as far as "mentoring/advice" for a project like this, all I would say is put in the work and you will run circles around these guys, deep down you know it. I'm sure you could crush the 75s on** (these are the highest stake 45 mans I know of, maybe theres some on *s), so just put in the high volume playing abc stuff and you will I am sure turn 650 into 1300 in no time; i'd guess first is 100ish in the 6s so to do this in a week should normally be a breeze, maybe quicker if you're 8-12 tabling or whatever.
I like the 100 buyin rule, you won't go wrong with that EVER. Whe you move upto $12 with 12-1300 it should really be plain sailing from there, the start will be the hardest part, gotta be prepared for a long boring grind in the interim. |

Whyyy..ssoooo...sssseriouss? 14 Dec 22:39
all of those sng tools and programs are garbage, an absolute waste of time that do nothing to improve your game Just using table ninja to auto close lobbies and auto reg for games. Can sometimes throw you off track when you are 16 tabling and need to keep aligning tables, registering and closing lobbies. Dont use it for anything else other than that. |

just finished another mini session. Feel tilted to ** for the first time ever playing these. Got 24 games in, i think. Constantly getting donk called by stuff like QT and watching it get there everytime was painful. Also had the pleasure of watching AA and KK fail epically on most occasions against stuff that just cant make a hand like K7o, but it got there.
Previous bank $755 Current bank $697 |

even if you are a winng player its a constant sruggle to stay in the game my bank is alway about 300 to 500 quid and sometimes i can hit my last 50 quid and thats life , it aint because iam a losing player but u use the money to live and there is very little point in making money if you just going to keep it for gambling , been playing under lippycallaghan on ipoka for the last 6 months and while i like my figures it feels like at the end of the day i am just wasting my time
By:
Reactive mate, good to hear from you been a while.
You really should put up a staking thread. Feel free to copy my template if you like. Im sure if you wanted to do what im doing a) people would jump at the chance to stake you b) you could crush these games. Maybe even stick up a staking thread for $12 45 mans with a $1200 bank. I have no doubt you would get the money, and it would take a lot of pressure off you mate! |
By:
hi ben nice to see you are still around , was just an observation on some of the criticism that was on the thread , anybody that has been at this as long as we have knows that the swings are part of the cycle as are the beats , hope you have a couple of good weeks and give it a serious lash in the new year
By:
But once you hit that 50 quid reactive, you just reload from your bank account, surely? It is a struggle, but then if it was easy everybody would do it and stay in bed instead of going to work!
Imo unless you are playing fairly high stakes, poker is not an option long term job wise at all. And who's to say the games won't dry up in 2 yrs, then where are you left? But then I guess peoples expectations are different aswell. I've heard it said a few times, if somebody is able to make regular consistent money at poker, then they would have the skills to be successful in most other things they put their (my!) lazy @rse minds to, which is very true imo. |
By:
my bank a/c lol :) my ave stake is $17 but because i do rebuys these flucuate erratically i have had 2k or 3k down swings this year which peole would say at my stakes is not really possible but it is and doesnt mean u are doing much wrong , iwent bust in 2003 with my own business and tbh knew it was coming for 6 years before i pulled the plug and such is life also mtt variance is ina league of its own , never rated myself as a cash player despite doing 3 months in vegas just playing live cash and while a good experience not to sure if i would fancy doing it again , played this game full time for 5 of the last 6 years at peasant stakes and it has the advantage of freedom which u cant buy , no office politics another major plus and if you have a business which i did the pressure of being responsible for other peoples living as well as your own is far greater pressure than you will ever face on a poker table
By:
m8 i have done the same, last 5yrs or so. And like you, have never been a cash player. Have broken even at the cash tables without rake when i've sat,and will sit of a weekend if im in, but always been a torney player, pretty much 100% mtt's last yr or so at least.
Agree about office politics and all the extra bother that goes with a job and you obviously have more life experience than me, but I played while at uni and still haven't got a job, been happy to rely on poker. Have been travelling though and had freedom to do whatever which is great and poker has been very kind in that respect, but I start a new job in Jan (haven't worked for 6yrs, which was only P/t while alevels anyway) and am looking forward to playing a couple of nights a week and not having to keep withdrawing from my accounts to live etc. I want my own property, and that will happen 10 times faster with work AND poker i think. I appreciate everybody has their own circumstances though. I'm sure I'll change my view after 2weeks of work :) |
By:
reactive you ever tried plo cash? i played small stakes earlier this year, made an ok profit but never put enough hours in to justify playing full time.
I'd be surprised if you couldn't do well, the standard on eye was dire. |
By:
and you are a tough cookie living and playing in vegas for 3 months. A week was enough for me in that place, and I only played 3 mtts whilst I was there lol

