Cheers all.

As for the other two...

Bernie The Bear did reverse the form with the more obviously fancied Eco Power Boy, but that isn't saying much as both struggled to get involved from off the pace in a contest where it generally paid to be prominent.

I was well wide of the mark with Mersea, who found this happening all too quickly against mainly in-form male opposition.

Estimaid, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 2.05 Lingfield

Estimaid is returning from over five months off and has to prove her effectiveness on Polytrack, so a bit to be taken on trust here, but she's of a little interest at the prices based on her third place here on the turf track in July (9f, good) when she was stepped up in trip. She wasn't able to match the first two once headed around half a furlong out but had done plenty on the front-end up to that point, and the winner and the fourth have won races since. Estimaid was only seen once more in 2025, running poorly over the 10f trip here on the turf track, when quicker going might not have suited.

The selection has only had the six career starts to date and the first three came on the all-weather over shorter trips when qualifying for a mark. She is a half-sister to a useful Polytrack winner (RPR 108) at up to 10.5f, so hopefully Estimaid has a bit of upside at this lowly level.

Yokohama, 1pt EW @ 25-1, 7.30 Kempton

Yokohama has yet to win in 18 attempts since his debut success in 2023 but there have been plenty of creditable efforts in defeat, including when not always finding races panning out ideally. He's in a higher grade than he needs to be in being rated 72 and competing in this 0-87 London Qualifier, but he has decent placed form to his name off higher marks, and hopefully following a couple of runs back off a break he's ready to be competitive again.

Honour Your Dreams, 1pt EW @ 22-1, 1.05 Southwell

Honour Your Dreams isn't easily fancied here having shown little in six starts since joining Micheal Attwater from Mick Appleby, he's yet to win on the all-weather in seventeen attempts (though has placed on nine occasions) and is ridden here by an inexperienced apprentice who is seeking his first winner, however, the selection has probably needed a couple of runs back from a break, is 8lb below his last winning mark from last summer, and his yard has been going quite well of late with a couple of winners in the last fortnight and seven seconds, six of which have been beaten by half-a-length or less.

His jockey in this apprentices handicap James Glennon has had just the seven rides so far but was beaten only a short-head on one of them (Arantes Nascimento for this yard) last month at Lingfield.

Zephlyn, 1pt EW @ 100-1, 4.00 Southwell

Zephlyn will admittedly be of more interest when back over 2 miles, but as he shaped last time at Wolverhampton (2mile+) that he is coming to hard on what was his third run back off a six-month break, I'm going to take a chance here at huge odds that he can at least nick a place.

It was a steadily-run affair last time and he finished last of the six runners but wasn't beaten far, having been held-up in last place. If he's ridden the same way again then he may lack the pace to get involved, but if he's ridden forward now his fitness has been advanced, hopefully he can give it a good shot from the front.

Unlucky Virgin, four virtually in a line for second place and your two got the worst of it.

As for Honour Your Dreams, he travelled well and it opened up lovely for him (traded around 4 in the run) but his response was poor, so given that was at a time when his yard is having one of its good spells, can't say I'd be rushing to select him again in the near future.

Ocean Heights, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 11.58 Lingfield

Ocean Heights hasn't been competitive in three starts here back from an autumn break but two of them over 12f were in class 4 company, and in between over today's trip of 10f in 0-65 company he didn't shape too badly from off the pace to finish fifth, just behind one of today's rivals Sands Of Havana.

There's no doubt Ocean Heights is better suited to Kempton and ideally wants a longer trip (there is a 0-65 12f race on the card but he might not have got into it), but he's down into 0-60 company off a mark 19lb lower than his last all-weather win, which admittedly was just over two years ago, and is 6lb lower than for his 10f turf win last spring, so a better effort wouldn't surprise here now down in grade, particularly if kept closer to the pace this time.

Forca Timao, 1pt EW @ 50-1, 2.14 Lingfield (4 PLACES)

Forca Timao is a big price having shown little since winning a four-runner contest off a 5lb higher mark over 11f at Southwell last spring when he had a couple of subsequent winners behind him, and he was beaten over 30 lengths last time at Chelmsford (14f, when one of today's rivals, Hebridean Nomad, finished 3rd, beaten over 16 lengths), however, he appeared to be in better shape than the bare result would suggest as he had a wide trip but travelled with enthusiasm until his jockey was unable to ride him out from over 2f out due to the gelding hanging badly left, leaving him with no option but to ease right off.

