we are starting to get a better idea of the contenders now.
Big game for the 49ers tonights although Seahawks losing has given them room in that division now |

well, I backed the Jets last week at 100-1 after what I thought was a good showing against the Patriots. What the hell happened to them yesterday!!

Gotta say I'm impressed with the Bears as a unit this year - they had a team who were going well before injuries and felt robbed last year. Now their experienced defensive core are up for a super bowl challenge despite the teams limitations of Cutler who for Pete's sake isn't 'terrible'..... and they get turnovers.... I concede that they might just need a spark from somewhere to take them to the next level but with players looking on it as a last chance saloon they can just go for it.

By:
As a unit they look miles away but the defence is superb...offence..what offence???

NYG again. Big plays, big balls. Still have the scope to get much better too. Them or Chicago.

im amazed denver are 10.5 and baltimore and pittsburgh 23. seem a bit off to me. looks a big overreaction to denver winning a game. theyre ok, but they wouldnt be one of my favourites.

anyone fancy the pats? i was impressed last night

Some staggering prices around for me still. Atlanta move the ball very easily on Philly and still get no credit. Meanwhile, the market continues to have an all out love affair with New England despite having possibly the worst secondary in the NFL. Baltimore also look especially good value for mine, although Flacco does need to improve his consistency.
|
|
By:
Moaner, your post suggests that some teams are priced too short?
|
|
By:
The 49ers are back in the room.
6-2 and looking menacing. |
|
By:
I thought that of all the teams New England look too short and would be worried at the amount of points the Jets managed to score against them. I don't have them as certainties for a 1/2 seed by any means and that would mean a tough road trip at some stage.
Secondly agree with the point about Denver made by TRM, they are half the price of Pittsburgh and Baltimore one of which has a better record than they do. They clearly have a very weak schedule but this is more than factored into the price, they may need to win all but one of their remaining 9 games to be a number 1 or 2 seed from here. They are 11/1 on here when Baltimore with a better record are 25s. Green Bay weren't spectacular but have so many offensive weapons that are missing and have exactly the same record as New England albeit in a tougher NFC where the race for the 1/2 is more congested. At this moment they are a couple of points too big for me. |
|
By:
I think the Ravens price is a reflection of the fact that their defence has been badly hit by injuries as opposed to their current record. I would fancy the Steelers to win the AFC North.
I do agree that the Broncos are probably underpriced at < 10/1 but again, they will more than likely win the AFC West and have at least 1 home play-off game so the price reflects that. The AFC is a mess at the moment. Assuming that the North send the usual 2 suspects to the playoffs, the 2 teams tied for the 6th playoff spot (Dolphins & Colts at 4-3 each) have both been matched at 1000 for the Superbowl and TBH, it's hard to pick another team in the conference who you could say with any confidence that they will get that 6th spot ahead of those 2 |
|
By:
Can anyone explain why NYG have come into 9.4 from 12 last night?
Pittsburgh look horrendously too short for mine. 22 at 4-3 whilst Baltimore at 5-2 are 24? Even with losing a CB and Ray Lewis (who on performance terms is no loss) their Defense still is better than Pittsburgh's. Green Bay out to 11.5 based upon a sub par offensive performance without their top two WR, when their division competition both looked horrendous is another strange one for mine. Seems like Atlanta will stay in double figures even if they reach the SB. Ming - I wouldn't have NE in single figures. |

Dolphins the only AFC team undefeated in Oct, long time since that happened I would say

someones desperate to lay baltimore. ive just had a wedge on them at 29.0
next games cleveland away, oakland at home. not certs, but im hoping 2 wins will see them in good shape. pittsburgh have giants away (if they play) so if games go to plan the ravens will have a 2 game lead. 29.0 is pretty generous given theyre odds-on favourites to win the division and a top price 16/1 at the (proper) bookies. i dont fancy them in the slightest, but sometimes you gotta just play the prices. |
|
By:
I just can't have Baltimore (as I'm a steeler fan - for me it would be like backing Sheffield Wednesday but I don't blame you as a back to lay) but for some I can't have Atlanta either, so the the price on all the runners looks good when you take out Atlanta's percentage.
Hmmph, that said last year I couldn't have the giants, oh what joy those final results brought me ![]() |

