Hi everyone

It appears the consensus that the CALLING HAYDEN thread should be preserved but with a new title for this season so as to attract some fresh views as well as retaining the old ones , so here we go and let's hope we surpass the near 8000 posts on the old thread with some more good sensible friendly views and opinions.

Inevitably the old thread will drop off but some of you may want to revisit for whatever reason , so if required just use the link below and click CALLING HAYDEN to view the entire thread.

Next it may be an idea to remind of the links we used for match previews / news etc for reference.

Also nice to have the potential links at hand that worked well for us last year.

Hope all the familiar names return with their contribution again this season and would be nice to see a few new names express views , the regular season doesn't start until the 1st October but there are some tasty pre-season and exhibition matches starting today , 7 matches in all including Bruins @ Rangers.

Good luck for the season ahead.

Two more canadian sites. Both will probably have the same news as TSN but CBC and Sportsnet are the other two networks here that televise games.

Excellent Hayden...

Pat LaForge said on Team 1260 that the pre season games were only available for people in Alberta .... Is that possible???
By:
Hayden
When: 16 Sep 09 00:18
quite probable if you're talking about TV coverage as here's nothing scheduled for ESPN America until the 4th October , plenty online though and i've been watching the Bruins @ Rangers on atdhe since midnight ( Boston 2-1 up with 5 mins left ) and most of the other games are also available on streams.

Its okay its on and we are hammering them (2-0) in this really important koff pre season game :)

2 scraps in the first period also

Finger, the guy from 1260 is right. Within Canada, that game could only be viewed on sportsnet west (Alberta).

welcome back Shapes , hope you will become a regular poster again , I see you're still trying to educate IQMJ on the general forum and that's commendable indeed.

Actually, HAYDEN, using his thread to educate others ;)

I'm still learning and working constantly to focus on value. Makes betting alot more satisfying since I was never a "quick** person.

morning guys

anyone looking for a bet on the pre-season matches may be struggling to find any odds on offer , expekt are the only ones that appear to be offering and if you join there is a free bet offer as well , don't imagine betfair will mind the advertising as they're not offering markets themselves , the company look ok as they're part of the best betting affiliate.

01:00 Buffalo Sabres - Washington Capitals 2.30 4.00 2.30 +1

If anyone is serious about these game check lineups first, however, NYI are playing their third game in four nights (albeit without that much travel) and the Panthers are playing their third in three nights.

good point made benrik , watched a few to date but not empted to get involved as yet , was thinking about the opening pair of games to start the season and it's difficult to know which one to view tbh , normally would be easy as Caps @ Bruins is always interesting but the Habs in Toronto could be a belter now especially if as expected Kessel will be making his debut.

Hayden did you see hit the NYI player took in their game with the flames? :0

On another note, I just bought NHL10 on PS3, just been drafted by the Rangers, but they weren't happy with me so sent me to some AHL side :D What are turnovers by the way? I know I could google it, but where's the fun in that? :p
By:

yes just watched on youtube , still suffering from concussion as well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riN8XVHDeSA

wouldn't be much worse than the majority from this clip though tbf , just that the outcome looks bad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQZSrj4EoE0

spotted the NHL10 on amazon for £40 and must say I was tempted.

think turnovers is as it says on the tin tbh and simply put just losing possession either by an error or created by the opposition , general feeling is that the last man can't lose the puck and if you lose it in the neutral zone then with any consistency then it's a game loser ( bit like Wings in the final last year ) , some teams are a lot more adept in creating turnovers than others though and that's one element that seperates the top teams.

I've watched 3 or 4 mate and tbh they've been well contested with some big hits , Leaf's seem to be the ones hitting the straps early and the place seems buzzing at the moment , imagine if they sign Kessel and he plays in the opener against Montreal.

Been watching some games using the browser on the ps3.... Dion P is a cheap shot artist and you could see him targetting the guy coming through the middle. He wont drop the gloves either what a pu55y... imo :)

Will you be having an Ante post bet for this years winner Hayden?
By:
Hayden
When: 22 Sep 09 16:48
yes probably mate , give you a shout when placing , it's good to have a long term interest as long as it never affects your match bets , the stakes for double figures ante post are so relatively small in comparison any losses are an irrelevance over a season tbh
By:
They All Forgot Me
When: 23 Sep 09 12:08
My bets for the year for the Stanley Cup are
Chicago 10/1 (goaltending issues early doors but should get stronger later into the season, young improving team, might get a better price a couple of months in maybe if you want to risk it)
Washington 14/1 (plenty of firepower and should be in the mix again)
Philadelphia 16/1 (strengthened the defence which was the main weakness last term, should continue to produce offensively)
Vancouver 20/1 (strong finish to last term, hopefully they can keep it going into this season)
By:
They All Forgot Me
When: 23 Sep 09 12:09
Noticed last year though they tend to fluctuate quite alot as season goes on so no harm in waiting if you're unsure, unless your team gets an aboslute flyer that is, not sure they are the ones to be one in the long term though...Penguins had a very slow start to last year early doors.
By:
Hayden
When: 23 Sep 09 13:08
agree Hawks can only improve on last year you would think , whether the price is value is another debate but suspect 10/1 is more than fair , ante post betting on this event can be frustrating in that however the regular season pans out the play-offs are a different animal and form to a large degree goes out of the window together with home ice and any advantage gained by a great regular season record , play offs is a leveller and depends largely on the big stars standing up the task wheras the regular season is full of tactical reasons to dodge certain games for more important ( maybe divisional ) games just around the corner and that's were the punting edges exist.

btw welcome TAFM as don't remember you posting on the old thread , apologies if you did.

I'm liking the Sharks this year.
By:
Benrik
When: 23 Sep 09 13:41
The problem with the Sharks is that they choke and they've lost Michalek, Cheechoo, Erhoff and Lukowich. Albeit they did bring in Heatley who will probably thrive in that environment.

Watched the 1st period of Pens-Leafs last night, was suprised to see Leafs managed to comeback from 2 down, Pens looked comfortable enough, though they were without Crosby and Malkin.

have noticed how Leaf's have hit the straps early tbh mate and the signing of Kessel for 27 million over 5 years is a real boost for them and understandably the place must be buzzing at the moment ( although he'll miss the 1st 4 weeks of season ) think the main significance betting wise will be to avoid unders in their games early on and see what the strategy looks like , they are likely to change tactically and build around Kessel's firepower I think and maybe involved in lots of high scoring matches.

When: 23 Sep 09 22:01
Hi Haydn, yes noticed last year the playoff form was totally different to the regular season, with the likes of Carolina beating Boston and Anaheim also playing much better than they did in the actual league itself.
By:
Hayden
When: 25 Sep 09 10:55
Just looked at the opening TV schedule , ESPN start with a live double header with Habs @ Leaf's followed by Avalanche @ Sharks , good opening game choice imo covering the Leaf's match over the Bruins with all that's going on in Toronto.