It was still some way out and if he hangs like that again then he won't be getting competitive here either, but the way he went through the race until that point suggested he's in good nick, so a chance is taken at rewarding odds in the hope that he consents to put his best foot forward this time.

Pinpoint, 1pt EW @ 28-1, 4.35 Newcastle

Pinpoint was beaten under 3L into fifth place here last time over the 6f trip when he might not have helped his chance by switching towards the far side to challenge, on what was his second run back from a break, and the winner and fourth have won subsequently from that 0-55 contest.

He's dropped in grade to 0-50 classified company here with blinkers given a try over the 5f trip, so while he's slightly 'wrong' at the weights on adjusted ratings, hopefully he can at least press for a place with his fitness now more assured.

Ocean Heights was given a prominent ride on this occasion over a C&D that's probably sharp enough but set steady fractions and was easily left behind when the pace eventually lifted. Whatever, he didn't look in much form on this occasion but perhaps a return to his favourite AW haunt of Kempton will be the catalyst for a better showing.

Forca Timao is evidently not the easiest as he looked a bit awkward before eventually running on into 6th place when it was all over.

Pinpoint had a think about the leaving the stalls which meant he was at the rear of the field on a night when there was a tailwind at Newcastle, and although he was going on at the finish to be beaten just over two lengths by the winner, that was only good enough for 6th place in a bunch finish.

Bernie The Bear, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 3.55 Wolverhampton

I've got the impression Bernie The Bear might have been in better form than his form figures would suggest in five starts at Newcastle since returning from six months off, having shaped as though in need of the first two outings, and then the last thrice under Kaiya Fraser, not finding races panning out well when left with too much to do from off the pace.

He's again racing from out of the handicap but the switch to this venue shouldn't be an issue being a dual course winner over 6/7f, both times when ridden prominently, so hopefully he's kept closer to the pace this time and can be more competitive.

Renewable Dream, 1pt EW @ 18-1, 6.30 Wolverhampton (4 PLACES)

Renewable Dream shaped very well on his third run for a mark at Thirsk (7f, good) back in April, when from a wide draw he had a wide trip and was keen too, and although he wasn't able to go with a couple of Newmarket raiders and then faded to finish fifth, he displayed winning potential. The form worked out very well, the first three going on to be rated 99, 91 and 82 respectively, while the fourth won a restricted maiden on her next start.

It's therefore disappointing that Renewable Dream hasn't fared better since handicapping, though did finish a close third at Doncaster (one mile, g-f) in August. He hasn't offered much the last twice but the latest off them did come off a break at Newcastle (one mile) when the run might have been needed. He needs to confirm that earlier promise, and will need luck from his draw in one if not ridden forward, but this is a slight drop in grade and the return to 7f may help too.

Endofastorm, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 8.00 Wolverhampton (4 PLACES)

I'd noted Endofastorm at this course last spring over 14f when she probably had shaped better than the distance beaten suggested having tried to go with a George Boughey-trained handicap project from some way out, who was completing a four-timer. She proved expensive to follow afterwards until doing the thread a big favour when winning at Bath at the end of September, when she was one of three winners on the day for me.

Endofastorm has been comfortably held in four starts since including two back from a ten-week break, but what makes a bit of appeal here is Kieran O'Neill being back aboard, who has a record of two wins and a place on her from three rides. She has the outside draw and is likely to be ridden aggressively over the 12f trip, but evidently can go well for this jockey.

Another bad day at Black Rock...

Renewable Dream, who had to be held in the gate by a handler, and then was keen off the steady early fractions, probably could have done with a more even gallop having been dropped in trip, but even allowing for that this was disappointing. It wouldn't surprise if he came good at some point, perhaps on turf, as I do think he's fairly handicapped based on that piece of Thirsk form.

Keiran O'Neill had already gotten away with a couple of soft leads on the card, but having sensibly gone a decent gallop on Endofastorm, she wasn't able to sustain her effort and gave way over a furlong out.

Grand Citadel, 1pt EW @ 9-1, 6.30 Kempton

Grand Citadel has to conclusively show that a mile on the all-weather is what she wants, having recorded her only win to date over 7f on good to soft turf, however, she didn't shape too badly on her all-weather debut over C&D two weeks ago when finishing fifth in a 0-68 fillies' handicap, to suggest that she would have an each-way chance in this lower grade if benefiting from that pipe-opener.

Havana Joy, 1pt EW @ 18-1, 4.20 Lingfield

Havana Joy ran well in defeat to make the first three on each of her first five starts over 6/7f in the first half of 2025, but then returned from over six months off with a poor effort when finishing last of nine and beaten nearly 20L at Kempton in November, however, that's easy enough to forgive as she raced wide and keenly from her outside draw before weakening out of it.

