WD - the conveyancing solicitor i used several years ago is top notch and knows SDLT rules backwards. As any good conveyancer should.
Of course if Ange The Flange didn't present the full details regarding ownership of her old property to the solicitor who gave her the wrong advice, then she is to blame for then paying the incorrect tax on her recent purchase. I wonder what criteria was used for her acquiring the mortgage on her new property ? If she has to resign then presumably a big pay cut is on the cards. |
|
By:
She is guilty of hypocrisy and there was fire. I was right.
To be guilty of a crime you first have to establish the facts - these became clear today. Interesting that her issued statement makes no mention of "currently considering legal action against her original SDLT advisers " - Why not include that if she thinks she has really been badly advised ? |

Attacking the mother of a disabled child because her conveyancing lawyer gave her duff advice is not a good look.
Badenoch, The Daily Mail and the Telegraph should hang their heads in shame. |
|
By:
As a mother of a disabled child she has consistently dished out abuse to her political opponents. Don't give it if you can't take it.
|

By:
Just because she is deputy PM and housing minister doesnt mean she is capable of understanding tax law. Anyone who has seen her in recent years must be aware she is not exactly bright. I dont suppose she has deliberately mislead anyone given she may not have understood the advice she was given by her lawyers.

Frankie's excuse was poor advice. He was still bankrupted by the state. And he isn't even in charge of the country's housing policies.

For me the chances that she didn't know she was on shaky ground are 999/1. She probably thought, (or was told) she could get away with it.

Such a bizarre view really, I doubt many of those parent's (sic), have so much access to property that they have to create a trust fund to avoid taxes.

Dotchinite - if it was the Tory Deputy PM or Housing Minister in this pickle then Ms Rayner along with her Labour colleagues would be shouting for them to resign.
What's good for the goose etc etc |
|
By:
yes but they wouldn't!
|
|
By:
|
|
By:
Yes but if for example the Tory housing minister was an ex business type it would be clear that he understood the rules and knew he was doing wrong. I well believe Rayner didnt know what the laws were given that she appears to be barely literate. Give her the benefit of the doubt and some better advisors.
|
|
By:
I'm presuming you're on the wind up Dotchinite ?
You are basically saying that the Labour Housing Minister should not need to be aware of rules governing the housing market whereas the Tory one should ! I know that there is plenty of "two tiering" with this Labour administration but surely it should not be extended to the competency required of Cabinet Ministers. And Ms Rayner is certainly not "barely literate" imo, but if she is as you describe then she has no business being anywhere near such an important Cabinet role. |
|
By:
Oh dear. You don''t know do you?
The child is so disabled that he/she was awarded substantial damages and the trust is a pretty standard arrangement set up by the courts to stop parents spending the damages on themselves. It's not a tax avoidance scheme. That doesn't explain why the property is in the trust. Why would someone purchase a property on the south coast when they have a free luxury apartment in the most desirable part of London, and also have work up north where their disabled child also lives? It makes no sense at all, especially on her salary. |

Is her son Aware of Ange investing his dosh in seaside properties ?
or does she have POA over the Fund ? |
|
By:
She's fukked anyway, it would be better for anyone who doesn't abide this government for her to stick around in her multiple portfolios.
|
|
By:
Im not saying that at all Dixie. Im saying if she was someone with a long career in business I wouldnt believe she didnt know the rules but given her obvious limitations id give her the benefit of the doubt. Whether soneone so limited should be in Govt is another issue but looking at both the Cabinet and the opposition its hard to find even one moderately impressive figure.

The comp was to pay for her sons Care , how can she possibly be investing that Money in property , Insanity
How can that possibly be Legal ? What if ,its a Big if there was a Crash in the property market , the sons Money lost What happens then , i have never heard the like I remind you Starmer has backed this women to the Hilt |

Peterborough's Labour Council leader Dennis Jones Sounds a nice man ,Shocking if what he said is true
What an outfit this mob are |

By:
Shocking if what he has been accused of saying is true
there is not a day Goes By , This Party is an Utter Disaster |
|
By:
A long career in business would be unlikely to give you any more knowledge of SDLT. A Conveyancer or Estate Agent might but why should somebody who had a previous career say in Hedge Funds, Insurance etc have knowledge of it ?
The current crop of politicians are the worst in living memory and that's saying something ! |

Lest we forget
Jenrick’s decision on Desmond-backed development overturned 19 NOVEMBER 2021 BY JONATHAN KNOTT The government has overturned its previous decision to grant planning permission for a controversial scheme backed by the Conservative party donor Richard Desmond to build 1,524 homes in Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets LBC had originally refused permission for the site of the former Westferry Printworks on the Isle of Dogs, and following an appeal, the planning inspector then advised the then communities secretary Robert Jenrick not to grant permission. Despite this, Mr Jenrick granted permission in January 2020. It later emerged that the communities secretary had sat next to Mr Desmond at a fundraising dinner a few months previously, and that Mr Desmond made a £12,000 donation to the Conservatives weeks after the approval. Tower Hamlets challenged the decision, but this was quashed by the High Court in May last year. However, the government has since reviewed the matter again, and housing minister Eddie Hughes yesterday overturned the previous decision on behalf of the communities secretary. |

It really should be a given that Angela Rayner is gone within days, but we’re talking about a government who has persisted with David Lammy as Foreign Secretary and Rachel Reeves as Chancellor of the Exchequer so anything is possible.

I am no expert on Disability Benefits , but what Financial Advantage would be gained by moving the Lads Money , I presume he gets full time Care , Although all I have heard is that he is Blind

‘It’s complicated’ they say.
Why would anyone expect a government minister to deal with something that is complicated? My guess is the Brighton flat will be up for sale again soon or she’ll end up bankrupt. |

Why isn't she suing the lawyers who gave her the incorrect advice ?
Maybe because she didn't supply them with the full facts ? She is still being conservative with the truth. |

Labour are the Temu Government, an absolute joke top to bottom.
Got an email this morning from the Petitions Committee in response to their review of the Governments response to Rupert Lowe’s demands that more data needs collecting in the "Mandatory collection and publication of certain child sexual offender data” petition. They concluded the government hasn’t sufficiently addressed the issue and they need to try again. It really isn’t a surprise, they are doing the least they possibly can get away with, and only moving on anything when pushed. Talking of being pushed, I see the petition calling for an early election (just 1 year in ffs) is somewhere around the million mark. |

Michael Gove defended Zahawi on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday, saying: “My firm understanding is HMRC have no quibble with Nadhim. He’s paid everything that he should, and, people paying their taxes, that’s not a story – people not paying their taxes, yeah that is a problem.”
|
|
By:
Krazi Kwarteng the Chancellor of Liz the Lettuce
In reference to the total amount paid to HMRC, the spokesperson said: “Nadhim Zahawi does not recognise this amount … As he has previously stated, his taxes are properly declared and paid in the UK.” If Zahawi has paid a penalty, it would be hugely embarrassing, given his previous role as chancellor in charge of the UK’s tax system. He has also been a member of a government that has made great efforts to ensure tax is paid in full and on time. Labour said Zahawi should quit because his story “doesn’t add up”. |

I well believe Rayner didnt know what the laws were given that she appears to be barely literate. That bothers me more than the 40k tbh. |
