Come on now Olly aint too bad but those 2 women in the studio just rabbitting on and on and Daft Mick Fitz interviewing is an absolute disaster . i very rarely watch normal tv racing anyway but this is absolutely pathetic . A terrible watch .

Remember the insight youd get off jimbo McGrath and the horses  bloodlines etcetec -- this is from the family of Danehill etc etc etc . Not much knowledge from the gang these days , chatting about a horse running off 8-9 ... 9-1 etcetc means absolutely nothing . no mention of Official Ratings whatsoever .

The old BBC coverage was miles ahead of the rest, both Flat and NH.

Julian Wilson, Peter O'Sullivan, Willie Carson, Jimmy Lindley, the great Bill Smith etc etc.

BBC threw in the towel on horse racing as did Channel 4 so good for ITV for bringing horse racing to those who do not have the sky racing channels.

The ITV race commentator voiced his disapproval with the shortie price of the fav/winner; ate humble pie despite the horse did not get a good break and yet won handsomely.

They give council TV viewers chance to see some live armchair horse racing , so full credit for that as the fading sport needs all the viewers it can muster.

So well done ITV  Happy

funnily enough dambuster, C5 broadcast a surprisingly terrific show last night called The Sewer Map of Britain. Delightfully non woke and actually very informative. Partly explaining the engineering feats of the new Thames Tideway Tunnel, of which up to this show I was not even aware of.

Couldn't resist it.  Are you confirming to us that ITV is full of,.....
As for the remembering of Jim McGrath who I admit was very knowledgeable I always wondered why he was dropped from our screens?
Anyone?
He used to make me laugh when he tried to transmit his modesty by saying - and he said it with some frequency - "If you go racing as often as I do you would know - and I go racing every day"!
Yeah - right Jim.  I always used to do the "We're not worthy" bit when he finished.

Read a detailed report recently on why our waters , particularly Thames , are in such a dreadful state , it went through all the singular to triple designs and showed us up for being a few decades behind the Scandinavians for one.

That really opened my eyes as well   Happy

I know it's c5 Hayden but I thought the show was excellent. What a genius Sir Joseph William Bazalgette was. I lived in London for 30 years and had no idea what an influence he had, actually changing the shape of the Thames.

Of course Britain has been the front runner in so many areas of civil engineering over the centuries, a lot of our stuff is now very old, and people will have learned from us. And it could never have accounted for the sudden mass population increase that politicians in recent years have used their own version of engineering to create.

Wouldn't debate what you're saying cider for sure but looking at the way in particular the Scandinavians have adopted the three way design for the separation of three different water types it makes ours look like something from Dickens times and just trusting to luck.

That decision making for the Boat Race today with the enforced rule changes due to health fears is embarrassing to say the least.

Which Scandi city has 14 million people ?

Obviously there are two main factors in relation to the Thames, extraordinary levels of over population, and centuries of development. Unfortunately you can just redo the underground, or the narrow roads, or the sewerage system. The could do something about limiting the population, but are doing the opposite and actively expediting its growth.
By:

When: 30 Mar 24 16:22
Ive no idea about whether comparing sizes is relevant Cider tbh it was just the explanation of modern designs that made the report interesting and how far it's come beyond the now archaic creations of past centuries.

Can't debate it any further as i'm a rookie on the subject , just read a report when the Thames situation became under scrutiny and believe what i've read until i'm convinced otherwise.

So that's all i have to offer on the topic , good punting   Happy

It's just common sense. I live somewhere in England that was a field 50 years ago. So all of the civil engineering is since that time that time, using accumulated knowledge. As a result we don't experience the issues I outlined. An property built today will always have superior insulation to a property built 100 years ago. The best built car 30 years ago will be less fuel efficient than the worst built car today.

When: 30 Mar 24 16:33
It doesn't mean that car manufacturing and design was useless 30 years ago. It's beyond comprehension really but so many people born in this country or moved to it are now desperate to do it down and do its history down. I think they think it makes them somehow seem intelligent.
