silly rule only one false start, switched it off after bolt was elimated,,no point in watching if bolt isnt in it,jam runner that won it wouldve been miles behind bolt if he had run
By:
1.01 a rule change prior to Olympics?
By:
Its the same for everyone. But its a stupid rule. One false start is to harsh. Should be changed.
By:
It seems to me that Bolt was fixed. How much Bolt would get for the win?
By:
It's ridiculous disqualifying after one false start... they should go back to one false start by a runner then the field all go on a final warning
By:
Don't think it was fixed. But the minute i seen it i taught that. Looks very suspect. His over reaction and the fact he went so early.

book
braindead farah backers, lumped on too early,1.05 down the backstraight, shocking. wd book..you must have laid plenty? |

Bolt get more money because of falsestart then if he won. Win 100 000$, falsestart was mathced 1 000 000$ on 1,02-1,04. Now you can see that Bolt after this falsestart became a millionare. :)
By:
bolt already a millionaire and wouldn't need to fix a world champs final to make a quid
By:
when they had more chances people would still false start after the first one, and some would false start the first one on purpose to unsettle the field. So you can't win with these things.
By:
Not ideal but it's the best format imo, no need to false start, especially Bolt
By:
But Bolt prefered to have else 5 miillons to 100 000$ for a winner. ;) 100% fixed.
By:
it's the rule now, but I don't think it's a good rule to dq after 1 false start, thought this from hte time of the rule change on.
By:
STUPID FECKING RULE IMO!!!
We have now lost both Ohuruogu and Bolt and Chambers to this stupid rule. Pathetic. One mistake and thats you done and dusted. I've never seen anything so stupid in all my life. |
By:
It's a good rule. When they had the two false start rule you would be guarunteed to have about 3 false starts as people would try and guess for the gun knowning they had no real downside. They either got lucky and got a super start or they got another free go. 1 start is the best way as it forces everyone to wait for the gun. Surprising Bolt false started though, never seen it before.
Amazing effort by Mo too, all the guys hating on him need to back off. He's had a fantastic season and unfortunately came up against a guy who was slightly better on the day but getting a medal in a world class distance race is one of the toughest things in sport with the African countries dominance. I really hope he comes back and runs the 5k, he has quite a long recovery before the final and if he could grab another medal it will be a really amazing end to an already amazing year for him. |

As an ex middle distance athlete, I was always sick of watching sprinters do several false starts and when the rule change came in I supported it, but having seen Chambers (whether you like the guy or not) dqd for moving his shoulder one inch, I am now totally opposed to it. If you leave the blocks before the gun, fair enough, but just a small movement is very hard to avoid in the tense situation of a big race. I also find it strange that the starters keep them in set position for ages the first time but fire the gun very quickly the seond time. It is making a laughing stock of a once great sport.
By:
And having seen Chambers DSQ for that, Blake was one lucky man in the final. Replays show that on closer inspection you can see very clearly Blake flinching his left leg, almost immediately Bolt reacts to this and leaves the blocks. Its already circulating the athletics world like wildfire. Michael Johnson also supports this, and in my own personal opinion subconsciously or not it clearly made Bolt shoot his load. Channel 4 are currently discussing this in great depth...
By:
Blake rolled in blocks marginally, but maintained pressure. Bolt could have got a 0.2 reaction time and ran 9.91 and won. But its a stupid rule. 1 for the field and sudden death is fairer. Problem is compounded by inconsistency on "the hold" by the starter.

By:
Chambers false started because he knew he had to get out perfectly to stand any chance of making the final. He was nervous and fecked up.
Bolt wanted to make a statement that by running a 9.6/9.7 it didn't matter Gay and Powell weren't there and he was No. 1. He knew he had to get out quick and was nervous etc... People want to see fast times though and nobody will have the gumption to guess the gun and go for it unless there is the leeway of one false start for the field. |
