Absolutely correct a big old boat that needed the stiffer test of the Curragh.

This is why Rossa doesn't ride for a proper stable or any serious horses. Just Beckett handicappers

Not betting here but my view is that Ben is a big old boat.

Why? :  It needed a very strong gallop set at Chester, it went straight over 1m 4 1/2F first time out unlike the other Derby horses who went 1m 2f then stepped up.

I never felt that Epsom would be his track even if the going was good, his sister Giselle flopped there in the Oaks the year before.

I see Moore said the quicker going will suit today which makes even more of a mockery of him being a non runner!

"Obviously there was a lot of controversy around Benvenuto Cellini being deemed a non-runner at Epsom," said Moore. "He’s going to be back on nicer ground and that will make a significant difference to him. He’s had two disappointing runs in his life and both of them were on slower ground, so hopefully he’ll be a lot happier on the quicker surface."

They knew that he’d not like conditions and maybe the track but still supposedly ran him.

With his obvious stamina credentials mentioned above, the stiffer Curragh test should be more to his liking than Epsom.

I’m not backing Christmas Day but would like to see him confirm form, going into the Derby DD had said that on pedigree he might not like soft.

He form on good ground, the first up race where he carried a penalty has been franked, but I’m not going to lose my money won on him in the event of an AOB stitch up there today.

Penzance had said that 3’s looked short a while back and his price made no appeal back then and doesn’t today.

Standard time for Epsom is 2.35.6

A big old boat outstayed those who raced prominently.

Where were you answering here back then?

penzance • June 8, 2026 1:41 PM BST
Can anyone on here see Benvenuto Cellini over turning the form with
the Epsom 1ST 3 if they meet again,I can't myself.3/1 looks short to me.

It wasn’t given a hard time and we’ve been here before, last year. The horse made the market since it won at Chester.

He’d been 2/1 since then. Plenty of time to lay it.  Then the money came for the winner who was ridden to win.

Yes I can see the result changed, on different ground, but mainly tactics.

Interesting on RTE that AOB intimating that Moore feels the winner would probably be better at 10f and the ground and speed, compared to the second and third, would be the difference. That was the view before the race. Interesting to hear if its still the same. Second and third Leger horses. Fran Berry pretty scathing on Rossa Ryan's ride.

He’s outstayed them today there, let’s see him in the Juddmonte if 10f is his trip.

The Curragh is a stiff track yes. Stiffer might have been a mistype but at least I was there contributing to the thread before the race and basically said he’ll win because of the track suiting.

Rossa gave up the rail, but clearly in the knowledge that half the field would have blocked him in (unlike the winner). Obviously the mafia give the opposition paranoia. Could quibble if beat a length but he wasn't anywhere near good enough anyway.

Off subject but Weld really fancies Purview for the BC Turf. He says he trained the horse to peak at the latter end of the season and hasn't ruled out the Irish Champion Stakes. Thinks the ground would be too soft for a go at the Arc.

I’ll give my opinion, I think that Ascot will suit him as a stamina test.

Am I backing, no at the odds it makes little appeal, like the odds today didn’t draw me in to back despite seeing him as the likely winner.
