I agree with those saying a long community service would be a good idea. You can’t send someone down for five plus years for chopping down a tree. I know it was a tree loved by many, it had heritage and it was a bit of a film star too, but it was only a tree. 15 billion of them are chopped down each year.

They’d be the laughing stock of prison. People would be serving lesser sentences than them for committing far worse crimes. If they do get a long sentence, there’s no way they’d serve much of it.

4 years 3 months   minus time already in jail    will only serve 40% in jail

Thank you s.kenbo.
Not one single complaint about the dead and gone millions, which continue to be destroyed ALL AROUND THE WORLD.

And still no answer to my earlier question.  From anyone.
Which is of course.   Have any outraged forumites taken steps to plant a sapling in Sycamore Gap’s memory?

Graham and Carruthers are jailed
Graham and Carruthers are each jailed for four years and three months.

The time they have served on remand will count towards the sentence.

The American invaders thought that there they’d always be one more Buffalo to shoot.

Just a tree.

We’re not talking about the problems the world faces but this, the damage done to the wall was because of their thuggish actions.
By:

They were absolute idiots. Probably the dregs of society at a guess (I’ve read very little about them), but the damage to the wall was £1500, wasn’t it? A few days labour pretty much to restore it.
By:

When: 15 Jul 25 15:37
Agreed.  Mourn the wall.  Regret the tree.  Despatch the poor lone buffalo as it is of no relevance to this story and vilify two stupid people who clearly need mental treatment rather than porridge.
Not to mention that the fruitcake, sanctimonious, brainwashed public is avenged.

But it’s about respect that I’d mentioned in my post earlier and that seems to have gone over everyone’s head.

I’m not for burning them but precedents have to be set.

Asking us if we’ve planted trees isn’t on subject either Loyal.

The Buffalo is a metaphor there’s always one more…

We all known there is no level of equal justice with punishments given out and we’re making it too easy for people to hide behind the mental health card.

Agree I’d rather see Spew Edward’s banged up.

Jeremy Vine had interviewed a guy on 2 and he had said that he felt sorry for that perverted creep. Vine the wet blanket said nothing, jobs worth, spineless ring piece.

don't believe the drunken idiots line is the whole story.  My guess is the ringleader got the village idiot to chop the tree down  because the public were walking towards the tree past his land on the route of the wall.  He didn't want them anywhere near his property.
By:

I know it is a metaphor but totally misplaced on this occasion, imo, as this wasn’t the “last” tree.
Do you honestly think that this “respectful” decision will deter any future tree-fellers from hiring chan saws?
lol.
A fil maker uses a tree in his film and it somehow acquires mystical importance.
And the soppy public are brainwashed into believing a father should be jailed.
For a very minor infringement of the law.
Heaven help us until an anti-woke revolution takes place.  Sad

They'll be out before very long in one of these deals that let out the non violent offenders to free up space, they were just given a stiff sentence because they wanted to look tough as all the eyes were on it.

A father! -  That says it all.

I believe that if you keep letting ****s get away with crap that they’ll take more.

I’m far from woke.
By:

Hopefully you won’t be a victim of a minor infringement of the law.

It was a unique tree - so in that sense it was the only one, quite literally! Which is why it was used as it should be in films and photographs for people to appreciate.

It also had history something that the joke lot want to eradicate.

From IN THE FLESH Pink Floyd

Are there any ****s in the theater tonight?
Get them up against the wall!
There's one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me,
Get him up against the wall!
That one looks Jewish!
And that one's a coon!
Who let all of this riff-raff into the room?
There's one smoking a joint,
And another with spots!
If I had my way,
I'd have all of you shot!

Laugh

Anyone that wants justice and a return of respect in society isn’t always the person you’re hinting at.

The word that rhymes with Spear was hidden! LaughLaughLaughLaugh

Yet another offensive word left in.

You were asking Impossible about free speech earlier…. Welcome to the new world.

It was DEAD long ago.

By the way there are SPEAR art shows advertised and it’s a hashtag! An art form apparently like art needs to categorised by the person’s sexual preference, sex, colour or creed.

Completely disproportionate sentences, over 4 years fir chopping
Down an old tree? they will surely Have to appeal the severity

The judge said that the offences were aggravated
by the “extraordinary social impact” of the crime.

Extraordinary social impact, hmmmm!!!

She added that the tree had been a “symbol of the untamed beauty”
of the landscape around Hadrian’s Wall and its felling caused “widespread distress

And widespread distress ??? I’d suggest a little woke is judge Lam Bert

Trial itself will have cost a fortune and evidence was overwhelming, daresay will be reduced on appeal though, wonder what sentence they'd have got if pleaded guilty?

both defence and prosecution agreed on charges/tariffs , all judge has done is say it was at higher end and given highest tariff ,even let one off with his previous 4 offences 2 for battery, because they wernt similar crimes and give him same  reduction for 1st offence the other fella got
absolutely no chance of an appeal, they might get sentence increased
By:

When: 15 Jul 25 16:47
onnce the defence accepted the scope of the charges/higheest tariffs and then pleaded not guilty ,they were stuffed if found guilty
