Interim chief executive Stephen Morana said the company would shortly be introducing its own fixed-odds sports book, which means it will start taking bets of its own rather than just acting as a marketplace where customers offer bets to each other. ‘Our sports exchange always has been – and always will be – Betfair’s core product,’ said Morana. ‘It has revolutionised the industry and we have a loyal customer base, but we also recognise that there are certain bets at certain times that the exchange, by its nature, cannot offer. ‘Some of our customers are going to traditional bookies for a portion of their betting and we hope to address this with the introduction of an integrated risk product that will complement the exchange, not compete with it.’ Betting exchanges work by having customers offering odds to each other and accepting each other’s bets. But customers who want to get early prices on a race or bet while a match or race is under way might find it hard to find someone to take their bet. Now Betfair will be taking on the risk itself. Betfair has yet to decide on a name for the bookmaking business. The company will be hoping that the move changes its fortunes as it has been going through tough times. It was seen as one of the worst flotations in recent years, listing at £13 a share in October 2010, but falling steadily ever since to close at 871p on Friday. Chief executive David Yu and chairman Ed Wray have both since left the company, which earlier this year was forced to cancel millions of pounds in bets due to a ‘technical failure’. Some analysts are positive about Betfair’s move into bookmaking. Ivor Jones of investment bankers Numis said that while the result of putting a betting exchange and a fixed-odds sports book together was ‘uncertain’, he believed it had ‘the potential to increase profits by over 50 per cent’. Betfair currently has four million registered users, of whom 900,000 gamble regularly. In the year to last April, it made pre-tax profits of £26.6million on turnover of £368.6million. |

Just watched The Voice now on iplayer and have the following comment.....
No sob stories then we get baldy woman with big sob story VT and looking so desparate that it was painful and just a decent cabaret voice... oh dear. Max Milner the star auditionee of the 1st show for me, good voice original presentation and a vote winner for the ladies. Thought Danny was the star judge by a mile, warm and came across as genuine and obviously bright as a button. Thought the whole panel was good tbh and is a good mix of styles and personalities. Although I like Jessie J wasn't quite as smitten as some on here as I found her to be trying a bit to hard at times. |

It is a worry that Jessie may well become a victim of her own success and possible overexposure, and becomes annoying and overbearing over time. Extremely likely if SCowell gets her on board.

I can only hope they intended this in week 1 as they know everyone is studying the judges etc. Atrocious dullfest and you could see exactly why none of them have made it yet

Be interesting to see what their overround will be and how many bold blacks they get on Oddschecker. Likely to be generous early doors. Be ironic if they have worse odds; they won't be able to boast on their adverts. "Our fixed odds prices are crap but our clients still offer the best odds"...not quite the same ring to it.

Betfair will just skim their own prices and add on a fixed percentage to the market spread equally over the market selections.
With a direct price link they will never generate and arb between their sports book and the exchange. Simples!  |

As we are watching recordings atm,has anyone got any idea what stage they have actually reached yet?An article in a TV mag today quotes Tom Jones saying how difficult it was to chose between his contestants in the "battle" round.I guess then that the auditions and battle rounds have all been completed and approx only 15 are still left to go through to the lives?
Are there any spoilers out there with the names of the people who are through?Very difficult to have a punt if the info isn't out there yet. |

Hello folks, just thought I'd pop in to see how much buzz there is about the Voice. For the first time since 2003 I'm watching a reality tv show with no betting interest at all, just sitting down with the family and really enjoying it. Is it my imagination or is this the best reality talent show ever? We love it. No sob stories, no gimmicks, everyone is talented, even the losers leave on a high with positive comments, and we think the judges are great. Hope everyone is doing well.

Yes loving the format. Shows XF and BGT up for the phoney sentimental Cowell con tricks they are. Still good betting opportunities mind.
Took a chance and just had 50 quid on one. Gamble given they may have saved the best till last and s/he might not get picked for lives but this one ticks so many boxes I couldn't resist. If a bigger price on here happy to go in again. |

Thanks bunnyman and good to see you back. I'm not sure how The Voice keeps its uniqueness once the live show starts. The GBP will vote on the whole package; only way is to have it on the radio I guess or have them singing behind a screen.
We all know its NEVER just about the voice. Best hope is that the 4 mentors do their jobs properly unlike the XF frauds and there is no TCO that TPTB want to win. Doing my "homework" on Youtube its clear the yanks think our version is better. Not bad for a load of XF rejects etc. As with the other shows we have early favs who just won't have the voices to get them through various genres and appeal to the GBP. Plus ca change....still a change however small is as good as a rest. |

The other good thing from a betting POV is that the beeb haven't pulled all the contestants previous performances as of yet. So good for research.

Just found another one I really like. 20 on at big odds. Betting Tourettes of course as more still to come plus risk of not getting through plus likely to be better odds on here early doors...still who knows. Plenty of false favs to make a good book methinks.
