My early thoughts are a northener but someone with experience too. Taking over now is a very different challenge from taking over at the start of the season. Relegation would be catastrophic and they can't take a chance with someone like Ferguson. Significant former players are Owen Coyle and Peter Reid. I'd love to see the new rules tested too though and the new man have 9 games in charge. :D |

Looking at the Bolton forums, it appears only Mark Hughes is acceptable to them. No support for Jewell, Southgate or Reid. They'd like Coyle but think it's unlikely he'd leave Burnley for them.
Curbishley and Coppell don't seem to be too disliked but, at the same time, no real support for them. I expect if Mark Hughes wants it then it's his. Jewell was at the game last night but was sat next to Moyes and Martinez and probably just a coincidence. After the uproar over the manner of the Mancini appointment then I'm sure Bolton wouldn't have their next manager at the game. |

I suspect Megson's comments after the game hastened his departure. Not the most politically astute observation to make for someone wanting to hold onto his job.

The team really has nowheres to go but up at the moment and whoever is taking over needs to gear themselves up for a relegation dogfight of the first order. Bolton are an established Premiership side and it will be a serious blow to their small, but extremely dedicated, cadre of fans should they drop down through the Premier League's trap door. The betting markets have heated up already and punters everywhere are clamoring to get their bets in on the next Bolton manager. If you act now, there is a massive amount of value available should you be able to select the next Bolton manager. As it currently stands, former Wigan favourite Paul Jewell is emerging as the favourite with recently-sacked Mark Hughes nipping at his heels. As funny an image as that sounds, it really looks to be a two-horse race at the moment although Alan Curbishly and Darren Ferguson are also trading at relatively low-prices. You'll find Jewell and Hughes trading below 7.0 and around 6.5 or 6.0. The odds are really fluctuating hard at the moment and Jewell has been spotted below 6.0 at times. Curbishly trades at 8.5 to 9.0, while Ferguson is listed at 8.0 to 8.5. I would advise you not to discount Peter Reid, who seems to be gaining a bit of steam and you'll find him below 7.0. Owen Coyle also trades at 16.0. Gareth Southgate is listed at 21.0. Personally, I think very little information has come out about who is in frame. Once that happens, and a credible source backs a solid contender, then the odds will start dropping significantly. The time is now to bet on the next Bolton manager! |

I'm going to be limited in my posting ability in the next few days so I'll put a few thoughts up.
Like Middlesbrough Bolton have been affected by the falling crowds. Gartside has gone down the "safe" and experimental road recently with Megson and Sammy Lee, both of whom were failures. I think he has to go for a bit of glamour here but somone with experience. I can see the fans liking Coyle and Hughes but very few of the others on the list. If he sacked Megson partly due to his comments about the fans then surely the next appointment will be one which will firmly get them back onside. On that basis Reid and Jewell are firm lays at current prices. After all would Reid be a candidate if he was still manager of Thailand. They have to stay up but they have a better chance of doing that with the fans onside. |

I will miss you Ernesto and I am unable to disagree with anything you have said. I figured Dowie would not fit the bill as a fans favorite so I have had all of him that was there.
Having seen the infamous Sunderland/Reid fly on the wall documentary it totally beats me on how Reid has ever been employed. But it would be irrational to swoop based on that. |

We have a temp manager as taking 10 games he will be deemed permanent on the rules on this market. I asked betfair if they would leave the market suspended or reopen in the event of a caretaker manager which could be important at a later date.

Coyle plays the integrity card Alex. He's be a busted flush if he walked out for a job down the road. I suspect he has his eyes on a bigger prize than Bolton. I can't see that walking out now into a bottom three club would do his career any favours.
Any Bolton legend like Coyle is going to attract money. I would expect John Sheridan to attract cash too when he arrives on the market. |

Just noticed the high st prices too. He was at the game last night sat with Moyes and Martinez. That would be too crass given recent events to have your next manager appear before the current one has been sacked. Hughes at least already know he was out.

Looks as if Jewell is coming back out to a more realistic price. I expect his price went so low owing to him being at the match. I took advantage of that but not as much as I should have done.
I expect this will be a fan-pleasing appointment, which should rule out Peter Reid. I don't think Hughes will take it (I wouldn't rule out him taking a job abroad a la Steve McClaren rather than take on another small club a la Sam Allardyce). Coppell and Curbishley would be accepted by the fans but Coppell's an odd 'un at times and even though Curbishley has said he'd go north, there's always doubt he will. Wide open at this stage, I don't think anybody has a clue. |