49ers back to where they should be imo
|

By:
I saw the move on NYG and was really surprised. I thought they have played okay but just okay. Eli has got them out of some tight spaces and they seem to go to sleep for quarters on end. I would take Green Bay to turn the tables on them this year if they play. At the prices and having looked very carefully at the schedules both played and to play, I fancy GB to win nearly all their remaining games. Minnesota may have run their race, away to NYG will be tough but the rest they could win.
San Fransisco spanked an Arizona team that are in freefall and don't have an offence. To me they are too short considering how tight it is in the race for the NFC 1/2 spots. They do however have a soft schedule excluding an away trip to the Patriots. |
|
By:
Just have to back Packers at 10/1 here.
|
|
By:
thing with giants, patriots, steelers and packers is theyve all done it before. theyve got qb's whove done it before. that is always going to make them dangerous even if they dont get top seed. if houston or atlanta had tom brady, theyd be about 5.2 right now.
were in a situation where the teams that look the best right now, have qb's that have never proved they can do it when it really counts. especially true with alex smith. its hard to have much confidence he can nail down the big one, until he actually does it. even after the 9ers pretty much demolished the packers, and look the better team all round, if it came down to it...id still have my money on the packers. |
|
By:
I like the packers too which has been documented many times.
Texans have some big games in the back end. The Bears/Falcons/Texans are all sitting on nice records mainly because of their schedules and ability to keep everyone fit. This is always tested in the back end of the season. If i bet the Texans I would be worried about the beating the Pack put on them at home. That makes them too low imo. |

This thread started back in August with a bet on the Seahawks at 70 and that same team are now that exact same price, which IMO is a bit too big given that they must surely be favourites to get the 6th NFC playoff spot ahead of the Buccaneers and the Vikings at this stage.
The Seahawks have 4 home games left from the 7 remaining, this Sunday against the Jets and 3 divisional match-ups. They also travel to the Dolphins, Bills, & Bears, 2 of which are very winnable games. Given that they are currently 5-4 and looking at the games above, it's not asking a lot for them to finish at 10-6, with losses to the 49ers and Bears being forgiven. No reason why they cannot beat either or both of those teams anyway. Looking at the other NFC teams challenging for a playoff spot: NFC East - Giants are in control of this division with the other 3 teams on 3 wins (Eagles result tonight pending). With 8 divisional match-ups still left in the NFC East it's hard to see anyone other than the Giants finishing better than 9-7. Seahawks also hold a tie-breaker over the Cowboys if it comes to that. NFC North - It's not hard to see this division sending 2 teams to the playoffs, probably as 2nd & 5th seeds and it's going to be the Bears and Packers. The Vikings still have to play both the Packers and Bears twice as well as travelling to the Texans so I can't see them finishing any better than 8-8. The Lions do have 5 home games left from their 8 remaining but they are tough (Packers, Texans, Colts, Falcons, & Bears). Seahawks also hold a tie-breaker over the Vikings after yesterdays win. NFC South - Bucs are 4-4 here but have a very tough run-in with 2 games against the Falcons and trips to the Panthers, Broncos, & Saints from their last 8 games. They also have the Eagles at home and who knows what Eagles team will show up that day. Unless they stop conceding points they won't make the playoffs. The Saints will fall just short of a playoff spot IMO unless they get super-hot and blitz the rest of the season almost on momentum only. Their next 4 games are 3 at home (Eagles, Falcons, & 49ers) and a trip to Oakland. If they managed to win all 4 of those their next game is a trip to Falcons which would be very interesting. NFC West - 49ers should win this obviously barring a disaster. 2nd spot looks to be between Seahawks and Cardinals and the Seahawks have marginally the easier run-in as the Cardinals have just the 3 home games and trips to Seattle, San Fran and Atlanta in their schedule. |

Excellent write up db
agree regarding the Seahawks. It is likely they will go to the playoffs imo making the price too big. The NFC is going to be a very interesting/tough playoff picture though. I think one of Green Bay or the 49ers will end up with the number 2 seed. The Bears have a torrid run in from here starting with the Texans next week. It is starting to take shape now and I am pretty happy with my positions on the 49ers, Pats, Packers, Steelers and Ravens I have kept the Texans neutral for trading I dont think the Bears and the Falcons will be a factor personally and the Broncos look too short to me but could threaten. We are definitely getting to the business end. |
|
By:
something to note
The Texans, Falcons and the Bears have 4 wins between them out of 22 against teams with a winning record. there is also two losses between them all against who? yes you guessed it - the Packers. |
|
By:
d13 - agree. Packers favourites for me (I'm discounting the Oilers, ooops I mean Texans, and the Falcons - totally overhyped imho). SB will be one of Pats / Steelers v one of Packers / Giants imo. Still hoping for the hawks though ;-)

