In fact the 49ers are arguably worth a punt, now that we know that aren't going to regress from last year
Take the next 10 teams in the betting: Texans Patriots Packers Eagles Broncos (WTF!) Falcons Ravens Chargers Steelers Giants Which of those teams would you pick against the 49ers in any given week? I don't think I could pick any of those to beat the 49ers given what we have seen in the first 2 weeks. |

my book:
Pats +700 Packers +2.5k Texans +900 49ers + 400 Charges - level rest - -800 fairly happy with that for now. I still believe that after 16 games the ones to beat will be the Packers and the Patriots despite the blips. the Texans and the 49ers are obvious threats which is why they are onside. Personally i cannot have the 49ers above the Pats or Packers despite the results in the first 2 weeks. I would have the Texans in front of the 49ers to be honest. Too much has been read into the first 2 games imo |

Of the big 4 (49ers, Texans, Packers, Patriots) I only have the Patriots onside and if I could I'd take that back in a heartbeat. I still don't fancy the Packers or the Texans at current prices.
I have Patriots +550 Bears +650 Redskins +400 Chargers +350 Falcons +300 Steelers +300 Rest -175 The only team I'm truly scared of is the 49ers. Decided to take a stand against them at the start of the year and now just have to wait and see how the season develops. |

They were worth a punt before week 1 and again now...they added offence and kept that great D. Vernon davis looks even more unplayable

Niners are the best TEAM i've seen two weeks into the season and deserve to be favourites for me......only two weeks gone though.
That defence ![]() |
By:
i think the Texans are a better team myself but they are not as high profile as the 49ers
By:
better team based on what exactly? weakest division and 2 easy opening games?
By:
no
better D more weapons on the offense better QB better RB |
By:
you are a stubborn chap d13 lol think you had the niners 0-2...you will have to hold your hand up and say u goy this wrong......althoughh the best team in regular season prob comes up short
By:
better QB and D
![]() |
By:
14 games without a rushing TD bag load of turnovers best front 7 no contest
By:
I actually think the Texans have a better quarterback too..... but 49ers are a better team for me
By:
Got to say that the Niners look the real deal to me, we're only 2 weeks in and there'll be plenty of changes in the market to come but they don't have a real weakness to me.
I'm not sold on the Texans, impressive as they've been they'll have to implode massively to not win the South, the opposition in that div looks very poor, but they're not play off hardened for me and will get found out. I agree the Pack and Pats will go close but at the moment the pnly team I can back is the Niners.... |
By:
Well we all have our own fav players etc but you cant argue with alex smith in the playoffs and his qb rating...the run he is on also without throwing an interception...he is like a different player....schaub has proved nothing when it matters....he is average at best imo..not saying smith is some hall of fame player bit schaub has had good players around him for a while and done nothing...
By:
without doubt the weakest division is the south
By:
Texans were flying before Schaubs injury last year and their problem was never their offense it was their defence. They have that now.
I still think the Pack are the best team tbh but struggling with a couple of injuries. Packers Texans 49ers Pats That's my top 4 |
By:
Smith hasn't proven he can win....yet. That's why Pats / Steelers / Packers are still the teams to beat until proven otherwise. Been there, done it.
By:
...ok, perhaps not the Steelers but you take my point

Harry - Smith is like a throwback to a time when QBs were game managers.
The trend in the last 10 years has been Warner, Brady, Manning and Rodgers throwing 350 yards every week to win games, it wasn't that long ago when a team offensive co-ordinator would be looking to get as many yards on the ground as he would through the air and his QB would drop back no more than 25 times. I'm no Smith fan, I think he just ahppens to sit behind a great line and the Niners defence is solid especially against the run so they will never find themselves out of games, but you have to give him credit for what he's achieving.... |

