So he admits he has broken the rules as most would interpret them
|
|
By:
He said he was not tested
So he went for a country drive eerrmmm |
|
By:
It was a practice drive
to Barnard Castle. His wife had no cough,no fever. He was fine when they set off to their nicer place in Durham . |
|
By:
Unless someone can prove he has lied (which I doubt), then his coherent and reasonable response should be the end of it.
If it wasn't for the members of the press marauding about with pitchforks and burning torches there would have been no public foment whipped up. It appears to be simply Cummings haters trying to stir things (an opportunity they have been waiting a long time for). |
|
By:
And in the few minutes since I started typing that previous comment the b*stards are still trying to ignore what he said and whip up public feeling against him. It must be awful to have such hate in their hearts.

Cameron called him a psychopath

By:
If there is any diminishment in the public's adherence to the guidelines as they evolve arising from this the the blame is clearly laid at the door of the bitter, crap-stirring journalists.

Can his wife not drive?
|
|
By:
Did he play fast and loose with the rules? Yes
Should he resign or be sacked? Yes (he and his family were actually a danger to life) Do I care about the issue ? A bit - but not overly. What probably annoys me as much as his actions is that he knows that this crock of nonsensical total pile of absolute sh1t he is spouting is believed by absolutely nobody - but just hopes to get through this to save his job. Its highly insulting. |

There's the bargain:
Cummings says that he acted independently of the PM. Govt backs him. |
|
By:
Well any credibility he might have had disappeared in the past hour ... now we know why johnson keeps him on the payroll ... it makes him look good in comparison
what it says about the cabinet ministers who can't be trusted to make the tea or coffee is another thing |
|
By:
Showed no contrition; no regret; decisions in the interest of himself and his family (not public). He's an out-and-out arrogant individual; his interpretation of the lockdown rule is his own alone; no isolation despite with Covid-19 symptom as instructed by government.

The hope is that The Guardian or The Mirror have some more "gold" on Dominic Cummings' actions.
|
|
By:
I wanted him to answer ALL questions - well he did so fair play to him.
|
|
By:
More gold? This was gold?
They brought you pyrites. You bought it. |
|
By:
Not sure, jed.
My take is that Govt backed Cummings on condition Cummings said he acted independently. So, if The Guardian/Mirror have more, we should all take relish in their discomfort. |

I guess after all the setbacks of the last few years, even imaginary victories are sweet.

By:
As a neutral, I can say that Cummings performed well today. Credit where due.
But inevitably Cummings will f**k up again. If Cummings is the ditch that the PM wants to die in, who are we to stop him? |
|
By:
There is zero prospect of Boris dying anywhere anytime soon.
Large majority, largely Leave Parliamentary Party who owe their taste of power entirely to him. 2024 at the earliest. Still, as you say, you're a neutral so I'm sure it doesn't bother you. Much. |
|
By:
We'll see. Johnson looked weak and sick yesterday. As if he knew he was lying on behalf of his aide. Hopefully the country's national treasure The Guardian can give the story a fresh impetus but, if they cannot, we should all salute the effort in dragging this crew before their responsibilities. Not like they were volunteering the information..

I fear you're in for another drawn out disappointment, after those three years when all your Brexit-related wishes were denied.
I cant imagine how you must be feeling now, breath held for an extension to the transition period, knocking deep down that Boris is going to shatter your dreams again. I just hope the couple of days of fun you've had over this is worth it. |

The dates to remember : 31st January 2020. We LEFT the EU.
The next date to remember: 31st December 2020. We leave with or without a deal. Anything else is just a sideshow to keep the REMAINERS hanging on the hook. Have a nice day. |

I actually agree that Cummings did a very good job with some very dodgy material.
The worry for Government supporters should be that he probably HAS saved his job for the moment whereas Boris "The Great Communicator" Johnson had, presumably inadvertently, put him deeper in the s*** the previous day. Dom must be thinking it's time for a new puppet. |

Really sammy? |
|
By:
It's all relative innit.
Perhaps I went a bit OTT there but by contrast with Bozo he was brilliant. |
|
By:
You know I believe him. Mainly because he hasn't come up with some clever excuse, mainly, possibly because he could be found out someday. Tell the truth and devil take the hindmost. What is it they say 'Tell the truth and you won't have to remember anything'.

By:
I believe the events happened as he described them - but not his reasons for doing them.
They went up to Durham because they wanted to self-isolate at a nice location - not because their child was in imminent danger of having no care. They drove to Barnard Castle for a nice little trip out - not because he wanted to test his eyes. The issue is less now what Cummings did - but all the lies that have been told since. |
|
By:
You have no idea AT. You are driven for the wrong reasons.
Anyone can see Cummins and maybe his wife are educated and workaholics. Why would he go to isolate himself away from what drives him? The people who hate him do so because he doesn't curry favour, he doesn't suffer fools gladly and he is driven by his job. I'll bet he did as much work as he could while he was away, when well enough. This is a gang up by a bunch of lying newspapers with an agenda against this country. |
|
By:
all your doing there brigust is showing us why you do vigorously defend him - but your lack of self-awareness prevents you from seeing that
|
|
By:
I'm not sure agenda against Cummings = agenda against the UK.
|
|
By:
Believe him or not Mr Cummings interpreted the lockdown rules to suit, and acted sanctimoniously at yesterday's press conference. He'd so easily have stayed in London and arranged childcare to suit, if necessary, with friends (or supplied by the state); his nieces without Covid-19 symptoms coming down and looking after their young nephew in another part of his London home. As such, he'd not have risked infecting joe public driving to Durham. Also, if his eyes were dodgy he'd so easily have taken more time off work, and not drove and sauntered to the Castle to conduct an eye experiment.
I'm appalled the present government would want to be associated with an advisor so obsessed with himself; so arrogant and non-contrite; a control freak; devoid of humility. He actually believes the government will grind to a halt without him despite the government take on tackling this virus has been just short of woeful. |
|
By:
Actually AT I live next door to a professor and his wife, lovely people, bright as a button but absolutely no common sense. And actually I am not defending them what I am doing is not listening to the anti UK press. The Guardian, the Observer, the Mirror and the Mail. Campaigning newspapers with an agenda that does not involve the truth.
SS Cummings is Boris's senior advisor, he managed the Leave campaign and Boris's general election campaign that is why the campaigning REMAIN newspaper are out to get him. Imp if you make your decisions through newspapers that's up to you. |
