This mystifies me, what exactly has he done wrong? Try his appointment of Mandy without him even being fully vetted, ignoring the advice not to send him and lying about not reading the paperwork! As I said above, there is a huge diference between a physical ID card and a behemoth that holds all your govt info in one place accessible by some sort of app. The former with some biometrics included would be ok, the latter will be a massively costly insecure failure that should be resisted by everyone. You seemed to have changed your tune slightly from the olden days Dave It will be costly and it will carry significant privacy risks when your data is centralised in one tidy spot. Yes potential cyber attacks and data harvesting. Can we also just sensibly admit that of course there are high risks down the line for this thing to turn into a control mechanism that could well erode even more freedoms and rights. Who can seriously hold their hand up any more and shout 'I truly trust my government' ? This infrastructure will be outsourced through private company contracts - big Tech etc and smaller firms you will have never heard of. They simply have to collaborate with the types of Google and Palantir. The bottom line of these companies is one thing and one thing only - profit - obligated only to shareholders Who can seriously hold their hand up and say 'I truly trust Google' ? People are quick to shout nonsense but it's generally those who have not thought this through properly |

Recent developments is the BBC realise nobody is watching their loaded propaganda news any more so have recruited the guy who worked on GB News to try and get people back. They want to control the narrative and are desperate to do so.
Literally more straight reporting in La La Land than the main terrestrial channels. Also realise that a lot of the major shareholders in X and those connected to Musk (including Ellison) have interests in surveillance so don’t think it is total freedom of your data in future there either. |

the irony is the ID’s claimed to protect you against what you fear will be used to oppress you even more so you can’t speak out without your finances being affected and it actually gets worse. Big brother is here. Look at other places with ID’s where these problems have worsened.

Lisa Nandy has not stated categorically possessing one is compulsory. Its main aim is to crack down on illegal working.
However, there's little doubt more personal info eg benefit, housing, medical and legal info will be added later on. |

Lisa Nandy has not stated categorically possessing one is compulsory. Its main aim is to crack down on illegal working. They lie, always have, always will. 'In July 2024, following Labour's election victory, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper explicitly stated that digital ID cards were not part of the government's plans, saying, "That’s not our approach". Similarly, Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds confirmed at the time that the government could rule out introducing digital ID cards, stating it was not part of their plans' |

another reason the BBC, ITV, CH4 needs to control the narrative is to destroy Farage as the far left do to anything in their path. it is there only chance to remain in power next election

I have no problem with ID. Most of us already have a driving license and passport plus credit and debit cards. Why do we need another one (at our expense no doubt like all of the others). £20 a head admin charge would help Rachael to balance the books for a few weeks. And as said below, the actual work involved will be farmed out to foreign companies (probably American or Chinese) who can "leak" our data to their own Governments. Governments are useless at IT, even worse than an old fart like me. Since earlier this morning I hear that it may only be compulsory for those applying for a job so that lets me out as I have not done that since 1968
I have been self employed or retired since then. |

And there lies your problem we have…

It's a completely different system sageform
And curiously so many countries at the very same time - almost in some kind of lockstep Can't think of many things in the past that were synchronized like that from so many vastly different areas - can you ? AI GENERATED ANSWER - ALWAYS FACT CHECK AI - it doesn't always produce the truth 'As of 2025, the following countries are actively rolling out or have significantly advanced their digital ID systems, including national digital identity programs, mobile driver’s licenses, or government-backed digital wallets. This list includes nations with confirmed launches, expansions, or major implementation milestones in 2025: Countries Rolling Out Digital ID in 2025 Austria Australia Belgium Brazil Canada Chile China Colombia Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece India Ireland Italy Japan Malawi Mexico Netherlands New Zealand Nigeria Norway Peru Philippines Poland Portugal Republic of Korea (South Korea) Rwanda Singapore Slovakia Spain Sweden Switzerland United Arab Emirates (UAE) United Kingdom (UK) United States (US) Vietnam Argentina Notes: All 27 European Union (EU) member states are in the process of implementing the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet by 2026, with many launching pilots or integrating national systems in 2025. The EU countries listed above are part of this broader rollout. The United States is expanding mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs), with 29 states expected to offer them by end of 2025. China launched its National Online Identity Authentication Service in July 2025. Vietnam made digital ID mandatory for banking services starting July 1, 2025. UK’s GOV.UK Wallet and Australia Post Digital ID are key national initiatives gaining traction. Several African nations (e.g., Nigeria, Rwanda, Malawi) are advancing digital ID for financial inclusion and public services.
