Joseph 6/1 to be Top Irish Jockey.

Surely that is too big if he is top Jockey for the yard!

PF, dead right. I was told O'Brien works back from Royal Ascot and everything in between is designed to be at cherry peak in June.

Similar for other targets. SNA, possibly the Coronation at Epsom.

Very lucky against the Mare last year Soapp. Can't think he get a race handed to him like that this year at Epsom.

Remember the head carrage. Shocked

SNA is a bit if a thief but it was a shocking ride in Monday. They know it, we know it and the man on the moon knows it.

He's still a very good rider though.

Am I the only one that thinks he was very lucky that the gaps opened for him on Camelot. If he is not on a steering job he is fairly average. I will make a prediction " Its all going to end in tears". Actually he will be replaced before the end of the season.

Big 2 days for Joseph. 3 big rides in 3 Group races. All at the top of the betting.

Has he ever rode York before??

Has the talent without a doubt and with this year (and APOB Happy) behind him he'll be top dog for a few seasons if he can control the weight.

The Curragh ride on SNA not his finest hour alright but he normally keeps his mounts near enough to the pace ala MJK who was great at doing that and was one of the main reasons Frank lost the job as he had to continually pass the whole field to win his races.

In two years time HRI incorporating the Turf Club will probably have upped the minimum weight for maidens and conditions racing to 10st and by the tme Joseph is 30 it'll probably have been raised to 10st7lb, which will open the door for all the national hunt jockeys to try their hand at the flat racing game.

He went too fast,it was ridden like a pacemaker. I doubt Magnier will allow this to continue much longer. To allow a jockey to ride overweight in a Group race is totally unprofessional and the mindset of team Coolmore has to be questioned.

The horse won a Dundalk maiden and was either sick today or nowhere good enough,he was no more than 3 or 4 lengths ahead at most in the race and travelled well for about 5 furlongs and yet finished tailed off.

He knows Epsom alot better than Mikael Barzalona knew it at this stage last year so unless he has a complete wobbler you would expect him to be comfortable enough with the track. Saying that, O'Brien is effectively still an amateur riding in these top races, can't understand why O'Donoghue doesn't get a greater volume of rides in these races myself

I'm with The Gotchee on this, I think that maybe they are pushing the young lad, to do too much too soon, and I certainly will be swerving  Camelot if they stick with JP, when Ryan Moore could be sitting in the weighroom as stouty hasn't a bean at the moment. I think moore could be on Camelot yet. the Greatest race ever for jocking off as Scobie learnt Wink

I'd like to pose a question to you Irish lads ... Like every other jockey, Joseph is human, and every now and again he's bound to give a horse a bad ride ... but if thats the case, and Messrs Magnier et al did lose patience with him, could it cause a potential rift at Ballydoyle between APOB and the Coolemore team,IF he had to replace Joseph with someone else,or would Aiden be able to detach himself emotionally from the fact that Josepf is is son?

Just read an AP O'B story there in one of the papers in the betting office and complete rubbish, as Gary Neville say's unbelievabll, come on AP suir he's your son but to suggest that, your actually becoming laughable, a joke I just hope this wont all end in tears,
Joseph got no instructions, you just left him out to ride the race his own way SurprisedLaugh as the one time Taoiseach Albert Reynolds said "thats crap" grow up AP.............. please

Franky

I can assure you that Joseph would not be AOB Jockey if John Magnier had any doubts. No doubt in my mind, also as Ballydoyle is actually owned by Magnier and his wife and given to Aidan to reside with his family means that everything everything about this situation has been vetted by himself and decided.

Now there can be no doubt if Joseph rides like a dog for the rest of the year, questions will be asked but he has already won the 2000 Guineas with a Son of Montjeu, never done before.

Despite what the rest of the posters say on here, he does not care about gambling or in fact maidens. He is a stallion maker and all he wants his winning Group 1s with new horses and also having good mares to retire each year.

If Joseph had no weight problems he'd still be a bit player at Ballydoyle, its a kind of philantropy, I know my son will struggle to do 10st in a few years time, so we asked politely for the Irish racing regulators to move the goalposts so as Joseph can have another few years in the saddle, up the weights for maiden and condition races, no problem John!.

I wonder did anyone figure out that most of Aiden's usually run in maidens and condition races?.

Now because of one particular jockey, horses winning a maiden in Ireland will carry 9st5 and if thought good enough to go for the 2000 guineas at Newmarket they'll carry the normal 9st.

Oh and the Irish racing authorities want the rest of the world to follow suit. why because of one individual?.

You don't even need to stop a horse yet corruption abounds within Irish racing.

Sad sad sad!.

Silvergreaser where is your evidence to prove what your saying.

I can go back 3 years ago or so and I remember the HRI undertaking this study. Are you telling me John Magnier rang up Brosnan 3 years ago to pave the way for a 15 year old Joseph O Brien to be allowed to carry more weight 3 years down the line.

