Robertson trying his hardest to lose again

Selby is still suffering from personal issues?
If he makes it through here he’s done better than I thought he would |

thnk gd selby's out - what a bore it's his fault the match was like that - i went to bed with the score at 11-10 couldn't take any more
good chance williams makes the final now. |

Loved every minute of that match, just war from opening break to last. That 22nd frame was epic, a purists dream as grant would have put it was he still around. Each to his own i guess.

Selby was ahead on all the stats but lost by 3 frames..of 6 frames decided by 25 pts or less,he lost them all
or another way of looking at it is albeit he came thru and showed resolution and calmness he didn't actually play that well but then again many flair players have been ground down by Selby and he withstood that could MJW hose up against him or will it be just the type of player he doesn't want to play against getting into wars of attrition I can see him losing his rag and playing recklessly..intriguing match up |

MJW will be delighted he isn't playing Selby

I couldn't agree more gj - a truly fantastic session that last night. It had a bit of everything, and more. You don't see many matches like that anymore, so you've got to savour them when they do come along. If Selby had won that frame and gone 11-11, it would have been intersting to see how Bingtao would have reacted, but is was pure class the way he took the last in one visit.
It's a bit surprising reading some people went to bed at 11-10 as they couldn't take anymore, particurlarly on the back of Selby rallying from 7-11 to 10-11 with flawless breaks of 86, 117 and 88. But, as you say - each to his own. |

Agree gobe, i wasn't having a go at anybody, just more and more bored by the potfests that dominate the game now, the buckets and excuses, the Phil Yates school of punditry and Steve Davis and his incredible standards. But I'm admittedly old school or maybe just old! People just don't have the patience or stamina anymore i guess.
As much as luck can favour a player over 23 frames, i did think Yan got his fair share of it at crucial times. Had it gone 11-11 Selby is a big favourite for me at that point, but as pointed out earlier, Yan did hold away in all the tight frames so you can't knock him in any way at all. I'm still really intrigued by him, not yet sure what his limits are but could well be this will turn out to be his stage. Thing about MJW, that match against Page was set up for him, Page beaten before opening break off, and it's so much easier to produce your A game when you know you won't be punished unduly when you do make a mistake. You play so much freer and with more confidence. IMO anyway. I'm not really sure how this match will go, but one thing for definite, Williams won't have it all his own way this time. |

not impressed by selby nipping out for a break halfway through a frame - sort of thing he gets up to and i really don't like it. was pleased to see the young man follow him out - not standing for any nonsense

Yes, I agree that Bingtao had the run of the balls, but longer-term I do think there is a lot more to come from him. But, as with players like McGill and Carter previously, the staple shorter formats these days does not suit them, so it is more difficult for them to climb the rankings as easily. Bingtao has looked a Crucible player for a couple of years now, and that win will be a massive boost to his self belief. He will be helped by having a couple of days rest before he takes on Williams. I agree with your comments about Williams, but there looks to be a real steely determination to him this year, which wasn't there last year when he attacked everything, and seemingly had a couldn't-care-less attitude. It should be a tight contest.

Yeah, agree there and been saying for years that the worlds is becoming an increasing anomaly in relation to the rest of the tour that i rarely bother with form leading up to it. Why i could never figure mcgill out for years until it became obvious he was a pure throwback who would only ever come to life when the marathon came around.
I think with Williams that "couldn't give a fck" persona is as much a part of his general demeanour as any tactical match strategy, his way of helping motivate himself as he gets older. Good bit of psychology. That's how I read it anyway. And i think it can unnerve opponents, page for one, but can't see Yan being much bothered by it tbh. |

Isn't Williams mentoring Page? If so they must know each other's game inside out.
Maybe the occasion just got to Page. First time on the big stage and all that. |

I agree that the Selby Yan match was a classic Crucible war, reminiscent of Thorburn/Griffiths all those years ago. The 22nd frame was one of the best frames of snooker I've seen. It wasn't one of those horror shows where both players have lost it - it was top class safety all the way, with some great potting thrown in, and weirdly it felt much shorter than its length to me. You can determine genuine snooker fans from fakes by their reaction to that frame.

Maybe Jackson could have just removed himself entirely from Williams orbit once the draw was made, but he chose the opposite route, even doing a lighthearted preview for bbc alongside Williams, obviously trying to maintain his normal routine. Wouldn't be too hard on him for it tbh, think it was all a process he just had to go through. Harsh lesson but he should learn from it. |

not sure about that. would anyone want to watch that at an exhibition? it's only the drama and what's at stake that makes it watchable. |

Kyren absolutely butchered that bucket maxi attempt, 2 perfect chances to take the "difficult" red off top cushion but for some reason he ducked them both and then got out of position. Were all there for the taking. Should get it done from here though. Tomorrow should be good, guaranteed at least one tight epic finish i reckon, 2 if lucky.

Has there been a drift in the outright on Jack Lis?
He is 38s now and I thought he was lower than that after yesterday's play? |

The Butcher of Bucketville was traded at 1.01 before Wilson made that pressure clearance to go 12-9
