Waiting is effectively kicking a can down the road. In this case it was an easy decision. No need for any delay. Just get it right in the first place. The only question is whether they even needed to hear from the jock. If they do just listen and confirm they don't accept the explanation/twaddle then hand out the largest ban under the rules.

Some decisions are put in the too difficult basket and referred. If you are doing that with this one clearly you haven't got what's needed to be a Steward.

You wonder how many of these Stewards are too close to the people involved.

She is a fantastic jockey that is absolutely fearless through a race and I've seen her go for gaps that many a male colleague would baulk at.

Miss Blackmore is also a breath of fresh air in a traditionally male dominated sport, she is a fantastic Ambassador for the game and a lot of people look up to her but I'm afraid she and the Stewards have made a complete mess of this and they are going to have to do some job to extricate themselves.

If it looks, walks and talks like a duck...

most stewards either know someone...

or they know someone who knows someone...

or they know someone who knows someone who knows someone...

nudge nod wink and it's all done and dusted...

and when you have a racing media like the one we have then it makes for a very bad combination imv...

too many ex jockeys / sons or daughters of trainers / folk who are close to trainers or jockeys / jockeys agents who are doing the punditry / presenting duties who are never going to look for anything a bit iffy during a race...

all plays to the 'let's pretend it's a totally clean sport and everyone involved is a lovely human being' garbage we get all the bl00dy time.

all i can say is thank God i'm nearly dead saddo...

wouldn't like to be 18 again and hook up with some lassie only to find out she has some extra bits i wasn't aware of...

and when the drinks have been flowing i reckon it could have been an easy mistake to have made back in the day.
