The feckers should never have turned this into a lifetime achievement 'gig', but seeing as they have he's a big runner isn't he?

Top 3 quite easily, could threaten Button and Ennis imo

With XF on the other side, and thousands of Man U fans and a few leek suckers tuning in to vote. I would not oppose him

Yeah he can never do anything internationally so this is opportunity to be recognized. Big campaign in the red-tops ? He's close to jolly with anything close to a well organized campaign.

Biggest name on the list, and how many Man U fans in the UK? About 10? ;-)
2 x regional vote.

Two concerns:

1) Tweddle will take a lot of the Welsh vote IMO
2) Giggs lacks a personality

Indeed Gresty.

Check previous winners for personalities Occam ;-)

Would Giggs be suitable for the SPOTY Lifetime Achievement Award instead? (He won't get both)

Occam, Tweddle is English.

could get a massive man united vote and maybe a big football vote as he's such a popular professional

Why would he not get both? I suppose if he wins a Lifetime award people might be inclined not to vote for him, but technically he can win both.

Don't think lifetime is a regular award henry?

Anyway I'm relieved to have greened up on him. Clearly some collusion in the panel to get him on.....

Yep George, they have it every year, decided by BBC Sport.

In fact she's South African!

English parents temporarily in SA where she was born, all moved back to England when she was 18 months. She's lived ever since in England and always represented England. Sounds pretty English to me.

Also interesting how 'few' votes you need to win this. Last year, Hoy won with fewer than 300,000 votes. (Much less than winners of shows like X-Factor, etc.)

Are football fans likely to vote for one from their sport, in the way that the cycling fraternity rallied round to win it for Hoy (and also the cycling team that won the team award last year too)?

Football has the bigger fanbase than motor racing, boxing, athletics or, erm - diving.

Downside could be whether or not you'd ever get a Gooner or Chelsea fan voting for a Man U player. (Although I think Giggs has a lot of respect from a broad enough fanbase whatever team they support.)

Or are there simply 300,000 Man U fans out there that will carry Giggs across the line?

As I said South African ;-)

The Lifetime award seems reserved for old gits just before they die. Curious mix of footballers and foreigners on there
