I believe CaptainCristy to be a lonesome divorcee with a social circle the size of a polo. I would imagine a polo is as close as CC gets to a hole these days ![]() Reg- my old man was in to home brewing in the 70s and 80s, he was very good at it, got some decent kit which helped, Lager, Bitter, Barley Wine (not for the faint hearted ), Stout, Plum wine. He did loads of stuff - my mates and our neighbours all loved it. You just need a bit of patience in perfecting the art ![]() |

My Dad used to quote a line from John Betcherman that seems quite fitting here somehow. "Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows"
|
|
By:
My dad tried home brewing and produced by popular acclaim a not-bad pint, but then remembered that he did not really drink apart from the odd sherry at Christmas, so that hobby was soon dropped.
Hmm. Maybe that is where I picked up the bad habit of buying things to save money, rather than because of any actual need. If I could have my time over again, then maybe I should have tried a bit harder at school rather than just passed the time there, and recognised the teachers were on our side, wanting us to do well; oh, and not taken up smoking. |

You appear to have touched the right nerve. The stupid man has gone awol. He single-handedly sabotaged a fine thread.Or tried to. Let’s carry it forward in the hope he stays away. |

Does anyone remember the early days of wrecking threads, besides two forumites going at it hammer and tongs, desperate to have the last word in a dispute no-one else could fathom?
They included ring bookmakers messaging their banal conversation (how are you? how's the wife? nice weather we're having) via the forum because they were too stupid to use a mobile phone (or too "shrood" because in those days, calls were not free). And my favourite, insiders posting obscenities to get a thread removed after someone had posted information or a tip deemed to be too valuable for public consumption. |

A classic 70s fragrance and very successful marketing campaign. Still available today. Seems Honcho's favourite antagonist's profile has been removed, has he been banned or just jumped ship ? |

I was in there after the game....Whiskey gingers for £1.79....yes please!
Fair play to the Barrow lot that travelled down....that is some trek. It must have been a long way back after we nicked it late. Proper fans if you do that trip imo. I was there. Would have been the perfect day if Crewe managed to score and me £1100 acca came in....barring that it was fine |

My first record was School's Out by Alice Cooper. I'd saved up my pocket money on the basis of the song's message and AC's look. What I forgot to factor into the equation was that we did not own a record player.

Couple more memories
Woolworths vouchers for birthdays - now back then you could take a £1 voucher in and buy a pack of polos or a few penny sweets and get the difference back in cash - that did not last long I can tell ya Anyone remember the Big Mac jingle you could sing to the cashier in under 4 seconds to get a free Big Mac ? Every fook1n day I was in there during summer hols ----The song you're referring to is the iconic McDonald's Big Mac jingle, which features the lyrics: "Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun". This jingle was originally created in 1974 as a print ad headline for college newspapers, which was later adapted into a jingle by Mark Vieha. The jingle gained widespread popularity during a 1975 advertising campaign, where McDonald's ran promotions offering a free Big Mac to customers who could recite the slogan within a specified time—typically under four seconds. These promotions were so successful that some locations, including in New York City, ran out of Big Mac buns. The jingle's catchy nature and memorability have made it a lasting part of pop culture, with many people still able to recite it word-for-word decades later. While the original campaign ended in 1976, McDonald's has revived the concept in various forms, including a 2024 promotion in Australia where customers could win a small fry and drink by accurately reciting the chant within four seconds via the MyMacca’s app or Snapchat ---- |
