While I respect the opinions of those who are genuinely concerned about the dominance of Mullins and the wider implications, its those on here that are angry simply because of where Mullins comes from that it's two fingers up to from me. And before anyone tries to say that's not the case please don't as those people wouldn't have a problem with the current scenario if it was Nicholls or Henderson instead of Mullins.
|
|
By:
Certainly no need for 4 days ,that's not helping with attendance
Its not only Willie Though when his horse are not Winning its another Irish Trainer , Henry de Brom ETC ![]() |
|
By:
To be fair it’s not like Mullins owners are buying all the top store and pro prospects. The other Irish trainers also need to take a long hard look at themselves.
Either Mullins genuinely has sone magic carrots or the others are just not as good. Similar to Red Bull dominance in F1. |

So we are all annoyed because they are Irish Horses

its isnt the dominance, its a so called professional trainer like PAULING spending 6 months deluding himself he,s got, training a possible worldie 7 days a week, when he,s 4 stone inferior to mullins 50 to 1 shots, what does that make the worst horses in PAULINGS yard ?

How do you make that out MJK ? Irish horses have always Ran over here , The whole thing of the Irish taking Part makes the Meeting FFS

No one likes uncompetitive in sport.
Nowt to do with Mullins or being Irish. Everyone wants to be surprised or take pride in working out the puzzle. This has become what Mullins horse will win because it’s one stable |

its what made it great case

2 orses looking like they may win in certain races would make a Difference IMVHO

Who is angry, MJK?
I've observed on here on numerous occasions, it's nearly always Irish posters obsessing about where horses are domiciled. Most people don't care. Only one Irish trainer had runners in that race. 5 out of 7 and the others were 20+ shots. Hardly appealing to anyone. |
|
By:
He could conceivably do it again in the bumper. Indeed, it had already occurred to me that he might, I never even considered this race.
|
|
By:
Couldn't care less if every runner was Irish as long as it had some competition. Its less to do with the paucity of English competition and more about one yard's domination. You can appreciate it whenthey are championship races, but it robs the spectacle of an important dimension. Away from the Grade 1s Almost every novice in Ireland has an odds on favourite from the same place that can't sensibly be opposed unless you're just chancing your arm.
|
|
By:
how can you be a proffesional trainer like PAULING for example ,so supposedly no your horses/advising people on buying horses ,when you think your training grade one horse.s but if you went in mullins yard you,d literally see 200 hurdlers/bumper,s 2 stones and more better than your best, its like not been able to tell difference between a LADA and a formulea one racing car, unless something else is at play

Agree with MJK , if it was Cecil dominating in this fashion the forum fawning would be unbearable , many followers of the sport have a huge problem with the fact that their country is currently a distance behind the top of the tree.
Keep it coming until the others make a concerted effort to catch up , lowering the bar by penalising is never the answer. |
|
By:
I agree with you and well observed/pointed out. The distinction is a good one.

Any sport needs competition. My interest in racing was drawn by the 2005 Champion Hurdle and to me racing seemed a phenomenal sport with history. Talent spread out amongst plenty of trainers and whilst there could be a certain domination, it would be by a horse rather than a whole stable.
I know people who have followed racing 50+ years whose interest has been killed off by this total domination by a tiny number of trainers. This domination doesn't add up imho. Theres a stench off it and I am Irish btw. Cheltenham btw with this domination has become turgid. |

Willie is in a League of His own ,Untouchable

RTV do keep going on about English horses not doing well. It's tedious to listen to. Nicholls is the best UK trainer by a distance and doesn't obsess about winning at the festival. Or indeed, doing well in novice hurdles. & everyone knows what has happened to Hendo this year.

Racing is simply dying. This is just another reason in a long list.

By:
cut to 24 races 6 per day...cull the 2 mid dist novice races, mares novice & ryanair
remaining mares races convert to hcaps with ratings ceiling x-country becomes open hcap with qualification needed @ pre xmas fixtures national hunt chase reverts to 4m & has ratings ceiling all of that is urgently needed then if you want to look after the long term health of the sport its 1 horse max per trainer & owner in each race...as per ownership on october 1st to avoid them working around it |
|
By:
It reminds me of Tiger Woods in his peak. Its literally like the others give up before the start even. You can see the other jockeys are just gifting Mullins horses any position they want. And just tentatively trying more in hope than anything else. Hopefully this raises standards but i wouldnt count on it

Weird post. You think if Cecil had had 5 runners out of 7 in the Dewhurst, won it with the long odds on one and the other two were rags, people would be fawning over him because he was English ![]() |

What a difference two decades makes...
https://www.racingpost.com/results/2004-03-16 https://www.racingpost.com/results/2004-03-17 https://www.racingpost.com/results/2004-03-18 Large fields, large spread of winning SP's, large spread of winning trainers. Ans just the one winner for W P. What changed? Last three day festival as well!! |

Willie can;t help it if every owner of a good one wants him to train it.
For me he is a phenomenon of the modern age. |

certainly for a while 4 days did work imo, certainly with 24 races
x-country was a hcap, NH chase 4m lower standard of horse etc but the tinkering & additions in recent times...absolutely not |
