Absolute torture for poor Allen, Selby even gave him false hope to boot
https://youtu.be/iITJRQkymAE Mark (Allen) sends his regards or at least thats what we think he said… |

People moaning that Selby was playing slowly - look at the shot times v Allen, he was 30.6 seconds, Selby 31.0 seconds.
Allen was playing like a snail as much as Selby was. In terms of 'shot selection' then you can play whatever shot you want of course, if it benefits your play, so total joke if anyone thinks Selby should play 'nicer' for his opponents, why the feck would he in any game, let alone a WC...? ![]() |
By:
We should also add that Selby was the only one actually scoring too, for the potting freaks - he got the only 3 century breaks in the match, as well as more 50 breaks than Mr entertainer Allen

Stu,
Allen got dragged down to Selby's turgid level. That's what he does - he sucks the life out of his opponent & the game. Contrast that with the other semi where both players were feeding off each other & playing brilliant stuff - Selby does the opposite. Furthermore, this coont doesn't just save this win at all costs style for the Worlds either. He does it in Mickey Mouse events too. A perfect example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2EiVbvdwuo&t=278s |

I don't really care about some specific video from history - he played at a reasonable pace here, same as opponent, and played his own shot selection which is perfectly valid.
He is massively skilled, which I love to watch personally, so don't understand the moaners. Obsession with potting seems to have taken over in some pockets (pun not intended). |

Some seem to think that Selby should just say 'here you go Mr Allen' you have some nice pot chances...in a WC semi final

In its heyday Stu, snooker was at Selby's style.
But the game's moved on. He deliberately slows down his opponents to lose their rhythm & flow. In case you didn't bother to watch the video above, Ronnie made a 147 while Selby was dithering over a single shot. |
By:
He's hardly going to just decide to change his style and play like Judd 'missed pot' now is he - either at this stage in his career or in a massive tournament?
He's a 4 time world champion, and many other titles including majors. I'm not even sure about snooker moving on to be honest, as he's one of the greatest and has his style - though you're right some of other greats like Davis did play similar. |

Tbf, Selby would be lightning back in the day.

By:
Yep I'm sure some of the old timers would have given his shot times some addition!
By:
that was a tough match last night, mentally, for Selby...
By:
I'd agree app - I'm not even totally convinced he beats Luca in this final, as Selby (good as he can be) does still lapse in level at some points.
I backed Selby before the semis, so took back my stake, and happy to keep it at that. |

He was weak at the finish but he's not normal. He should be slow to start today for us to get a nice trade in on Brecel but it's never as easy as that with Selby.
He had an exhausting semi a few years back and was well behind in the final due to tiredness but he came storming back. So he can be fatigued. I just don't think Brecel's laissez faire attitude will cut it against Selby. Head to head record says just shovel it on Selby and KISS, but, I've talked myself into utter confusion like a Selby opponent. *****************************************NO BET*********************************** ![]() Good luck guys |

I have hardly watched anything, but did watch last night.
It was a crazy recovery because Allen was winning the type of frames that you would expect Selby to win. No big breaks, and a lot of luck involved. You can't keep getting away with it, and it was always likely that Selby would find an easy enough opening to get over the line. Selby is clearly very good, but he is a dreadful watch. The commentators are almost spelling out that he is taking a ridiculous time over so many shots. It is tiring to watch, and I guess very tiring for his opponents. To a certain extent that must be the idea. I am sure many were hoping he would go out. |

Whatever happens over the next 2 days Selby is the greatest EVER all round player. Very strong in all departments. If successful that's 5 worlds in 9 years. A proper snooker player and an absolute brilliant watch as to how he goes about his work.
By:
selby at 1/2 seems massively overpriced, just cannot see how brecel, with his very open game, can possibly beat selby over a best of 35
By:
I completely agree Pandora, that's a very decent price.

Afternoon. Selby is up 9-6 on the h2h. However, Luca has won 57.03 of all frames played this season. Selby is at 55. I think if Luca has any chance, he has to hope Selby is fatigued and build a healthy lead today. Selby is the King if the one table situation. Hazel said 'Luca Snooker' earlier. Has she been reading the thread?

*55.47 Selby

By:
"Time to get the boys on the baize" duly delivered.
He kept his zombie subprime sel-clapping spectators writing 16 days but the 1.01 was a bargain price. |
By:
Selby down to 1.45 on here so if you can get 1/2 with one of the firms that's the way forward.
By:
looks like this could be a cracking match. diff styles, selby bit jaded early on, still for me NO BET

Yes, snooker was slow back in day - inevitable with so many older players - but I would imagine Selby would be very slow in any era. The difference being that slow players in those days didn't use slow play as a tactic.
People can put up overall similar shot times, but that is clearly distorted by the number of breaks a player is making. Allen wasn't strolling round the table for every safety shot. There is nothing riveting about watching any snooker player walk round a table umpteen times. Gamesmanship is not that appealing in any sport. |

By:
Early days but come on Luca lad keep the head!!!
No mug this fella in the safety department. |
By:
Selby was asking for an energy drink yesterday. How much sleep has he had? Looks fatigued and there for the taking.
By:
Selby does look tired. Great chance for Luca to gain advantage early.
By:
Yep...Don`t worry Luca will make sure he gets an early night!!
By:
Putting hay in the loft here. Gwan Luca!
By:
Never showed a replay of that red by luca, buvketville
By:
Selby making it easy for Luca at the moment - you have to think he'll improve
By:
watching the soccer but loving following the score here. hopefully brecel can get a huge lead by end of the session give himself a chance
By:
People saying Selby's slow should have seen players like Eddie Charlton, Cliff Thorburn and in his later years Terry Griffiths.
Matches sometimes lasted until 2 AM! |
By:
add to that alain robideux, and perrie mans, dennis taylor wasnt much quicker
By:
Twitter fact.
Selby won 3 of his 4 world finals having lost the first session in 3 of 'em! |
By:
Always was going to be Bracel quick out the traps
Selby should grind him down second session Don't want Bracel getting to far ahead though |
By:
Punish him Luca!
By:
Brilliant stuff !!
We are in for a great final |
By:
Just needs to cut down on the unforced errors...