Disagree on Seattle. I'd make them 70 if they got the 6th spot. Likely road trips to NYG/SF, Atl and GB/Chi before they even get to the SB.
For mine, Atlanta's price is crazy. There is no way an 8-0 team should be double figures. They can only beat what is in front of them. May as well lay them however as the market hates them. Tend to think GB are too short as I'm not convinced by them and Chicago is playing excellent football, besides one Cutler meltdown but the market loves them so at 10.5 they are almost worth backing as they will go lower. In the AFC, NE look too short for mine. In comparison to Denver, they have a worse Offense and a worse Pass D. At 5-3, they are likely to win the Division but I'd make them the probable 3/4 seed. Baltimore represent the best value for mine in the AFC, however. On a playing front, Ray Lewis is little loss and Ladarius Webb can be covered so long as Jimmy Smith continues to develop. |

I am all over the Packers, I really believe they have gone through their rocky patch they have loads of players to come back and Rogers looks red-hot. That win against Houston really stands out against some volatile results in the NFC. I would make them an outside chance for the number 2 spot. I had San Fransisco as slight favs but really feel it will be down to 1 from 3 (San Fransisco, Chicago and Green Bay) I have Atlanta pencilled in for number 1 their schedule is not so tough and they have enough wins in the book to lose 2 games minimum and still recieve a bye.
I think in the play-offs no one will want to play GB and they would fancy their chances against either Chicago or Atlanta. I am on Atlanta also but with spreads so less worried about them facing each other. In the AFC the market love-in with the pats continues. On offence they look great but their D is bloody awful especially against the pass. When you get shredded by Mark Sanchez you have major issues. The only reason they are 7/1 on here is the been there done it but that applies to more than quarter back in that league. |
|
By:
another week and I think the Seahawks are coming into the reckoning.
Why are the Ravens and the Steelers so big though. does the market know that if they make it to the playoffs they will more or less have full teams and they are likely to have 7 wins each hafter the Steelers beat the chiefs tonight 49ers missed a big chance with the Falcs and the Bears slipping up Here come the Packers ![]() |
|
By:
Afc north not getting any respect...the ravens are always knocking on the door and the steelers are rolling right now..last nights game didnt tell us anything we didnt all know. Agree on the seahawks also, this lot claim they have the best defence, quite possibly.

Yeah got to agree the big winners of the weekend didn't even have to set foot on a football pitch. The packers must be licking their lips at how none of the rivals for the top seeding's managed a win. It looks to be 3 for 1 spot now that New York slipped up again and NYG have the toughest schedule of the lot. Green Bay to me have the easier run-in of the remaining teams and one of San Fran / Chicago will certainly have a worse record after the play each other next week.
Other than that Houston proved they have a good defence which we knew already and the Patriots again looked fortunate to beat a poor side. The market must eventually wake up to; 1. They are not going to be a 1 or 2 seed. 2. They have one of the worst passing D's in the league. They should be at least a point and half bigger |

I remember Harry22 tipped up the Packers Denver to me at massive prices several weeks back but I had work the next day and forgot to back them - they haven't lost since
but great shout Harry you must have a lovely free trade and fair play. d13phe also tipped up the packers who and thankfully I did back the Packers though at a good price so it might not all be lost.I have only watched American Football for a short while but I don't understand why the New England Patiots are always so short to win the superbowl. Fair enough they will win their division as it's week but they will have to step up properly to progress through the play-offs, i thought they were fortunate to even make the final last season. From what I have seen the Packers look the most likely winners. They seem to be hitting form at the right time and I was so impressed when they stepped up to properly school the Houston Texans which was the only time it's been done this season. I have also been impressed by the Steelers in recent weeks, I agree with others that they are well overpriced at 14/1. I have backed the Steelers as think they have a good shot this season. Personally I think the Giants will fall short this season, last season they were able to dig themselves out of holes on a regular basis but it just seems to my limited knowledge that they can't continually leave themselves relying on Eli to pull them out the fire in the last quarter in most games as a result I think it will eventually see them dumped out before the superbowl. My wild card pick is the Dallas Cowboys and had a bit on at 50/1. After everyone has picked themselves off the floor with laughter as i know I will get cained for this, but I honestly think they have a pretty easy run in and can see them finishing 6-1 which I think would leave them 10-6. The Giants have a tougher run in so the Cowboys could even raj the division but I concede that is doubtful and even if they finish 10-6 they still might fall short for the play offs given how tight it is. My prediction is if the Cowboys can somehow make the play-offs they will reach the Superbowl and then who knows. I have been very impressed with their defence in recent weeks and now people have basically written them off maybe Romo will loosen his arm with less pressure on him. I have backed the Packers, Steelers, Cowboys and will back Denver as I think they will drift out at some point. They aren't big stakes as i have very little knowledge to warrant proper bets and I stupidly believe in the Cowboys ![]() |

