RP has moved into the 21st century with their website/racecard design. More of a tab format that the modern generations are familiar with.

There seems to be a difference of opinion here.
Leif The Brainless thinks it is an upgrade and the 250 others on the thread who disagree are Dinosaurs. Thick as an elephants trunk ![]() |

Horrible change. How can you get rid of pedigrees on flat cards? The results pages have not changed thank goodness.

Calling people, “Dinosaurs” is ageist, as someone who soposidly cares about just morality on certain issues you sure pick your targets.
So you love the new design, you’ve made that clear. |

Think you've misunderstood the question, leif.
Could be interpreted two ways. I don't think sageform was asking how to stop the horse's pedigree from showing on the racecard. Rather, that for some reason he's not seeing them so he's assuming they've dumped them. He just needs to click on 'Settings' to check and then toggle the 'Pedigree' setting to the 'on' position if need be. As you'll see from the image below, I've chosen not to see the pedigree displayed..... ![]() |

As I don't use the RP as a primary source of form study I will defer to those who do. But my objections initially were mainly on the absence of information - viz, the RPR and Topspeed tables that used to be at the foot of the racecard.
They have now reappeared and a reply to my e mail DID confirm that there had been a glitch. It would have beed nice to have had that publically acknowedged while the fix was underway, but as far as I'm aware that didn't happen. Not knowing whether it was a malfunction or whether the feature had moved to a higher pricing band, left me wondering what to do. Now that they are back, I can say that it's an inconvenience having to navigate to a separate tab away from the racecard, but that is really a function of "muscle memory". I keep scrolling down before remembering that it's been relocated, and having to scroll back up again to click the tab. However, that's really what I wanted to say here. I wonder if some objections are intinctive resistance to change. When we are all used to where things are, particularly the features we regularly use, repetition will reinforce itself in the brain. I actually think there is some useful information in the Data Tab. The lack of consultation, standard e mail responses, and absence of acknowledgements stand as criticism; and whether any of this was actually needed, remains highly questionable. |

When I ask portrait or landscape to print the card it prints every horse name twice.Looks like a waste of paper. Is that me or a glithc on the new site.Tried print different computer but same bug.

It's most certainly a resistance to change Sage.
Happens in all spheres in the online space whereby folk convince themselves they are being ignored, overlooked, left behind etc. Embracing change for what it is and for whatever it is given it's here to stay is better than throwing the toys out of the pram. It won't take long for it all to calm down. If there are any 'bugs' they will be ironed out following feedback. Bugs are almost inevitable. Impossible to account for the unknown unknowns. |

Fat punt summed up my argument against lethargic ignorance by stating that after half an hour"I gave up".
No doubt his 10 year old nephew has instilled in him the relevance and efficacy of the new, tab format. Either that,or he has taken his laptop to the tip ![]() ![]() |

I have tried to get used to the new format but I cannot get used to it. I am going to switch to either ATR or Sporting life. I think the older you get the harder it is to accept change no matter how much you try.
|
|
By:
It is very poor and very user unfriendly.
|
|
By:
This isn't a minor change, it is a total redesign for the purposes of appeasing their sponsors, the bookie chappies.
Those who pay a subscription to use it for their own purposes which is in direct competition with the bookie chappies are not deemed worthy of consideration. Quite the opposite in fact. |
|
By:
I sign the petition.
Can’t we pay double for the old design.. It’s fine if they want to promote bookies odds etc.. The new design is basically. Bet spotlights tip. Click on bookie to bet it.. If I was Willian hill, coral, betfair done, boyles. I d be unhappy. Given all the odds are now in the Ladbroke corporate colour ,red, instead if each bookies corporate colour.. The main gripe ,is space wasting and faded italics. The writing of trainer and jockey is small and faded The only bold stuff is Horse name, spotlight selection, bookies odds in Ladbroke corporate red. |

There’s just too much space wasted with white background,
Why Each line should have a purpose The gaps are bigger than the writing, Take you 5 mins to scroll down all the runners in the national Just cram it all up closer, change corporate colours, which I’m sure they will when betfair say,we want yellow, if not,no more adverts from us. Pointless setting your preferred bookmaker. If the odds shown match ladbrokes corporate red. Companies spend millions on corporate colours, only for the post to just dismiss this. Presume it’s in red. To highlight more,to make you click and bet,so then the post get a cut of the bet. But still could use each firms corporate colour. |

Not sure with the passage of time alone we'd get used to the new format.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with change, but for the better, not worse. A simple example. If you switch to the 'compact' card, all details regarding headgear, CD wins, etc, disappears. Why ? It didn't with the old format, so why now ? Is that simply a 'glitch' too which will be rectified in the fullness of time, or bad website design ? Bizarrely, it will tell me it's the first time the jockey's ridden the nag, but I'm not really too bothered about that, tbh. I'd much rather see if the horse is sporting cheek-pieces, has a win at the distance, etc. Is that really too much to ask ? Problem is, that's just one example of a load of niggles which together add up to a heap : a heap of sh*te. |

I’ve just measured the new box ,each runner.
Sad ,I know, but it’s a quiet bank holiday.. Each runner is 40mm box Only 20mm is being used. 20mm is just white space, totally pointless |
|
By:
The 40 mm was on iPad. Might be more on computer.
It’s 20mm. 10 mm waste on a iphone |

I've been using the RP website for around 25 years now, and they've tinkered with it before, making changes which initially seemed a step backwards, but you got used to them pretty quickly using it each day.
But, this is very different given just how many issues there are with the updated version. It's staggering that they didn't create a separate beta site with the proposed changes and ask users to trial it and give feedback. That way they may have avoided this whole fiasco. |
|
By:
Totally agree blue book.
I hated the post when the sporting life stopped But got used to it Then didn’t feel great when they did the big switch over years ago,but it was great in the end, loads of options, worked great. But this just looks cosmetic. They can’t improve the features cos they had it all anyway, Just it’s just look and design to tinker with, It looks like change for change sake. Plus the people they are aiming it at,I.e the drunks, casual race goer. Tend to not use the post site anyway. A lot use the app. Looks like they ve made the app and site the same.fair enough. They’ve still got the wasted space problem and the corporate colours problem. |
|
By:
The problem is
When you click on a race You don’t see a horse , It’s all info, spotlight verdict, options to set stuff. The horses name. Trainer, jockey. Needs to be bold print.less space between lines, bookies corporate colours, Why don’t they explain the logic, Surely even casual punters ,actually like to know the name of the horse or the jockey. It’s tricky. Trying to please everyone, The app should be simple, but the site should be more informed |
|
By:
Ok, so let's assume they're streamlining everything into one platform - an app.
I get that, to a degree, but it still doesn't explain why when you access the 'compact' card on the app vital bits of info' just disappear like a f*rt in the wind. Somebody clearly thinks that knowing the jockey's up first time is significant enough to flag up on that page, but not the fact the horse is wearing blinkers for the first time. ![]() |
