Send him to Siberia or Timbuktu. He's surplus to requirements here. At his age he ought to have known better. Any financial assistance from the state for getting him high on drugs? Or is he a dealer?

Was any copper carrying a gun? If not, why not? He'd have been taken out there and then, and deal with the questions later. What good will this person be in jail? Only wasting scarce financial and other resources.

Dangerous game to play posting names and pics on social media, as you say Howard it could easily all go wrong for an innocent person.

As always on here, judge and Jury and law experts without the actual facts in front of them!!  Obviously failed a drug swab but that could mean a miniscule trace of cannabis or even a prescription drug, no excuse tbf but perspective that he may not have been impaired any more than an average person on painkillers.

As for attempted murder, that is ludicrous to think that would float past the CPS as a charge that gets to Court and BTW they have all the time they wish to "Charge" him, 72 hours is only for detention and can be extended.

Going by the visual evidence alone he could be guilty of plenty but even if he had drugs in his system attempted murder is a stretch, did not look as if he had "intent". Looked like somebody who had taken a wrong turn and then panicked when the mob started attacking his car?

That is what it looks like from the visual evidence, may be more but baying for blood based on it is way premature imvho?

detention is 24 hours before extension.

After 24 hours in police custody in the UK, the police must either release you or charge you with a crime. If they haven't made a decision within 24 hours, they can only hold you for a further period with specific authorization, which depends on the severity of the suspected offense.

Never heard about channel 4 prog  "24 hours in Police Custody"

LOL

So they are handcuffed if not charging within 24 hours you are saying JML? Google has a lot to answer for!!
By:

According to gov.uk :

How long you can be held in custody
The police can hold you for up to 24 hours before they have to charge you with a crime or release you.

They can apply to hold you for up to 36 or 96 hours if you’re suspected of a serious crime, such as murder.

You can be held without charge for up to 14 days if you’re arrested under the Terrorism Act.

I would suggest that JML is therefore correct and Cagliari is the one without the actual facts to call on.

Please point out what is wrong with the gov.uk wording ?

By:

When: 28 May 25 18:58
Your second sentence should make it obvious!! I merely stated that JML seemed to think 24 hrs was the cut off to charge or release, looks like he used the same reference as you and failed to understand it?

I must have authorised a lot of extensions that were unlawful if you don't understand, 36 hours inhouse and a further 36 by a Magistrate and longer if terror related when I was DCI OIC RCS, but it might have changed, if so where?
By:
DixieDean60
When: 28 May 25 19:27
Its not "my" second sentence, it was cut and paste from the gov.uk website. I fully understand the procedure as denoted. You are released or charged after 24 hours unless an extension is granted.

You can be held for up to 24 hours UNLESS you get an extension granted by an authorised person (as you have now stated) followed by further applications for more 12 hour extensions up to a max of 96 hours depending on severity of offence. Which is pretty much what JML was saying in his posts at 5.46 and 5.53 pm and you seem to have blanked out.