there has to be easier ways to make a full time living than grinding it out at low stakes.
i'm quite lucky in that i like my day job and i work with a great bunch of people. i have a laugh and am grateful for steady regular income. playing online poker full time would be really boring after a while, unless you were playing high stakes. i play lowish stakes for recreation and because i can make £4k-£5k a year tax free from the comfort of my own home playing whenever i feel like it. the beats at low stakes are sometimes tilt inducing, particularly with donk calls, but its the donk callers that make us winners in the long run. first 2 games i played on sunday i got these beauties. you just have to shrug it off and carry on ; ***** Betfair Poker Hand History for Game 619131222 ***** NL Texas Hold'em $22 Buy-in + $2.20 Entry Fee, Level:2 Blinds(15/30-(no ante)) - Sunday, December 13, 10:41:25 GMT 2009 D2N Turbo NL Hold'em $24.20 #3617549 Table 1 6-max (Real Money) Seat 5 is the button Total number of active players : 6 Seat 1: chipfire227 ( 905 ) Seat 2: spitmurf ( 1,565 ) Seat 3: clicquott ( 920 ) Seat 4: marcocus ( 925 ) Seat 5: PALERMO3 ( 805 ) Seat 6: luckygeorgy ( 880 ) Tourney Level:2 Blinds(15/30-(no ante)) luckygeorgy posts small blind [15] chipfire227 posts big blind [30] ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to chipfire227 [ Kc, Ks ] spitmurf calls [30] clicquott folds marcocus calls [30] PALERMO3 folds luckygeorgy calls [15] chipfire227 raises to [100] spitmurf calls [70] marcocus calls [70] luckygeorgy calls [70] ** Dealing Flop ** [ Jh, 5d, 4c ] luckygeorgy checks chipfire227 bets [400] spitmurf folds marcocus folds luckygeorgy goes all-in luckygeorgy raises to [780] chipfire227 calls [380] ** Showdown ** chipfire227 shows [ Kc, Ks ] luckygeorgy shows [ 3c, Jc ] ** Dealing Turn ** [ 2s ] ** Dealing River ** [ 6d ] ** Hand Conclusion ** luckygeorgy wins 1,960 from main pot with a straight, Six To Deuce ************ Game 619131222 ends ************ Seat 3: splittino ( 2,280 ) Seat 4: slk171 ( 310 ) Seat 5: chipfire227 ( 1,500 ) Seat 6: NFFCTricky ( 1,910 ) Tourney Level:6 Blinds(100/200-(no ante)) chipfire227 posts small blind [100] NFFCTricky posts big blind [200] ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to chipfire227 [ As, Ah ] splittino folds slk171 folds chipfire227 calls [100] NFFCTricky checks ** Dealing Flop ** [ 5c, Kh, 9d ] chipfire227 checks NFFCTricky bets [200] chipfire227 raises to [400] NFFCTricky goes all-in NFFCTricky raises to [1,710] chipfire227 calls [900] chipfire227 goes all-in Returning uncalled bet [410] to NFFCTricky ** Showdown ** chipfire227 shows [ As, Ah ] NFFCTricky shows [ 6h, Ks ] ** Dealing Turn ** [ 3d ] ** Dealing River ** [ 6d ] ** Hand Conclusion ** NFFCTricky wins 3,000 from main pot with two pair, Kings and Sixes ************ Game 619132123 ends ************ |

even low stakes players can make a healthy living at the game, it all depends on how much u need to live the lifestyle u choose.... for example u could easily make £300 a week from 20$ sng with cake and bonuses... although this is not enough for some, to somepeople £300 a week tax free is a very healthy wage.... as for the boredom it is no different to any job, and i would say poker is much more enjoyable than a lot of jobs....

Cheers Chipfire for those two bad beats really enjoyed them.

U can make $5k a month quite easily playing low stake sng if u multitable. It's all about the $$$s |

Just put in a mini 18 game ssion before i head out tonight. Still pretty sick getting donk called loads round the bubble. Strange cos i prob have one of the tightest shoving ranges in these games.
Starting bank $650 Previous bank $697 Current bank $760 Total games played - 121 |
By:
nice one ben. i wouldnt even think about shoving ranges at those stakes. 90% of players would have no idea how many hands you had or hadnt played.
all the see are the 2 cards in front of them. any ace or 2 suited cards and in go the ***** standard abc will maintain a positive roi in the long term. |
By:
Ben I have also found that raising to induce with marginal hands can be -ev in these cause everyone likes to defend their blinds, sometimes it better to just shove instead
u may have already worked this out already lol. oh and ps - you'll NEVER feel like u are running good in these i swear. Cause almost always ur money will be in good, either that or u get coolered. |
By:
How many players in a sng?
By:
Anyway what i am looking to be staked for - $6.50 turbo 45 mans on stars.

Played about a 40 game session. 2 cashes 4th and 7th. WTF Will post a proper update in the morning, too angry to do it at the moment. Do they fill these games with the most mentally challenged people in the world? Or do they all have a crystal ball? |
By:
If it carries on like this i do one of two things.
Call it off and refund whats left Withdraw all go get absolutly paraletic then dissapear forever. Please start running at least 1/4 average to save joffy, ka ka, engy and itchys money. ty poker gods |
By:
chill winston! just crush it tomorro.
By:
I feel it wouldn't be justice to me and the stakers unless i put in 20 more games to try and get some of tonights losses back, lol
Gl me |
By:
More bad news. Stuck in another 20 games and got 1 cash. Makes a total of 58~ games since the last post
Starting bank $650 Previous bank $760 Current bank $564 Total games played - 179 i make that a nice 30 buy in downswing from the last session. Not really what i wanted to start. :( |
By:
Have u tried the 18 man sng on starz? i think these are better personally as much easier to cash in... people havent got a clue how to play them...
By:
ur only $86 down, that's fk all. Just take it as getting a load of run bad out of the way. Anyway u know all this as well as I do & also that when u re-start today you will be brim full of PMA and all that tilt will be gone. :D
By:
Its a bit worrying when you have only compelted 2% of the task and yr already thinking abt chucking it in.
Head down boy and grind it out ;) |
By:
God knows what I was thinking when I questioned the sensibility of this staking exercise.
By:
guess it's this kind of beats your getting lenny ? These are both in a 45 man too, you wonder what they're thinking, or are they just simply not thinking ......
