Look, You be civil to me and I will be civil to you. The Brexit polls you refer to were not stacked in the favour of any outcome. I personally made it a toss up so backed the outcome that was the biggest price. Here is a link to those polls here....

The European elections are used as a protest vote. They were in 2014 and they were this year also. The turnout is abysmal and both the parties that led them ( UKIP and the Brexit Party) have failed to win constituency seats in Parliament.
Hopefully, when you look down the polls in the link I provided earlier you will agree with me that overall there wasn't much in it, basically margin of error stuff. |

Leave by 31st now trading 1.29 which is a bit more realistic than 1.43

punter says he uses polls to make a nice income but guessed on the biggest poll in the countrys history, another £2 merchant, the 2016 polls backed a remain landslide hence why remain was 1/10 on the morning of the vote, get your facts straight punter before you start spouting off about makin money from politics, im guessing you backed trump as well to win, joker!!!!!!!!! labour and conservative members were elected on a manifesto commitmeent to implement the result of the referendum, in the case of the tories, they insisted no deal was better than a bad deal. yet 21 tory mps voted with the opposition to defeat the govermeant this week, even though they could usher in a new govermeant led by a leader wanting to campaign on remaining in the eu. and they have the audacity to claim that they are defending democracy, in their warped looking glass world, somethhing is ony democratic if it conincides with what they want. |

defo a £2 merchant, youre not using the polls to bet youre just guessing, you wouldnt of backed remain at 1/10 and im guessing clinton was very short as well

I do think it is possible we will be out by 31st October.
This mob do not believe or understand what Parliamentary Sovereignty is. They will do whatever they can to ignore laws that think do not apply to them. I would not trust them. I would not rely on the bill that they have passed even if it becomes law to be abided by. I am convinced the only way to delay Brexit on October 31st is to take control of the Executive and apply for an extension directly. |
By:
clinton was 1/8 and remain was 1/10, doesnt take a genius to work out its not worth backing either of them
By:
I didn't back remain at 1/10, I don't back anything at that price. I am a value bettor. I don't expect to win all the time on true toss ups such as the EU referendum but if you back the biggest price, you will win long term.

punter and his remain followers are dreamers and anti democratic who just cant accept that we voted leave

For the life of me i cannot understand the nonsense about the referendum 52-48 is not a massive landslide , before cameron called the referendum i do not think it was top of peoples priorities , he only called it because ukip was taking tory votes , sure the Eu is far from from perfect but i think even Margaret Thatcher would not have called a referendum and i hated most of nearly everything she ever done

Now we have people saying they would rather die in a ditch ffs
By:
in the ditch
in the ditch in the ditch Get in Dorris! |
By:
The mistake was calling the referendum, it was always a Pandora's Box, and such issues as this are exactly why politicians are elected in the first place.

Sorry Pete,
Did not know you had a bet on it. I don't think we will be leaving by 31st October personally. I didn't think we would. All these people calling for our Parliament to become Sovereign and free have no idea what they are asking for or even basic mathematic ability. Add to that Dorris throwing away any vestiges of his majority we have a Government who cannot possibly govern. We have an Opposition who until recently could not oppose! I also have a belief that we may not ashley be leaving the EU. I think Brexiters are right in their fears. The Remain Camp is not really moving for a fresh referendum for the Country to decide. They may be at face but the real intention is to manoeuvre the situation that we stay in the EU. I believe they have learned the lessons of the Dark Arts from Messrs Cumming, Chump, Bannon and Fromage and have been returned with savage spin. The dirty war is currently being lost by Brexit. Lessons have been learnt |

Another catastrophic mistake by a Tory Posh Bullingdon Boy and Eton Rifle! He nearly gave the Union away and did not learn his lesson. Again personal ambition and Party interests triumphed over the National Interest and fear of Nigel Fromage and Ukip. With regard to a single issue Referendum There is a problem here with Parliamentary Democracy and Direct democracy. This has been highlighted by the Brexit Issue. The two do not mix. What has been highlighted is the need for the people to get the Representatives they want. We have been lazy in the Western Democracies. Candidates have not been scruntinised and brought to book for their shortcomings. Our voting is tribal. Case in point The Labour Party under Brown and Blair did more for Big Business than the people they were elected to represent. They took us into an illegal war with a country that was not responsible for 9/11 that has mired us in sheite ever since! |
By:
Yer it's pretty much that, you just can't expect the country to be voting when you've got issues like the union and Irish peace process at stake, it's just a nonsense, it's exactly why representative democracy exists in the first place.
By:
One proviso though Pete is that it is clear the Likes of Cummings and Rees Mogg do not care about what they have to do. The default is out on 31st October. They will do whatever they can even if it is illegal or morally wrong. Nothing can be taken for granted but your money is most probably safe but well done for greening out in any case!
The only money that is political is the Petro Dollar. If you are a country that has it, America wants it. Venezuela, Iran and Iraq! |
By:
The problem really with the system is FPTP sucks, basically making it a 2 party system. It also similar to eg. the US system means that many voices are in effect worthless, the ones that matter are those in the marginal seats. The tribal nature doesn't help either, ie. too many people would vote the same way no matter what, things like postal system don't help here as they give a huge edge the two main parties who just target their bases for easy postal votes.
By:
Though for FPTP to change the political landscape would have to change massively, it would have to completely fracture for anyone to agree to change. As it's in favour for all of Tories, Labour, SNP to keep it the way it is right now.
By:
And we are hardly in an atmosphere and culture that could possibly retune itself to some form of PR
By:
Well the whole system would have to change. Eg. over here coalition is seen as a bad thing meaning government gets nothing done, yet in many places coalition is the norm.
By:
The Scottish parliament elects 73 members on a FTTP system and 56 on a PR system.
It was designed to make it nigh on impossible to have a single party with an outright majority, only one of the four parliaments has returned an overall majority for a single party. |
By:
I like FPTP
I think it has worked well for us. In this country we do not generally discuss Religion or Politics for obvious reasons. The Civil War destroyed many families and friends. I certainly hope the Brexit debate does not destroy friendships or families. I do like the fact that Parliament and our laws are under the microscope. There is so much to lean right now I think it is fantastic! |

Suffering from insomnia last night after watching the US Open tennis, I turned over to the Parliament channel.
They were re-running the Lords debate on the Benn bill. There were a number of wise old heads, speaking in a calm and logical manner. Quite a contrast from the other place. |
