Retire him now ?
Can't keep falling at that pace |
By:
head looks to have gone - jumping now a complete liability - good job he never went to fences
By:
Ive defended Nico in the past, but that was poor no financial interest in race
but you could see the gaps closing turning for home a prominent racing horse in the past being ridden like Sea Pigeon dear me that was bad ![]() |
By:
No excuse for ever letting Lossiemouth past at any stage. He never even saw the flight he fell as Townend blindsighted him.
By:
Wasnt going the best. Stood too far off because he was coming under pressure. Dont think he would have won , personally.
By:
Retire the jockey and the horse can resume its career.
By:
Two mile chases next year.

By:
Plenty of nice flat races for him at the end of the season. Champions day stayers race for example
By:
Not sure why Nico followed a pacemaker into the straight. Obvious he was going to come back to them and he had horses on his outside.
By:
half-lengthened by the winner after ineptness from nico
By:
needs to make all - he's looking at other horses rather than the hurdle
By:
How bloody disappointing! I cannot for the life of me understand why NDB didn't take CH wider earlier. The tip of the hurdle trips the horse up once again, somewhat like an "ankle tap" in Rugby. The slightest of touches, and BANG!!

By:
if Nico can get lumamba beat on sat its been a good week for racing, rancid outfit from top to bottom

That was horrific to see it develop and then what appeared to be the inevitable happen.Sad agree, frustrating too |
By:
Clearly Skelton and De Bonville seem to want the rail every race to get in behind pacemakers. However coming wide and clear run on straight is what the winners keep doing
By:
because he doesn't think! He was in a good third on Jango Baie and gets carried 10 lengths wide by the second. This time he allows CH to go back from 3rd to fifth making no effort! Why? The horse loves being in front. His brain has gone.
By:
a lot of pocket talkers on ere. Not sure The fav would of won anyway. and i backed it.
Besides that Nico awful. never know for sure. ![]() |
By:
Why was he sitting in behind a horse that he would have known that would eventually fade and come back into his lap. That wasnt a good ride. Due to his poor position he lost first run and got half lengthed
By:
Agreed councillor. Nico should be riding him like the best horse in the race
By:
CH was still under lock and key, he wasn't beat
By:
Whether he would have won is irrelevant! It was a horrible ride. Even Mark Goldstein has ridden 3 winners today
! |
By:
I feel sick for the horse, let alone my pocket. Can we bite the bullet and just stick Sean Bowen on him next season? Its as though Nico has lost his nerve when it comes to CH, and that feeling has transferred through to the horse. Get a confident jockey with no baggage on him, he’ll show us what a champion the horse is!
Another season gone.. |
By:
Calling Harry Cobden!!!
By:
not sure what's more shocking. the mistake he made, or the fact that some people think it was beat.
By:
For me i just wanted to see him finish. We would have seen whether he still retains that exhilarating gear change after jumping the last.
By:
There's talk of going to Ireland now
I think that's a mistake but they must replace Nico if they do go there |
By:
Wasn't definitively beaten but the jockey wasn't exuding confidence. In the past he would have strode past the pacemakers, instead of waiting to be locked in by the closers. Whether that was due to the feel he was getting off the horse, or lack of jockey confidence, who knows.
By:
He should be switched to Flat. His confidence must be shots to bits and it all started with Nico saving the bookies plenty on the distances bets at Cheltenham in January. They switched Marie's Rock to the Flat season very late in the day in her career and she ran with huge credit. She wouldn't be in the same parish of CH
By:
Run him back over 2 miles and make all. Both falls were partly due to being crowded by other horses.
By:
I think the falls are partially down to the fact this guy loves to gallop and isn't being allowed to go the pace he really wants to. This is why his hurdling technique looked so good earlier in his career, his desire to get over them as quickly and as low as possible. Unfortunately, this is now backfiring on him
By:
Always looked vulnerable to a fall, all but went at the last in his champion hurdle win

How not to race a horse, shouldve been on the flat, anywhere from the Ces to the Ascot Gold Cup
By:
Whippin, What do you think his trip would be on the flat?
By:
If it was with Mullins its main target would have been Melbourne Cup.
By:
He might have to duck and dive with regards to going (Trueshan fashion) but a trip from anywhere between 1M6F to 2M+ would be ideal IMO. Gold Cup/Irish St Ledger/Champion Day Stayers would have been my targets if he were mine
