Imagine if he were to beat Kyprios....his reputation would be restored and he'd go down in the record books

Always a possibility that the horse is just not bothered anymore with hurdles and maybe needs fences to get the concentration back.
By:
Needs a good look at the jumps by leading and doesn't seem to like being amongst horses as its concentration dips, connections very lucky to still have a horse after its last 2 runs.
Ride it like it's the best horse in the race. |
By:
Always seemed to be such a natural hurdler yet Hendo says they have been trying to get CH to adjust when needed.
Probably confusing the poor beast. |
By:
After this fall I do not think it's a good idea to go to Punchestown to do battle with State Man and Lossiemouth; Vauban was sold for about £1m to go flat racing in Aussieland. How much will Constitution Hill fetch? Both are geldings.

After 2 falls in a row and a jockey who is totally gone at game. Travelling to Ireland and taking on best 2m again doesn’t sound like good plan to me

He barely even saw the flight that he fell at. Nico panicked and pulled him round 2 horses just as the hurdle was coming up. Townend must have been laughing his socks off.
By:
Don Cossack suffered the same fate in the King George before winning the Gold Cup 3 months later. I think his pilot did something very similar eg repositioned to the right and quickened at the same time just before jumping the fence.
By:
Worth remembering that the beast has taken off early at least one hurdle (2 today) in his last 3 races. When he did it at the last at Cheltenham, 3 runs ago, he actually landed on the taking off side and double jumped it. Nico didn't ask him up at any of those mistakes.
I'm not sure the concept of "losing concentration" quite explains it here. For me, he's either got paranoid about falling, (hence why he doesn't want to get too close to the hurdle) or he wants to get it done and out of the way i.e. too eager to jump. I don't think the horse is switching off or losing concentration. I think it's the opposite. Just my opinion. |

nico and nico only has destroyed this horse,he changed his running style from being an aggressive slick jumper to a complicated hold up horse,no matter what happens to the horse from here on his career has been ruined by his jockey,in fairness to constitution he didnt deserve that
By:
ironically, the trainer feels like the horses worst run, was making all to win this race last year though Trumper. said as much earlier. so not just Nico to blame if you're right.
By:
I believe this race last year was meant to be a fact-finding mission for a possible tilt in the blue riband race at Cheltenham. However, his pilot reckoned there was little petrol left at the business end. Hence a change in tactic today.

I wouldnt be surprised if we dont see Consti again on a racecourse.
He had a wind op, was off for a year. Next time we see him is a piece of work in which Sir Gino is cantering all over him. He isnt the horse he was. Might be time to draw stumps. I wouldnt be going anywhere near Punc with him. |
By:
Doantwin2easy , agreed . There is little doubt that Hendo's team have been trying to manufacture a better stride pattern , am sure plenty of placing poles etc . This type of thing is quite common in dog agility and almost always related to eyesight and known as ETS (early takeoff syndrome ). The horse should do better (providing he doesnt fight the bit) over yesterdays distance with some control .
By:
I care more about the horse than his trainer; the horse could get hurt. I just like to see he's ok. I do not want to see any more fall from him. One is one too many; two is a concern; 3 could be fatal.
By:
People seem to have a very fixed view of this horse in their minds, and it's how he ran in the Supreme and the 2023 Champion Hurdle. Those were 2-3 years ago, but it's just assumed the horse can still perform at the same standard. Maybe he can, but horses age and they all regress at some stage.
By:
interesting mentioned at the time whether its true or not we don't no,but after lossiemouth fall,he said Nevers schools his horses between races after a fall, lets the horse sort it out on track, hendo said he,d done intensiver schooling with CH,not sure what you learn jumping same hurdles ,uncrowded at half pace at home.before resuming to the jumping that's brought you down last twice, and could easily have been 4 falls, last 2 have been when crowded, you wouldn't have a penny on him getting round in a big field handicap
By:
All differing opinions and everyone has one, some will be closer to the mark than others , but a lot of tosh said as well.
Someone on here using dog analogy , last poster questioning the pris of schooling after a fall. He was unfortunate , he got half lengthed and its annoying, but it happens. Just a great shame as the race was about to develop Those who talk of retirement for him , why just because he's fallen ? Needs some schooling and get him to punchestown over 2miles and hopefully we will see the king back. A shame they are not running Lossiemouth but no point as he's slammed her already this season. . |

By:
Questioning Hendersons schooling.Blokes only won the 9 Chmpn Hdles.
By:
I've stated a few times, the horse could have fallen multiple times, took at least one liberty in almost every race I can recall. Luck ran out. I'm not a jockey basher but NBD didn't look comfortable at all yesterday, it is possible his indecision was felt by the horse.

Nico did put himself into a position that did not help the horse; the horse needs a pilot just like a car. A car does not cause an accident unless it's a mechanical failure.

By:
I didn't question hendo,so called greatest questioned him by default
hendo schools his fallers alot before next race, mullins said on tv he never schools a faller before his next race, just thought the 2 top trainers in the game having directly 100% opposing views on fallers would be interesting forum debate, but alas not, PENZANCE thinks your a moron for mentioning it,hislop was interested enough gobsmacked when Mullins said it,of course he could be lying |
By:
I'd side with Mr Mullins's methodology regarding fallers. I think a schooling just prior to its next race could be more productive as it will be fresher in the horse's mind.
Anyway, the most important of all CH is ok, and remain so until next season. |
By:
I hope for an overreaction when CH goes to Punchestown as I couldn't have State Manon my mind
By:
I would be amazed if mullins doesn't school them after a fall.
It's like a child riding, if they fall off you have to make them get back on straight away so they don't dwell on it. Everybody I know schools after a fall to restore the horse's confidence and to check it is moving freely and has not been affected by the spill. With CH I expect Yogi has been in and done a lot of work with him and nico. |
By:
Both should target chelts Next year
Make the running or sit behind Leader , Both win they retire as Champions , would be a fitting finale for two great horses 1 or two Prep races early next year , Would let CH have a spin on the Flat ,as for Nico thats down to Nicky and the Owners |

Hendo hits out at "ridiculous" opinions about Constitution Hill. What does he expect operating the way he's been doing eg mollycoddling, not travelled to Ireland, etc, when the horse was in his prime or well?
And now post two successive falls he wants to take Constitution Hill to Punchestown. Bizarre! |
By:
wasn't it HENDO/NICO who started the ridiculous ITS THE HURDLES FAULT,saying in an interview at aintree that the hurdles AT PUNCH WILL SUIT HIM BETTER ?
By:
Constitution Hill fell for the second successive race in last week's Aintree Hurdle but is still set to head across the Irish Sea for a potential clash with the likes of Champion Hurdle heroine Golden Ace and State Man at Punchestown on May 2.
Henderson said: "He's fine and he's quite perky, and he's been out in his own paddock. Punchestown is the plan. "The whole world has their opinions. Some of them are entertaining, some of them are constructive and some of them are ridiculous. Everyone's got their ideas, but those who understand know there's not a lot you can do. There are a lot of people out there telling me how to ride and train this horse, but those people have never sat on a horse in their lives." I could not agree more |

Clearly anyone with an opinion different to him hasn't got a clue.
