Very good interview by the EU ambassador to the U.K. on newsnight , possible movement / agreement on the protocol
Seems to be a very reasonable and sensible chap , if only UK remainers and were likewise .

For the EU, Brexit is over. But we are now in a situation where the EU have to negotiate with a UK that is fooling itself into thinking it's as powerful as the EUCry
The UK had no well-defined economic strategy to replace EU membership, but the EU have been well prepared for a long period of antagonism from the UK

An example of a stunning lack of self awareness from the govt:

George Eustice has called out Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, for suggesting EU countries should force holidaying Britons to go into quarantine.

The environment secretary claimed the move was not necessary, despite the UK itself currently requiring 10-day isolation on return from all EU destinations. “I don’t think such a move would be justified, but obviously it’s for individual countries to make these judgments,” he told LBC Radio.

The UK had more covid cases yesterday than the entire EU and as stated demands that EU entrants quarantine.

mrtopnotch, powerful implies power which implies economic or military strength. The EU has neither as it can't force any EU member to pay more money in or provide any troops. The EU members can decide to mount a joint military or economic campaign but each of them can opt in or out.

there's no EU army?

oh, I thought that was a 'coming soon' fear of the 2016 campaign?  Just like Turkey were on the verge of joining and 100m Turks would then descend on Dover.

strange how it was all Bullsh1t when johnson and farage were the front men, isn't it? Those two paragons of truth and honesty...

There was much "fear mongering" before and after the referendum but it was from both sides and this meant many people voted for either side ,leave or remain for a bizarre variety of obscure reasons ,far to varied to list but this might be true for many many elections and referendums ,perhaps only persons who have done their research and homework should be allowed to vote.
Remember our diabetics were to be deprived of their insulin if we left the EU ,which might have seemed feasible too many ,even though it defies economic sense and logic.

Hence people are asking for the voting age to be dropped ,many UK voters do not speak English and of course often 30% just don't bother but it is the best we have got.

Surprisingly for me that checks out.

So how good is the vaccine at preventing transmission?

The data suggests other factors are at work. Such as last summer when cases dropped off without any vaccine.

Yes.
Except that our government are deciding what to do based on the numbers of infection.

We've vaccinated more than the EU yet their infections are well down on ours.

You'd think it would be the other way around.

The EU commissioner Seflovic did ask the UK if they need more time than the 6 month transition time UK asked for, to get their house in order re the NIP, and the UK said no - another 6 months should be enough.
No big stress by the EU to extend, as long as it's being done in agreement and not unilateral.

Hopefully the UK will now do a bit of work, but will probably wait until after the 12th July to sneak the work through Laugh

The EU can’t threaten Britain with tariffs , they’ve painted themselves into a corner with this one
They have to make the protocol work - for all parties benefit

UK just need to take the steps to implement the NIP - at the moment they are a bit behind, but promise to do so over the next 6 months, after the 12th July Wink

Big NI Protocol benefit

NI dairy co-op Dale Farm has signed a deal to provide Danish dairy giant Arla with with whey protein concentrate, which will be used as an ingredient in infant formula and consumer health ingredients.

Raw milk normally goes to Ireland to be processed. It means that this arrangement can continue unhindered.

Protocol stays deal stays
Protocol goes deal goes

doris clearly signed up for something that wasn't thought through, in the hope he could figure something out later or the EU wouldn't actually enforce it

it's not a great look is it?
