but I have my doubts that the decision will be reversed.

BUT if they don't they have open the door to the explanation that "I wanted to ensure that the race was run at a strong gallop and let my mount stride on after the final hurdle with a circuit to run but the animal got lairy in front and on realising there was still a long way to go, I allowed the horse to come back under me" everytime a jockey rides a circuit too soon.

this could be the next Watergate imv.

All The Presidents Men and all that.

I wouldn't be that dramatic,,
they muddled through the Elliot saga, they are still wiping $h!t off their face from Byrne giving them the run around....

This will get brushed under the carpet.

Why didn't they just say that they didn't believe a word that came out of her mouth but thought that as she is the

(A) Darling of the weighing room

and

(B) A bird

They were limited in enforcing any punishment on her.

turened over to just catch the start of that 2 minute thingy and in fairness they spoke about Blackmore fairly extensively...

the clear consensus being that she did go a lap early and the 'reigning back' after the line gave the game away...

cannot understand anyone who could possibly offer a differing view personally...

hope this is dealt with swiftly and she gets a good ban for her comments in the stewards room.

The Racing TV bit was very predictable. All frightened to condemn it outright, and the impression given was they were trying to shift blame from Blackmore to the Stewards when she was the one responsible for both the action and the fairy stories.

Luck didn't actually given an opinion and the response from Osborne was about as evasive as you could get.

A pointless exercise.

i agree they didn't put the boot in to Blackmore...

but at least they chatted about it...

i'd have gone long odds on they'd completely ignore it tbh.

Tbf, the race day stewards by bottling it have made her situation much worse.

A 14 day ban & her holding her hands up would've got her the sympathy vote.
By:
HappyHibby
When: 14 May 23 11:13
i agree Wesdag...

and anyone who sees things as they are (and doesn't go down the 'all jockeys are wonderful human beings' road) will have put Blackmore in the 'don't listen to a word she says' box now...

can't stand folk who treat people with at least some brain cells with complete and utter contempt like this.
By:

and Blackmore herself has made her situation much worse too tbf...

hold your hands up...

take your medicine...

move on...

According to 'newsboy' it wasn't a 'cut and dried' case Laugh

It's partially a sign of the times we live in, you're not supposed to infer someone was lying if they are considered to be a good person. Even if what they are claiming has no credibility whatsoever. I see this type of thing in the workplace all the time nowadays, where best intent has to be assumed, unless you have tangible evidence (ie irrefutable) otherwise. It's why I got out of management.

has anyone from the RTV Ireland team commented on this so far ?

either on telly or on twitter...

i know Jane Mangan / Fran Berry and 'Kev' are on there...

would be strange if they just ignored it imv...

well odds on they have tho.

at least Jonny Ward said something immediately after the race on Friday night when i'm sure others would have conveniently blanked it.

Yeah, she rode a finish then eased down...just so coincidental the winning post happened to be there. CrazyLaugh

happy Hibby seens to have a serious issue with R Blackmore full stop regardless whether she rode a finish a lap too early or not, i feel sad for him really when she has been one bright spark to this sport in recent times which is choking itself...

FWIW I love Rachel & always hope she wins every race she's in cos she's great PR for the sport but we still have to call a spade a spade.

Remember Sam Waley Cohen doing something similar at Fakenham a few years back, it was embarrassing afterwards listening to Richard Pitman on ATR making excuses for him. In the end his porkies led to his suspension, cannot recall how long he got. Maybe someone can.

Didn't one jockey do the same by saying he'd tested positive for coke after shagging a bird who'd had a toot?

There's absolutely no need to rush these potential sanctions and decision making on the day if they don't impact the betting.

I feel like you can imagine what was going through their minds if they had effectively called the queen of Irish racing a liar, and banned her for three weeks or whatever. National news potentially, outside of racing. Bullying old men and all the usual ways that mainstream media can twist the narrative these days. It's easy from a keyboard, but stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum in 2023, and there's no need for these low key people to be making decisions that could have significant ramifications. They've bottled it for sure, but I'm not sure that they should have the responsibility.
By:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

nobody is forcing them to do the job if they feel it's too much responsibility for them personally...

they are there to make decisions...

if they don't want to make easy (in my view) decisions like this then they should shove off.
By:
cacique
When: 14 May 23 15:26
who should have the responsibility so?
By:
Cider
When: 14 May 23 15:28
Sure, but as I'm saying, there is no need to rush into these decisions in the heat of the moment. In other sports, football for example, the ref sends a player off on the day, but doesn't determine the sanction there and then. If you think about it logically, it's a bit odd that it is expected to be done and dusted in a few minutes. They only need to make calls on the day if they impact the betting.

You would have a central disciplinary panel. As they are pretty much doing on the UK now with various whip and riding offences.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i think most on here would say it was a very easy decision to make Cider...

there is a clear set number of days you get for doing what she did...

just dish out the punishment and if she doesn't like it let her appeal...

that is what SHOULD have happened.
By:

When: 14 May 23 15:34
For one thing, almost certainly RB wouldn't have tried the 'dog ate my homework' stuff a few days later.

Rules and ways of working shouldn't changed based on a single incident, but a fail to see how it would not improve things going forward.
By:
cacique
When: 14 May 23 15:40
A central disciplinary panel is a good idea,,,, but if they are as toothless as the stewards were in Kilbeggan then it wouldn't be fit for purpose.
More jobs for the boys.

Plus i think these stewards are as thick as pig $h1t and would accept the dog at my homework as an excuse.
By:

When: 14 May 23 15:44
looks to me like the Kilbeggan stewards :-

a) didn't believe her and thought 'this is too big for us we'll let the IHRB deal with it'...

or

b) there was lots of nudge nod wink stuff going on.
By:

When: 14 May 23 15:44
We don't know for sure that it would be better, but I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be. Perhaps even moving it into the 21st century.

true, its a novel idea I'll give you that cider.

But unfortunately for the betterment of the sport the IHRB won't implement anything that upsets the apple tart.

blackamore let herself down. i could understand a claimer being terrified of exposure coming up with such an excuse but shes well-established enough to accept she made an error. no geezer would have got away with this. but such is her status she did

i like her. shes unfailingly modest and always trying to deflect attention. no idea if shes a good jokey
