Womens marathon - odds have been gradually appearing over course of the afternoon and I have had two bets. One thing I will say - only back at books offering the 3 places - those offering just 2 are a joke with such an open event.
Yoshimi Ozaki is number one on my list - she made her marathon debut in 2008 finishing 2nd in the Spring and then won the Tokyo marathon in the autumn. In 2009 her training was interrupted so she only ran the one marathon and was 2nd in the World Championships in Berlin. Last year was a poor year but this year she has won the Yokahama marathon in a course record time. Kiplagat is a solid favourite but Ozaki is well woth an e/e bet. I managed to get £50 e/w at 20/1 1/5 3 so shop around. Second up for me is Irene Kosgei despite her being one of the slower runners in the field. The main thing is that she can win marathons in warm conditions and it will be warm and humid tomorrow. She won in Singapore and crucially the Commonwealth Games marathon in New Delhi last year. She ran the course in the Daeju marathon earlier this year and was 5th but complained it was a bit cold. £25 e/w 33/1 1/5 3 |

PS 18/1 and 33/1 respectively at centrebet - sadly win only

@the muppet moans
Here we go, not only a golf expert, but also athletics. Is this for real, or you invigorating the markets? Please don't get upset by that question, there are some ruthless types on here, and well written posts do attract some interest from what I've discovered. I personally would never use my writing skills and knowledge to herd traffic my way, been raised as an honest lad, thanks. Cheers, SP |

Daegu weather for the women's marathon event (starting in about four hours):
Scattered clouds, mostly cloudy, warming up from 23-24 degrees celsius currently, to a top of 28, with 88% humidity already (although it feels like the temperature is) and with the forecast for thunderstorms expected later, humidity will remain remain. Wind marginal. In conclusion, the weather conditions will be warming up and given the high humidity, and that fact these girls will be running for over 2 hours, I would regard the on-course conditions to be warm, and therefore a factor. How significant, and whether it'll benefit one runner over another is open to interpretation. Certainly a runner who enjoys running in warm to hot weather will find the appropriate conditions, today. Cheers, SP |

SwingingPick - I feel like I have a stalker. Those who know me well know I concentrate on golf but cannot resist the occasional athletics bet where I love the marathon - it's a mental game much like golf. Have had a few really good results over the years including Ndereba - big punt in this 4 years ago and got Meb in NY at 100 a couple years back

rob de castella brings back memories of a nice punt
good luck tmp |

@the muppet moans
Nope, not stalking, mate. My Vuelta thread is on the same page on this forum, and discovering that the champs will be live on a local network, thought I'd pop in. And there you were with one of your great write-ups. Thanks for explaining your interest, I've been following the athletics for a while also, on and off, though. Love it, especially the mens long distance events, I guess it's like cycling in a way, and agree with you that it's a mental game. Much more physically intensive than golf, obviously. @redbag Was too young to bet in those days but I was a fan of Rob, although Monnas is an absolute legend in my book from when I first watched him in Atlanta. Cheers SP |

Sally Pearson 100m Hurdles. Allyson Felix 400m Carmelita Jeter 100m Kirani James 400m Pays around 22s. Same again with Kaliese Spencer 400m hurdles thrown in, pays around 40s. |

Have been following athletics not as close as I used in previous years, missed T. Dibaba in the starting list of women's 10k, and Ethiopians not favs, how comes this?
|
|
By:
Right.
WTF is this doing on Channel 4? I will miss Brendan Foster mumbling his way through the 10,000m and complaining of the decline in British middle distnce running. Good luck to all and enjoy, the WC athletics and Olympics athletics are the only two sports that get me more interested than the gee-gees! |
|
By:
aye no Brendan Foster or Michael Johnson

Mo Farah v Bekele and no Cram and Foster to go nuts over it. Shocking imho

Women's marathon:
Just started, one girl already out the back, another one joining her. Ugly place this Daegu, big boulevard roads, though. Doesn't look overly hot. This Ozaki girl from Japan is looking good and comfortable early, only a small girl but keeping to the front and she's just tapping away in that small but suitable style of hers. Pace going up at the 5km mark. First questions being asked, very flat course. Cheers, SP |
|
By:
ah good news. I bet they havent nabbed Sue Barker, Colin Jackson or Denise Lewis mind, well I hope not anyway.
Rob Walker in the commentary booth an excellent choice. Love his enthusiasm. |

Women's marathon:
Chasing group formed as some didn't have the answers. This entire Japanese team looks formidable as they raise the pace, whilst some of these other girls look all over the shop, tbh. Kiplagat, the favourite, buying her time at the rear like a very cool customer. Wouldn't want to be laying her at all. 10km mark, pace is on, Ethiopians putting in a show at the front. Cheers, SP |
|
By:
Women's marathon:
Nojiri is laying it on. Looks like a pace-making strategy to dictate terms and assist her Japanese team mates, like a half-marathon pace. 15km mark, smaller elite group as expected. No Korean will win as they're nursing each other along, shame on home soil. Cheers, SP |
|
By:
Women's marathon:
Elite group splitting up and bunching back together, still early days. Nojiri feeling the pinch you'd think given the kind of work she put in. ...Want to watch the marathon but the broadcaster is going into the stadium with heats, doesn't seem like anyone is even reading this. Cheers, SP |

why isnt bolty 1.01??

Why the fook is Dean Macey commentating...................had 1 or 2 good meets about 10 years ago, rest of time a fookin cripple being supported by lottery money.
Sponger imo |

Have laid the tiddley winks................no stamina imo

Women's marathon:
All well and good to look for value in an open field, but title of fastest runner in the field serves Kiplagat backers well. Even after falling she kicks it in with absolute ease. First gold medal of the champs allows me to finish in green on the event. Solid performance all around. Cheers, SP |
|
By:
i think the camerawork will meet with betfairians' approval

By:
Dean Macey is a legend. My fave athlete of all time.
Along with Kathy Cook the most unlucky British Athlete of the last 30 years...but for different reasons. |
|
By:
There are some juicy prices on offer in the mens 1500m. Laalou and Kiprop are huge prices. Kiplagat is rightly the fav Kiprop is the Olympic Champ and Laalou has looked awesome in his 2 1500m races this year.

How bad is the main presenter on Channel 4? Not sure I can put up with the feeling I am watching Newsround for an entire week (even if the great Michael Johnson is part of the team)
|
|
By:
Spot on Rod. He's all over the place. Cringeworthy. |
|
By:
yeah the presenter has been very poor, , nervous, stuttering, constantly looking down at his notes, got a fair few names wrong also..
|
|
By:
ive watched 10 mins and had enough already..johnson must be wondering whats happening to him
|
|

Guys, if you're sick of C4 already go over to Eurosport. Go http://mypremium.tv/ and then British Eurosport. Stream 3 is a HD service and they have much better coverage than that bumbling fool on C4.

ohorugu
in a heat lol |
|
By:
Ohurugu false started on purpose IMO, she knew she would be outclassed and made to look ordinary, she was beaten out of sight at Crystal Palace, she is not ready and knew it, disgraceful![>o]
|
|
By:
They've got probably the best analyst on athletics and this guy is asking him banal questions about the false start...
|
|
By:
The presenter with Michael Johnson is useless, he knows nothing about Athletics, much better with Jackson and Edwards!
