He'd be a real T3 contender if it was a British or perhaps even European boat, but I don't think being parachuted in to help the Yanks is really a SPOTY votewinner.
As an aside was there in running betting on this - must have been an epic gubbing as NZ were a long way ahead in a race that could have won it for them, but it was called off due to the lack of wind? |

Froome still a lay for WO and t3?
Nowhere today, desultory performance from team gb, his season ends on a downer For spoty we have the Froch fight just before, and a couple of Ashes tests |
|
By:
Froome is a lay all day for me. He's got very little public image. The only proviso is what cross-section of the public vote because you don't necessarily need a big public profile; especially since Andy Murray has this wrapped up and very few people might vote on something already decided.

will bbc put 5 wimmin on the short list, and include a couple of disabled athletes ?
i dont suppose we'll see a top 10 market though |
|
By:
I take your point Darlo, but opposing cyclists in SPOTY has been a road to the poorhouse in recent years, as the cycling community has delivered Hoy, Cav and Wiggo.
Cycling fans could easily get Froome to second especially if voting numbers are thin |

Colin Lewis. But he did tip up Wiggins at 100, and unveiled the Tricia Penrose scandal.

He started the TP scandal, not unveiled
![]() I don't think it was Colin re Sinfield? |

It wasn`t him?

He exposed the whole plot, making full sense of what had been a mystery.. And he`s on page 2 of this thread tipping Sinfield.

Murray is a stand out favourite but Sinfield represents the best trading opportunity at around 85s. The odd years are traditionally week (as no Olympics etc). Apart from Murray there is no obvious contender. However, this year it is the Rugby League World Cup. England will most likely be captained by Kevin Sinfield (66/1 to 100/1 for SPOTY on high street). He is in his early thirties and has won a shed load of trophies with Leeds Rhinos over the years. He is pretty much the Tony McCoy of Rugby league, respected by fans of all club for his exploits over the years. See attached link if in any doubt: |

Done his sums and voting levels really low and ripe for a coordinated campaign. Wouldn't say who was the chosen one unless I agreed. I declined, but it's clear that he's got a decent network to rattle 1000 votes each and obvious who chosen one is now Not sure that exposed the whole plot Any of us could have written that with the info we already had |
|
By:
He was responsible for a large part of the snowball imo
Still not convinced a plot actually existed (the votes part anyway) |
|
By:
I believed him. It`s no coincidence that the whole thing started to unravel and Mr Mark Simplin aborted the plot, knowing that he was rumbled and that a `bought` victory for his wife would be a disaster. Many didn`t believe it at the time, so probably never will. The way things unfolded after Colin`s post left me in no doubt at all.

I don't doubt the initial bets existed, but I doubt the phone plan did
|
|
By:
It was a great story to have spread around the betting community
No need for the votes |
|
By:
Tricia came out and claimed someone was rigging the vote for Speidi
I doubt she would have done that if her husband was plotting the same thing |
|
By:
I think you`re forgetting how inexplicably low her price went, and stayed. There was actual money behind it, not just a rumour.

|
By:
Odd thing to say tbf. I think she just was surprised they came 2nd?
Although she may have known nothing about any plot |

Classic diversionary tactics. Even more suspicious!

No hopers have often traded at bizarre odds on here. This was a little more extreme than normal, but for me was just a rolling snowball that eventually ran out of steam
she was back in double figures before she went iirc |
|
By:
There were seasoned punters on here who were freaked by it and admitted following the money
It was an out of control snowball |
|
By:
yep. I eventually though sod it and layed some 3.
![]() But everyone ran scared of it for ages...easy for snowballs to occur in thin markets |

I`ve just read the that thread again. A good read, and one of my better campaigns, as not `everyone ran scared`!

Don't get too many opportunities like this one. Can even cover Farah if need be.