Complete and utter rubbish of the highest order. The regulators might be completely useless in many areas but in this area I think they done a good job.

ruby wake up and smell the coffee, they can still ride at 7st 12lb in britain and nobody is banging the door down for change.

Oh did you check out the progeny of Brosnan's Croom House stud?, coincidence or what? that most of them are by Coolmore stallions, once a business partner always a business partner.

Irish racing effing stinks, and if you think otherwise you've been living in a cave for the last 10 year or so!.

Racing has always been for the Rich and powerful. I have no problem with that personally.

Lady Lloyd Webber, Lady Rotchild, Kirtin Rausing, Sheikh Mo, Niarchos Family, Khalid Abdullah, Maktoums, Lady Rothschild,Sir Robert Odgen.

Look at the English Racing side, bankrolled by Billions of Blood Money from the Gulf, Dodgy Shipping and Banking Family. Zionist Jewish speculators. Even the Queen, the highest lady in England is deeply involved with Racing.

This is simply Horse Racing.

There is no evidence that the whole of Irish Racing was changed for Joseph O Brien. Its complete fairytale stuff.

What is wrong with Brosnan using and having horses owned by Coolmore, if I remember correctly we live in a free country. Maybe we should have a nanny state so Brosnan can get a goverment letter to let him know what Stallions he can use.

Of Course its quite easy and fair to say that Coolmore have such power but in every walk of life there is Dominant people in there profession.

Give me John Magnier any day compared to the English Lords and Ladys that run the sport over there and lets not even get into the Arab Dictators that so many rush to proclaim and good for the game.

The lad is a fine jockey. Clearly if he was not AOB's son he would not have climbed the greasy pole as quickly but thats not his fault. He rode an 8/1-15/2 double for William Haggas at Newbury yesterday.

This is not about Joseph O'Brien its about the integrity of Irish racings regulators, not since the year 2008 have we seen a finer example of the controlling influence Coolmore have on Irish racing.

Even a control freak like Jim Bolger was left powerless as the official going at the Curragh was given as firm, it was designed as much to hinder New Approaches chances as to aid Henrythenavigators?.

Fast forward a month or so later the 5 pronged Coolmore battalions were battering and bruising all foreign raiders to allow Frozen Fire to saunter clear, with not as much as a one day ban given out, and all appeals were dismissed nonchantly of course.

The raising of the weights for maidens and condition races introduced to coincide with Josephs rise to the top of the Ballydoyle tree, a happy coincidence or what?.

He was pure brilliant on Fame And Glory in Navan yesterday,a cross between Steve Cauthen and Lester Piggott.

Fame and Glory had 17lb in hand of Unaccompanied who I suspect didnt stay. I don't think there was anything exceptional about the ride. I thought he gave Opening Night a terrible flogging, for which he should have been banned,  at Dundalk on Friday night.  In fairness he rode two nice winners in England on Saturday. He is no better than a competent jockey.

I wonder what will happen when we get to Epsom for the Derby meeting. Coolmore backed Maybe for the Oaks the other day. So that means Joseph will ride the 3 favorites in the the 3 middle distance group ones. Granted SNA onthe Friday will be straightforward with a pacemaker but the Oaks and Derby will be no fun.

As Silvegreaser says all very well to have the red carpet and conditions laid out perfectly for you at the Curragh, a different matter entirely trying to negotiate a passage up the straigh at Epsom, unless of course they have a host of pacemakers barging the others out of the way.

He has talent but he is no Steve Cauthen in my book

Correct soapp, 7lb g1 penalty and 3lb mares allowance. On form he still should have won by 7 lengths.

I think the St Nick ride might be the one to give the problems as I'm not sure he is completely at ease on the track despite winning it last season. He'll need a nice strong pace as well and the other jocks will know this, still the most likely winner for me though. This is the lowest profile ride of the 3 anyway and in truth the making of St Nick as a stallion won't be a coronation cup but either a 1m2f Group 1 or an Arc so in a sense this race isn't the be all and end all.

An Oaks would be a nice one to win but the pressure won't be anything like what it would be on a colt in the Derby. Does anyone think he might ride Kissed?

I don't foresee as many problems as some in the Derby as although they'll all be riding to beat him, he is a handy enough horse who should be able to slot in anywhere and if he handles the track, which he should, how are any of the others going to get him off of the bridle until at least the 2 mark where then the slight stamina question comes into play. He looks fairly bombproof. I thought he won the Guineas snug enough under an easyish ride and they also probably left more to tighten after the debacle of overtraining St Nick.

I thought his ride on Fame and Glory was a thing of pure beauty. Could not have given the horse an easier ride and still win "that" race.

However the litmus test starts next weekend and the big test the following week