that patriots d was appalling ys'day, 35 1st downs (most ever allowed by the pats)nearly 500 yds and a fortunate win, speakes volumes when you have to score 38 points to be hanging on at the end. weather or not new acquisition aqib talib from tampa will be benificial time will tell,(he can play next week following suspension) but there price compared to pittsburgh and baltimore (who could both get in as divisional winner and wild card ) is based on reputation..

Welcome to the best game there is ![]() I liked your write up until you mentioned the Cowboys . Unfortunately I have been a long suffering Cowboys fan for a while.I like the Cowboys D but Romo has never been able to get it done in December and they are so far behind that I cant see him handling the pressure at all well. The one ray of light is that Jones is playing well and Murray is back soon but the Giants will still win that division imo. Eli knows how to get it done. That was indeed a great tip by Harry on the Broncos and they are currently a big red on my SB book which is making me slightly nervous. Agree about the Pats but they will only get shorter from here imo. I have kept them onside for this entire reason. |
|
By:
Yes it is a fascinating sport d13phe. I never used to understand the rules so I just basically forced myself to watch 2-3 matches about a year ago and slowly picked it up - now I think it's amazing!
The Romo factor! Yes i am also a mug for believing in them but I just think they are so close to having a quality team and they never look like getting hammered unlike some of the other teams who are fancied for the superbowl. They will probably fall short as you say but I just have a gut feeling they can somehow pull it off and thought at 50/1 i'm not going to lose much if i look silly. Sounds like I should have a bit on the Patiots to trade with as well. I wish I took the 33/1 + on the Broncos when Harry told me to but I have some good prices for the Packers when you both highlighted them so at least I have one powerhouse and I also quite fancy the Steelers and the Big Ben factor. |
|
By:
quite a few on here tipped the Steelers and I was sceptical at first but having watched their previous games I am not sure people appreciate how explosive that offense is and they have Mendenhall to come back.
Their D will always be good. Like the Ravens the D will look after itself despite injuries. I am at a loss why the Ravens are nearly treble the price of the Texans tbh. |
|
By:
Personally I don't fancy the ravens at all, think their price is actually short. Flacco I don't rate, the defence is just not as good as the Baltimore Myth is leading people to believe and I am hoping the Steelers and Big Ben can finish them off.
The Steelers and the packers are the team to be on but also I know the texans aren't not that fancied much on here but I think they are a good all round team who seem to believe in what they are doing and I would love to see them go all the way. The broncos are a big red for me too d13phe and yes they do have me worried too but I don't think that are that good either. Manning without doubt is the man but I don't think that is enough to bring them all the way. Anyhow I will leave them be and suck it up if they do win it Either way it's going to be a cracking run in and I am like a kid in a candy shop, just can't wait for each weeks action to start![]() |
|
By:
I think the Texans are almost identical to the Ravens
that would be a pick em game for me home or away in the playoffs. would fancy the Steelers over both of them though tbh |
|
By:
Fallen angel I am not sure I can agree that the texans proved they have a great D...a good D yes...They weren't facing much in terms of an offence and the weather made it easier on both Ds....The packers put up 40+ on the texans on the road...the bears offence is their defence.
You must have missed the steelers tip up also at big price SWAGGER ..also have to admit to having a few quid on the cowboys but they have halved also...been some cracking value on some of the teams over the last 4 weeks...still big red on houston and chicago but plenty of time to put that right.Wide open championship |

Dlarssonf...Hard to touch the broncos at the current price..