steelers
I wouldnt rule out the superbowl champs...eli is clutch.agree d13 the texans were flying before schaub injury...same could be said about the bears last season but cutler is hardly a qb to be trusted....as for smith he never failed v the giants it was just one of them end to end xbox games where the last team to score was going to win..smith did what he needed to do...schaub yet to prove he can handle big games. I am not crowning the niners...regular season form only positions you for the playoffs...was very impressed with the packers D the other night...more of the same and they will be the team to beat again... |
By:
That is why i have doubts if the niners can win with smith....same with houston...just dont see a team winning with an average QB.
By:
The catch with the Packers D the other night is they were going up against the Bears O line which is putrid......will have to see that push on a regular basis for to fill me with confidence.....although was encouraged by the play of the secondary, Williams looks back to his former self.
By:
clay had a storming game v the bears...they had no answer
By:
we know its the year of the eagles
the only team who came close to stopping the pack 2 years ago![]() |

Off to a brilliant start....5 and half sacks already which really should be six.....hasn't been seeing consistent double teams this season.
By:
Has wes welker had a fall out with the patriots? hardly used on sunday
By:
With respect d13phe your top 4 are the 1st four in the betting not hard to pick.
Everybody seems to be getting carried away only 2 weeks gone plenty of twists to come yet. Giants,Ravens & even Saints look fair prices to me a lot can change in the next month or two. |
By:
With the pieces the Eagles have on defense it really should be elite this season.

Welker was probably on the way out of New England IMO. With the injury to Hernandez though he won't be going anywhere now.
By:
jennings back fit will be a big help as well
still their best WR by a mile finley is a bit of an enigma two pretty touch games for the Packers though and they will be satisfied with 1-1 with theie schedule. they peaked too early last year. |
By:
As strange as it might sound to some there is EVERY possibility that Greg Jennings is traded before the October deadline.
By:
Where did you hear that grayhawk?
By:
Well just about everyone thinks that this is Jennings last season in Green Bay because the Packers have too many core players coming up for contract renewal and it's not in Ted Thompsons mo to give contracts to 29 year olds notwithstanding he's your best receiever and he has paid an old man called Driver
.He has to pay his two most important players on the roster ( Rodgers and Matthews ) in the next two years as well as the likes of Raji and Finley..... With the size of contract Jennings will expect he just hasn't got the cap room to pay them all and he already has his replacement already on the roster in Cobb. The Packers feel that they missed out on adequate compensation when letting Aaron Kampman walk two seasons ago and maybe want to get full value for Jennings. I'll try and fish out the article which will explain it more. |
By:
By the way db1974....i shouldn't have made it seem as if they have officially said they are thinking of dealing Jennings....it was only one local beat writer saying what they should do.....all Packer backers for the Superbowl have just breathed a sigh of relief

Fair enough thanks. The Welker thing comes from an article I read on Grantland ( I think). When Moss was the main man in NE he played nearly every down. Then he stopped being put in on every play and got traded to the Vikes. Similar stuff to what's happening to Welker so far. Also Edelman has stepped up to the plate this year so far to some extent. He's no Welker obviously but he's certainly usable in the slot. IMO Welker won't be traded now anyway cos Hernandez is out for a good while.

By:
its all about Brandon Lloyd now that Josh McDaniels is at NE
they didnt even throw the ball to Gronk until they were 2 scores down and they nearly won |
By:
^ CRAZY...welker and gronk are the 2 you want lined up...I am only pissed off as welker is in my fantasy team

interesting weekend for the SB market
I cant have the Ravens close the Pats the Pats have a much easier division and schedule. Packers will be favourites again if they win tonight |
By:
I thought the Packers might be fav's again after tonight. I have backed Atlanta and Houston both SP. Atlanta on the spreads markets at 19-21 and Houston 8/1 e/w 4 places. I like the Packers schedule weakest in the NFL according to my calculations, the issue that would worry me about San Fran is the re-emergence of the division. They could be a wildcard team if things don't pan out divisional wise and I don't fancy them on the Road too many times during the play-offs.
The AFC for me is the much weaker of the conferences, strength in depth I have Baltimore, Patriots and Houston a country mile in front of everyone else. I think two from these three will be certainties for the 1 and 2 spots. Seeing both San Diego and Denver get spanked yesterday has only re-in-forced this view. |
