Quality racing today with the start of the second best meeting of the year only surpassed by Glorious Goodwood. Fiercely competitive racing at a track that many don't act on with the draw conundrum thrown in for good measure. As this is my final week I have my first maximum bet for two months today !

2.30 FRANKEL

No bet but cannot take this one on so just watch and appreciate and hope nothing goes wrong.

3.00 ORTENSIA 1PT WIN PONTY ACCLAIM 1PT WIN

Impossible race which may go to a low drawn horse and the two I like best are Ortensia and Ponty Acclaim. Ortensia has the right profile as this race is often won by a foreign horse. I thought it had actually won at the course but the wins were at Ascot in Australia !.  Ponty Acclaim has a possible chance on a form line through Caledonia Lady and as the older horses aren't that good may be worth a small bet in case she has improved past them.

3.45 MOST IMPROVED 1PT WIN

This horse was widely touted for the 2000 guineas before missing the race through injury and met trouble in running when re appearing in France. If you excuse this run it might be one of the few horses that is unexposed along perhaps with The Nile and Cogito.

4.25 ENGLISHMAN 1PT WIN

The best race of the day for me and I have to chose from Sir Prancelot, Artigiano,Funk Soul Brother and Englishman. Although impressed by Sir Prancelot the price is a little too short and as Michael Hills appears to have chosen Englishman over Funk Soul Brother I will take a chance with him


5.00 AL KHAWANEEJ 4 PTS WIN

This huge horse has improved with each run this year and a further step un in trip should suit. As it is so strong a 5lb hike in the weights for its last win will make no difference and I make him the second best bet of the day.

5.35 LYRIC ACE 5 PTS WIN - MAX

By this time we should know whether it is best to be drawn high or low and hopefully the low numbers will have done well. Lyric Ace has been absent from the track for a while but provided he is fit his two runs appear to be a class above his rivals here.
