a list of 10 in my head, and it's very easy to do so without any women. So was trying to work out which women will be nominated and Laura Trott and Christine Ohorugu were the first to spring to mind.

Nobody cares when it's not the cripolympics

Michael Vaughan is on the panel, yet he's in Australia. That suggests to me the decision for the final 10 has long been made.
By:
Maybe, but video conferencing possible
There's surely one on the shortlist, but oo it's Bell tbh Should be Vaughan's mate Sir Paul Collingwood ![]() |
By:
vorny can email a list of 50 in order
better leave the cricketers off the list , at the mo |
By:
Yeah Bell more deserving in terms of Ashes but Broad been our best player across all 3 formats this year. To be honest I thought nominations were a bit later (in a week or so's time) and thought a MOTM performance here would get him nominated.
As it happens we're not winning the match anyway now, ho hum. And calm down Nige! It's only £12 punted on a 100/1 and 500/1 shot |
By:
Nige only works in certainties
![]() |
By:
conman, £12 is a big win to Richard
![]() |
By:
Would've had fair bit more if the liquidity was there. Maybe even £20 !!!
By:
LOL - perfectly calm but it's still £12 that you'll never see again.
By:
Look after the pennies and the pounds will keep themselves.
By:
By:
it's a novel approach nige

By:
I was at an event in London today where Allison Kervin was interviewed.
SPOTY was discussed briefly - the shortlist meetings were over 2 weeks ago and she said they were encouraged by the BBC to think of those which had the biggest impact on public life - this was the key criteria. |
