It’s looked upon with envy to some with an inferiority complex, perhaps, but not a hate icon.

Flags are easy targets,
Union Flag is used in branding all around the world, so likely still seen with great positivity... So there will be some who use it as a target for their bile. Marmite. |

By:
police do not wear the Union Jack, they display a gang emblem.
|
|
By:
Quite right moisok.
They have the emblem of the countryGangster No 1 on their uniform. The Butcher’s Apron is not an icon of hate anymore. |
|
By:
i dont think it goes down very well in my old parish
in fact it certainly doesnt go up there either |
|
By:
i have never seen it flying anywhere in Ireland
is "hate" to strong a word ? |
|
By:
The Union Flag represents the greatest country the world
has ever seen and is ever likely to see. it's also a symbol of hope, that's why so many from most other countries want to come here. |
|

Time moves on and events become historic irishone. Do you think many British people these days care at all what the Irish think of them?
|
|
By:
i thought the Brits ruled the world about 200 years ago
Marched into and took over loads of countries ? So we hated the nazi swastika and now the Russian "Z" for marching into and taking over parts of Ukraine. Surely you are not saying the Union Jack wasn't raised in such circumstances ? That being so .....then it is a "hate" icon ? .....and now all your police are wearing it surely its going to illicit more hatred as some of the above posters have suggested |
|
By:
The more Union Jack flags flying the better
and if any of the woke , leftie , bbc watching , anti British scotch Irish nationalists , dingy loving snowflakes don’t like it too bad They should be placed all along the south of Ireland border , fly them high ! so they can be seen as far as Dublin , thankyou |

No one hates more than the tolerant mob.

"For many ordinary British people, the Union Jack was almost toxic. At best, it felt like the flag of the monarch, not the people. At worst, it was the symbol of fascism. If you hung the Union Jack from your house it was assumed you were a far right-wing racist."

"But when I grew up in England, I don't think I ever touched the Union Jack. It wasn't a hallowed symbol of the nation. We didn't salute it. It never flew in schools. There were no careful rules for its care."
that was written ten years ago ....is it still the same ? |
|
By:
Lots of people have Union Jacks in their garden , quite right
And it should be compulsory |
|
By:
Total drivel irishone. Maybe bigoted people think like that.
A bit like those who call the tricolour the cowards shawl. |
|
By:
Everyone in Britain should have to swear allegiance to the Union Jack
including anyone from you know where - that includes anyone on holiday |
|
By:
Rarely see a union jack in England, nearly always a St Georges Cross, fair play, nothing wrong with that.
|
|
By:
yeah I have no issues with that
funny how the right wing anti irish bigots pollute the thread so there is probably a lot of truth in it |
|
By:
The England flag is fine - but it doesn’t have the aesthetical appeal
But then again no other does |

A police force today launched a review of its uniform policy after an officer was told to remove a Union Jack flag badge. The officer was wearing the badge in support of Care of Police Survivors (COPS), a charity which helps the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty.

Metropolitan Police officers were apparently told they are forbidden to wear the badge - a black and white Union flag with a 'thin blue line' through it - because it could upset 'some communities'.
