Been there workrider and even with a winner its a money pit .
If we were pinhooking for the breezeups or a foal to bring back in a year or the like I might be interested. But certainly wouldn't be bothered putting one in training again. |
By:
Although I landed on my head this evening off one so I'm reserving the option of reversing that decision tomorrow in case I brained my damage

im pumping any few pence i have into the wexford youths wonks im an nr

By:
What will you call it? , willywonka?
By:
Wasn't expecting a massive yes vote anyway , been a owner myself Olddesperado so know where you are coming from ,just thought a years fun was to be had thats all , mightn't even get to the track when all is said and done ,never mind.Toby, Wexford played well enough against us on Monday, they just might stay up you know...

Wonks id say the best thing you can do is take a trip down to master trainer Philip Rothwell and try to purchase any horse in his stable with any sort of form. Tell him you will keep it in the stable blah blah blah. Let him run it once and arrive the next morning with the horse box. Guaranteed to win 5 on the bounce.
By:
been there 6 times without a placed horse.6th one was supposed to be a horse called wandering thoughts but sale fell through sadly.dont think ill venture again..im a magpie !!
By:
Where do we send the wonga wonka?
By:
My percentage was "Slowly away and always behind, broke leg 1f out, dead". I wasn't told it was running.
workrider I'm in if this is a goer. |
By:
We'll see how it pans out lads , if we get a few more interested it could be the start of something big! check your passports are in date...
![]() |
By:
... The Breeders Cup no doubt!
By:
Your passport in order then.

what budget range and type ;; sprinter late maturing etc
buy to sell or race on and most important what trainer, in principle i am interested |
By:
We'd have a budget of 12,000 so to allow for a couple of months training fees, gallop fees on Curragh etc ,I like to buy a sharp type , in the 7,000 bracket, no point of late maturing sort, no fun in that .Keep it for the year then if all goes well we'll sell and become millionaires
. I'll have a word with Johnny Murtagh or Mick Halford re training . Expecting the catalouge anytime from Tatts..... |
By:
The "catalogue" in Excel format is incomplete. They only show the damsire of 58 of 533 lots. Unprofessional.
By:
Waiting on the booklet catalouge to arrive on my doormat . The damside is most important imo. I believe that 75% of a horse comes from the dam...
By:
owning a horse with some of u guys would require a full time therapist to be on hand 24 hours a day........ye would argue with the wall holding up your houses
By:
But it would be FUN....
![]() |
By:
Just recieved the catalouge this minute ,amazing the way this sale has progressed over the recent past , a quick glance at the first 4 in the sale and the amount of black type on the damside is startling, I remember having seen many a horse at this sale without ANY black type in the pedigree .Some studying to be done .
By:
I analysed the Goresbridge breeze-up catalogue a few months ago.
Black type in catalogues is misleading imo. I prefer ratings. That sale had little of interest but they still had six figure sales. |
By:
I'm interested.
Michael OCallaghan is a young man with a good eye,you could get him to buy and train this potential flying machine. I'd probably be alone in not ever owning a horse so stuff like colours should be left to Workrider. My idea would be lob two grand in and treat it as dead,if the miracle happens we could emulate my gambling by reinvesting til its all gone. |
By:
Can you register Shít Stirrer as a name? It would reflect the forum tone.
By:
I can just see it now....the Rover's hoops being carried to victory at the Dubai carnival on board a beast called 'Mussie Repellent' ......and co-owner Borneo in full embrace with the Sheikhs in the winners enclosure

Good man Ozy,you never fail , think you should have a look at that thread you started yesterday ,I'm sure you'll find it will remind you of yourself , Pa spot on once again...
By:
Kincsem, ratings are only a therory imo , black type means you've DONE it ...How many highly rated horses fail to come up to their potential year after year ,but let us not divert from the thread , in this case opinions are welcome...
By:
Wildmanfromborneo, I spoke to MOC at both Leop and the Curragh recenty saying as much to him, I like the type of 2yo he buys, seems like a nice youngman indeed...
By:
I am told that Fallon is the reason behind the noticeable change in training methods this season. Horses are improving for runs instead of going backwards.
Wonks why buy some unbroken crooked legged donkey when our friend Philip has any amount of them down in Wicklow. I will even come onboard myself if you manage to get one out of his stable. |
By:
We could rename it Wonky Donkey
By:
. Maybe at a later stage we could try that ploy BWS... |
By:
poor ozy, lowering the tone once again just to get noticed.id be interested tbh.ive been involved in ownership before and like wmfb says stick your initial investment in and write it off basically.
By:
im interested also although i have to admit money is the worry i have one already,so it would have to be cheap?
By:
workrider
You might put up a list of people who have expressed interest to see how many you have. I think you need about twelve paying purchase price up front, and then more for monthly maintenance. A yearling might never become a worthwhile training prospect so people will have to accept that possibility. |
By:
From recollection a bet between two forumites has rarely been organised successfully...I did have one with a guy on the Rugby Forum, a guy called Fresh or Freshman, May 28th 2011, it was. 500 quid..I lost....I hardly need reassure you, gentlemen, that the debt was swiftly settled.
Anyway, good luck, getting this venture off the ground, I will be very impressed if it comes to fruition. |
By:
Is Michael O'Callaghan any relation to Noel O'Callaghan out of interest?
I hope he realises what he has in store for him should he take this syndicate on board as new Owners ![]() And that's even before Qatar Racing get wind of the pre-dispositions of the Yards new Owners towards their religion ![]() Oh boy! |
By:
Surely there must be something going on in Laois Ozy , you have become boring and repetitive , a little like your pyscological thread dont you think ,maybe its time you took a walk along Mountmellicks main street to cool off...
By:
Mountmellick
Someone has been winding you up about Laois btw! Or you got the wrong end of the stick.Don't worry, I wont be whistle blowing on you with Michael.. I wish you all the best with him. And I am sure you will warm to the Qatar boys once you get to know them ![]() |
By:
poor ozy, hates to see others getting along and talking about a possibly exciting venture.i must add that i would want no part if he was in any way involved.
By:
Okay lads ,hopefully Ozy has run his course , getting down to business I spent a considerable amount of time working on looking up Sires that would be affordable , had a look at the following , Bated Breath (10) Born To Sea (14) Choisir (8)
Clodovil (10) Dark Angel (5) Famous Name (5) so far . There are many others on the list ,so if anyone has a catolouge available to them and would be willing to help please pm me thanks... |
