just going by this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_United_Kingdom_government_formation where there is no mention of Brown going to the Queen even though he entitled to try and form a govt as he was sitting PM and trying to do so. There is also this snippet on that page: Under the constitutional rules governing protocol in the event of a hung parliament, Brown, as the sitting Prime Minister, would remain in office until a new government could be formed, a process which could continue without resolution until the State Opening of Parliament, which was scheduled for 25 May. |
By:
Brown went to the palace to resign once he came to the conclusion he couldn't form a government...thereafter Cameron went to the palace saying he had formed a coalition

According to Sky News: Queen's Speech may be delayed until 26th of June.
By:
Inconceivable that it would disrupt Ascot

By:
Well hardly inconcievable, but yes

Again, i am pretty sure that betfair told me that the market would be settled when may went to the Queen. And as they closed the market then it seems like that was the original decision. To change their minds after telling us one thing is disgraceful and they at least should apologise.

On the basis that the funds on a Tess lay are not live changing enough for the DUP 10, I'm piling more in at 1.06. The delay is still much better than a 3% before tax on 12 months for 6% tax free in two weeks, even if I have to wait that long

To back Tess I should clarify

T May - this is no time to watch a football match!

Having been double spaced by Bob, what I was saying that I did a similarly pile on Clinton for Dem Nomination at a point where she was certain to get it but then had to sweat on her being assassinated or arrested for weeks.
By:
Well Fats they could surely all do with being assassinated - both sides of the pond
By:
winningthought i'm intrigued why you spelt inconceivable inconcievable......
By:
Remember Brown's Labour party had 48 seats fewer than the Conservatives whereas May's Conservative party has 55 seats more than Labour. That is why the sequence of events differ.
By:
Just topped up on this. Not long to wait now, apparently, before announcement. Then hopefully market can be closed and settled.
By:
Announcement could be delayed because the Greenfell fire
By:
This is bloody ridiculous. Just get on with the work, are they going to delay it every couple of days because something keeps coming up.
By:
The delays are offering tremendous value for anyone that doesn't mind waiting a day or so for their profit
Surprised the big value hitters haven't gobbled it all up down to 1.01 |
By:
MPs are being sworn in. So there is a Parliament. Must be a PM. Who is it?
By:
I believe agreement has been made - otherwise swearing in of MPs to form Parliament would not occur - but the announcement of that agreement has been delayed. Talks have concluded.

BBC -•Jeremy Corbyn demands to know the details of the deal
By:
So a deal is in place
Market to be settled now? At minimum when Betfair see the news, about time |
By:
This is the market that refused to die. I managed to top up even further at 1.12. I don't think they can possibly back out from the agreement now, so heavily trailed has it been. I think I'll take some 1.08 too - chasing my cricket and football losses somewhat, I admit but it's an awfully good bet.
By:
Impossible to say when Betfair will settle. They may wait for the official announcement. Could be some time yet. The market lives on...

2017 - UK General Election - Prime Minister After Election
Just to remind myself that this is indeed the market I bet in and it the election that was held last week. It would seem though that Betfair are unsure as to the outcome. Lets hope that May remains alive and well at least until such time as Betfair feels that market rules have been satisfied. It could raise no end of arguments, otherwise. Rate reply: |

well , even jeremy corbyn and the labour party have conceded that theresa may is prime minister for the new parliament.
it seems that the 1.07 still available is only on whether she lives long enough for betfair to settle |

The Queens Speech is set to take place on Wednesday the 21st
By:
will be 12.00 noon at the very latest so the queen can head the parade at ascot at 2.00 pm
By:
i see that she has said that she will be wearing her ascot clothes to save time
By:
Just as well we don't have to wait on the Queen's speech for the market to be settled.
Just waiting on announcement on deal, allegedly anyway! |
By:
We're not going to get an announcement on a deal, can't you see. We're waiting on the vote. Either the DUP vote with the Tories and then May is PM, or they don't vote that way and the **** hits the fan. That's when you'll find out if a deal is in place.
By:
You've contradicted yourself there, surely

A formal announcement should be enough. The "Government" then put forward their plans via the Queens speech. So they are the "Government" when they put the speech forward, and Teresa May is the PM too.
That's what I'm hoping for anyway, I want my liability back before Ascot..... |
By:
What will happen is the Queen will read a speech written by the Tories. The House of Commons then vote to qccept the speen, the Tories will vote for it. We then have to wait to see if anyone else votes the same way. Anyone could vote for it but it doesn't mean there is any deal in place. If anyone votes the same way it does not mean there is any deal in place.
We'll have to wait until Wednesday to see what happens. |
By:
You might be right. They vote on the Queen's speech on the 27th June mind you, so that would be a longer wait.
What I can't understand is how there's still plenty to lay on Lab Minority & Lab/SNP/Lib coalition, when Labour would need to DUP to support them to get a Queens speech through......The DUP support the "Union" foremost so would never get involved with the SNP, and furthermore they hate Corbyn with a passion! The worst that could happen is a "void" market, if nobody can form a government. |
By:
If/when the DUP agree a deal with the tories, an announcement will be made.
When that happens the market will be settled (imo) This market has nothing to do with the Queen's speech. That is my opinion anyway, that said I did think the market would've been settled by now |

Of course nobody has given a thought to what might happen if some of the hard right Conservatives think the Queen's speech is diluting Brexit and therefore vote against...very unlikely but some of the loons might convince themselves they're putting country before party.
