Say maybe we club together 1200 a man and 160 a month  , we could buy something for around 6/7ooogns and have a bit of a laugh for a year. Only a idea as I said...I know a few good trainers who would look after us , and who knows we just might hit the jackpot...Any thoughts...

what budget range and type ;; sprinter late maturing etc
buy to sell or race on
and most important what trainer, in principle i am interested
Report workrider August 17, 2016 5:18 PM BST
We'd have a budget of 12,000 so to allow for a couple of months training fees, gallop fees on Curragh etc ,I like to buy a sharp type , in the 7,000 bracket, no point of late maturing sort, no fun in that .Keep it for the year then if all goes well we'll sell and become millionaires Laugh. I'll have a word with Johnny Murtagh or Mick Halford re training . Expecting the catalouge anytime from Tatts.....

Report workrider August 18, 2016 10:43 AM BST
Just recieved the catalouge this minute ,amazing the way this sale has progressed over the recent past , a quick glance at the first 4 in the sale and the amount of black type on the damside is startling, I remember having seen many a horse at this sale without ANY black type in the pedigree .Some studying to be done .
Report kincsem August 18, 2016 11:34 AM BST
I analysed the Goresbridge breeze-up catalogue a few months ago.
Black type in catalogues is misleading imo.  I prefer ratings.
That sale had little of interest but they still had six figure sales.
Report wildmanfromborneo August 18, 2016 12:12 PM BST
I'm interested.

Michael OCallaghan is a young man with a good eye,you could get him to buy and train this potential flying machine.

I'd probably be alone in not ever owning a horse so stuff like colours should be left to Workrider.
My idea would be lob two grand in and treat it as dead,if the miracle happens we could emulate my gambling by reinvesting til its all gone.

You might put up a list of people who have expressed interest to see how many you have.
I think you need about twelve paying purchase price up front, and then more for monthly maintenance.
A yearling might never become a worthwhile training prospect so people will have to accept that possibility.

good research Workrider
Dark Angel would hardly be buyable at your price range as his covering fee that year was 27500
Choisir Clodovil and Capt Rio are all good solid stallions
7k budget turns into 8k after commission and vat.
take an average of 1500 per month training fees (incl vets and farriers) by next April our steed is now standing at least 18k then the sun starts we name him and register him with HRI
by the time we run mid may we are upto 22-23k
so i suggest we all put in 2k upfront to cover until Ptown approx by which time we will have an idea where we are .
as regards trainers i am very easy but maybe a cheap yearling in O Callaghans would be lost
best of luck and keep us posted

As stated above your getting into double money before it hits the track,

Why not consider my suggestion and pinhook .

Like some of the guys say treat the initial investement as dead but this way theres minimal further outlay with a good chance of a return.

Im not sure about anyone else but i,d get almost as much satisfaction watching its career afterwards with very little risk other than a fatality or similar.
Report workrider August 20, 2016 10:46 AM BST
olddesperado, the whole point is having a bit of fun with it, sure the pinhooker thing might work , then again what if its lead out unsold!. Pinhooking is not as easy as it seems , I think you are forgetting the cost as well ,to get one to the sales costs money , so your outlay is increased .
