Interesting that this article was published literally yesterday.
The UK's pandemic-fuelled streaming boom is officially over after households axed video subscriptions in record numbers to start 2022. More than 1.5 million British households cancelled accounts for services such as Disney+, Now and Apple TV+ during the first three months of the year, new figures show, as the cost of living crisis continues to bite. Families are looking for ways to curb non-essential spending to cope with rising energy, clothing and food prices, with more than half of the terminations attributed to 'money saving'. Numerous lockdowns had led to more people paying for streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+. But this bubble has now burst, according to figures from analytics group Kantar, as households 'start to seriously prioritise where and how their disposable income is spent'. |

I can't say it often enough, put assets into tangible things that people will always NEED, and businesses that produce/sell things that people NEED.
And do it quickly ![]() |

I've already posted this in the twitter thread but I thought the audience of this thread are far more likely to find it an interesting read....
very interesting Bloomberg article on the "poison pill" the twitter board of directors have created to prevent Elon (or anyone) making a hostile take over. I.E. any takeover will have be agreed by the board. Summary: any shareholder who acquires 15% triggers an offer, or give away, to all the other shareholders except the 15%+ holder. In this case the offer being touted is $210 for $420 of twitter shares. Effectively cutting the 15% holding back to 8.1%. Followers of Elon will understand the significance of $420 and that today is also 4/20 in American speakThe article is a great read and education in the way takeovers, hostile takeovers, Tenders, Mergers & corporate raiders work. And also reveals the real reason Oil closed at -$37 two years ago today. (Seems like a few of the "Essex Boys" might be going down for that") https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-04-18/twitter-has-a-poison-pill-now |

Risk assets getting battered and a run to the $
Lose 4290 s+p and we rip even lower Who's buying the dip this time ? |

U.S. stocks sank to the lowest in six weeks as doubts emerged that corporate profits can withstand the Federal Reserve stepping up its battle to tame runaway inflation.
The rout persisted after the cash market closed, as results from Alphabet Inc., Texas Instruments Inc. and Microsoft Corp. disappointed. The biggest ETF that tracks the Nasdaq 100 sank another 1% after the tech-heavy index plunged almost 4% to the lowest in 11 months. Alphabet lost 5.8% and Microsoft was down 1.2% as of 4:10 p.m. in New York. |

No stopping the dollar at the moment either
euro getting absolutely slammed Get the feeling we're approaching an inflection point here, Fed meet nearby... rates yada yada Something very wicked this way comes but which way will they yank it ? |
|
By:
eurozone & gbp will be forced to hike rates considerably, and urgently surely?
unless the fed steps in to supress the $ euro down 6%, £ down 8.5% vs $ since Feb 23rd |
|
By:
It's a mixed picture. Last month's darlings (Tesla/tilray/hexo) are this month's untouchables on this forum, and vice versa (Facebook).
That is not an endorsement of a "buy the dip" strategy. Imagine a policy of backing something because it drifts on betfair . You should be invested for the long term, so it's more important to realise that nobody gets everything right. |

Yen smashed again
Euro under pressure Dollar benefits as the cleanest dirty shirt in the room.. the ongoing race to the bottom for fiat Amazon and Apple earnings out later but liquidity dire apparently.. hence these massive swings .. market makers putting it where they want All starting to heat up into the Fed meeting 50 bps hike and then buy the dip again for a few weeks ? Can't believe they'll do any more than that |

Watch 12,800 level on Nasdaq - below there we tumble sharply imo

Not sure where you are getting your newsfeed, clouded leopard. $14 billion traded on Apple stock yesterday(bang average). Not like you "can't get on."
|
|
By:
Wasn't really what I meant UB
Sure you can get on or off but we've been pillar to post and back again past few weeks.. the meat in the middle of these moves is definitely thinning out... these 20% + dumps on biggest names.. Netflix,Meta,...Tesla (off 42% in 6 weeks jan-feb2022 ! ) . just not normal.. to me signals an unhealthy market |
|
By:
It's the new normal, I think.
You can choose different levels of volatility, matching investments to your temperament. I'm a long-term holder of Aapl (so I have been very fortunate) but pot stocks and bitcoin would be way outside my comfort zone. |
|
By:
New normal describes it well
It's the distribution/accumulation patterns...pretty much algo action when it' like this.. spikes and squeezes .... the middle of these moves are hairy and quick ... will be like this or worse in coming months |
|
By:
I agree with that. Reaction to news and results happens much quicker now.

Everywhere mostly has been red, the reasons are clear.
That said Tilray have had nothing but good news and so there current price of 5 bucks is top value. Buy this dip, hold and add. You will see significant gains this year possibly and next probably, but thereafter 50 bucks will one to bear. Yeah now is a great time to buy into a depressed market and continue over these tough periods you will see the reward. |
|
By:
I agree there too. But it depends when you bought in.
Not knocking your tip but, for the sake of balance, readers should know this about Tilray: What was the highest price for Tilray stock? The all-time high Tilray Brands stock closing price was 214.06 on September 19, 2018. The Tilray Brands 52-week high stock price is 23.04, which is 339.7% above the current share price. The Tilray Brands 52-week low stock price is 4.78, which is 8.8% below the current share price. Now, I'll spare the blushes of another forumite who was dabbling in pot stocks in 2018. |

Yes fair enough that, but if you understand the reasons for the highs and lows and are happy with the company profile, then it's easier.

Fed today innit, half a point expected with more to come, will keep most stock down for a while.
Cider good luck with Tilray. I've had a glance, no more, with that petroleum outfit. Will dig a little deeper but clearly it's a bit of a punt. |

It's a bit like betting markets, you often feel that upcoming news is priced in, like a rate hike. But, when it becomes an actuality, it still shifts the prices.
