I've seen that technology used in China. It's so good, as it shows the view the player has of the table from their viewpoint. But, we get graphics with vital statistics like 'positional accuracy', which adds absolutely zero - probably something Phil Yates would like.

they used to have Hawkeye at the Crucible but presumably that went for cost reasons

It's interesting that Desislava was doing the screen/scoring at the end of the session. Is that normal or was Eckhardt kicked off for fing it up?
Another thing - Ronnie has the Netflix cameras following him throughout the tournament for a documentary - was Ronnie playing up a bit for the documentary? It wouldn't surprise me. |

The snooker Hawkeye was so woefully inaccurate as to be useless. Worse than useless, in fact, as it frequently gave a false impression.
By:
Was the bbc that used hawkeye, was never implemented by WS at any stage.
By:
I don't recall hawkeye being inaccurate - the same system is flawless at the tennis

I remember a couple of years ago, one of the female refs allowed a player to bully her into accepting that the player had hit the yellow ball. When it was very obvious that he had missed it (I can't remember which player it was, it might have been Selby) Are these East European female refs really up to the job? Or is it a bit of a gimmick to "broaden the level of interest" in the game?

Don’t watch enough tennis to comment on its accuracy there, but the snooker Hawkeye of a few years ago was dreadful. On many occasions it was so far out as to be embarrassing.
By:
Hawkeye’s inaccuracy was highlighted on one memorable occasion after the referee had announced a touching ball. The commentator turned to Hawkeye to determine if a shot was still possible and the balls were shown as several millimetres apart.

By:
Why does the announcer keep saying "he is desperate" about Trump, when he introduces the players? Seems a bit inappropriate.
By:
That sounds like Ali Carter Des, happened with him last season anyway.
By:
Ah ok, thanks, I remember it, as he was so obviously wrong, I wondered why the ref let him away with it.
By:
what does ronnies warning mean ? does he concede frames if warned again
By:
Yeah, pretty sure it was carter, last season or maybe 1 before. Thing was he was so vehement about it the ref was put in a difficult position and i recall it not being decisive to the frame so why carter got so hot and heavy about it was a bit odd.
By:
Think it means one more warning he loses the frame, two more the match.
By:
I don't watch a lot of snooker. Does the ref have enough authority to overule a player who is trying it on, and say "sorry, but In my opinion, you did not hit the ball" or do they have to accept the word of the player? Even if he is very obviously wrong?
By:
Ref has ultimate authority but they do take players views into account so they generally try to be fair about it. Controversy is rare enough. They can even take the views of spectators if they so wish but can't recall seeing that actually happen lately.
Anyway, here's the Carter thing. https://theoldgreenbaize.com/2020/01/17/major-masters-controversy-as-referee-changes-decision-on-ali-carter-foul/ |

By:
yea, that's the one, thanks.

By:
You can't have a re rack just coz the reds go awkward
By:
absolute JOKE, whats the point in play
By:
This awful hope it improves
By:
sometimes its nice to see the balls go awkward seems the players dom't want any kind of hardship with the balls now
By:
Theyre taking the pi33
![]() Warning players over a shot time in a match that has no shot time theyre even playing contreversy cards in snooker now ffs They insult us daily its a joke |
By:
if that had been Selby vs Higgins they'd have a re-rack if the balls DIDN'T end up like that!
By:
Selby will be getting warned none stop next season judging on that then?
By:
To be fair its nicely set up this match could be a cracker
By:
Ronnie will tire because of age in my opinion