It's an obvious concern that's she had another break since, during which time she's undergone wind surgery, but a chance is taken at the odds as her initial efforts suggested there would be races to be won with her.

Tommytwohoots, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 6.00 Chelmsford

Tommytwohoots ran well earlier this month at Wolverhampton in 0-50 classified company, on what was his second start back with Shaun Harris, to finish second to Secret Road, who has won and continued to run well in defeat in subsequently. The selection's three runs since in handicaps have been well below that form, the latest of which was just three days ago back at Dunstall Park, however, the return to classified company this evening can help and he should get a good tow into this.

It seemed clear that Tommytwohoots had finished second on the slow-mo but the photo took an age to call, and the RTV pundit called Bishop's Glory second. Oh well, be thankful for small mercies!

As for Havana Joy, absolutely dismal. She might have had an excuse last time at Kempton but not today, and it would seem on this evidence that she hasn't trained on.

Blondina, 1pt EW @ 100-1, 1.10 Catterick

Juvenile hurdler time again and I'm going to give another chance to Blondina, who was selected last time on her hurdles debut at Musselburgh when I wrote:

I'm going to take a chance on Blondina, who has left Jim Bolger's yard rated only 53 on the Flat, down from an initial mark of 62 having seemingly shown little in three handicap starts, however, I thought she shaped better than her finishing position suggested at Navan (10f, good) in April, where from the widest draw in 19, she had to use up some gas to get across into a prominent position in what was a well-run contest, and then having led under 3f out on what might not have been the best part of the track up the inside, she stuck on fairly well after being headed over a furlong out before fading to finish 9th.

She didn't build on this in two further starts for the Bolger yard, perhaps finding the drop in trip to 7.5f at Roscommon against her, however, then came in for market support at Fairyhouse to be sent off favourite in a field of 18, but didn't see her race out.

Her fitness has to be taken on trust back from seven months off and has to show that this game is for her up against male opposition on this first crack over hurdles, but she's joined a small northern yard which is capable of punching about its weight and interesting to see which way she goes for them.

=================

Blondina may now be one for handicaps in due course, but looked rusty on her return from a break last time and her hurdling wasn't great either, so hopefully her fitness has been advanced since and is sharper at her hurdles this time.

Lady Arwen, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 5.45 Dundalk (4 PLACES)
Rockbury Lad, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 5.45 Dundalk (4 PLACES)

A couple against the field at big prices:

Lady Arwen may need this back from a three-month break, but she ran a couple of decent races at Roscommon and Galway in a light campaign last season to suggest she still retains some ability, before not so good in the autumn when the ground turned heavy. She seemingly hasn't offered much in three starts at this venue, but might have been stretched by the 10.5f trip on one occasion, and I thought she didn't shape too badly over the 7f trip on the first occasion she ran here in 2022.

She's eligible for weaker races and this may be a pipe-opener to get her ready for the turf, but a chance is taken at the odds off her reduced mark (10lb lower than for her last success in 2023).

Rockbury Lad didn't run too badly over C&D on his return from a break in December to finish 5th of 10, considering he wasn't well in on adjusted ratings for that rated race, blew the break badly before being rushed up to lead, then set a decent pace before giving way from around a furlong out. The start of races is evidently an issue for him as he wasn't well away last time back in a handicap over 7f when he could never get involved from off the pace (when behind Velvet Skies and Salah Belle).

He's another who is eligible for weaker races, but the return to a mile should suit, he's off the mark he won off here in 2023, and hopefully won't be disgraced if not blowing his chance at the start.

Stratusnine, 1pt EW @ 40-1, 2.50 Lingfield

Stratusnine faces a formidable task on official ratings on this step up in class to Listed company, but with some of his rivals returning from breaks, and Completely Random taking a chunk out of the market following an impressive win in a handicap that fell apart last time, I'm going to have a speculative each-way pick.

It looked a big effort in defeat last time from Stratusnine, in what admittedly was 'just' a class 3 7f handicap at Wolverhampton, where he had to work to get across to the rail from his outside draw in 6, and then was pestered for lead on what looked a decent gallop in a contest where his rivals were being pushed along from some way out, before surrendering the lead inside the furlong but sticking on to finish second. The winner has since finished second and was one of three to pull clear in a good handicap at Southwell yesterday.

The selection has the outside draw to deal with on this drop back to 6f and has to prove himself on Polytrack, but interesting to see where his limitations lie in this sphere after just three starts on the all-weather.
