Racing Post, for once, pretty unequivocal - Lady Rita might have been unlucky, it is difficult to know. Her chance was compromised by her rider unfortunately riding a finish a circuit early. She was just pushed out to the line and her rider was beginning to pull up when the error was realised. She was quickly back in the race, but that exertion and a bad mistake on the final circuit meant that all of the petrol was used up.

Still waiting for the Irish Stewards Report which will exonerate the Irish Queen. Surely not, even in Ireland.
Report punchestown May 12, 2023 9:58 PM BST
She definitely went for it too soon, silly to try and hide it as we all mess up now and again whatever we do for a crust, show me someone who never makes a mistake and I'll show you a liar.
Report differentdrum May 12, 2023 10:01 PM BST
If she has denied it then she has made herself look a complete fool. Just admit it.

A long ban should be inevitable. If it isn't the Stewards need replacing.

The horse has done well to finish fourth given the horrendous mistake she went on to make which cost another 4-5 lengths. A win in this race would have been a tidy result for connections, and then you have the punters who supported it from 33/1-8/1. Before she rode the finish it couldn't have travelled better.
Report blackbarn May 12, 2023 10:41 PM BST
Racecourse commentator James Griffin said during the race that Blackmore may have mistaken the winning post but the jockey denied having gone a circuit early when asked immediately after the race.

When in front of the stewards, Blackmore stated she wanted to ensure the race was run at a strong gallop and let her mount stride on after the final hurdle with a circuit to go but Lady Rita became lairy in front, and on realising there was still a long way to go, she allowed the seven-year-old to come back under her.

Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the stewards informed Blackmore they were not entirely convinced with her explanation but under the provisions of Rule 212A they could not be certain that her misjudgement, if any, had caused her to fail to obtain her best possible placing and therefore took no further action.

Only in Ireland and only with Racheal!!!!!

Report HappyHibby May 13, 2023 7:44 AM BST
The Raceday Stewards interviewed Rachael Blackmore, rider of Lady Rita, trained by Louise G. Lyons, concerning her riding where she appeared to stop riding after reaching the winning post with a circuit to run. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that this animal had a tendency to run inconsistently and was running over a longer trip today for the first time. She added that she wanted to ensure that the race was run at a strong gallop and let her mount stride on after the final hurdle with a circuit to run but the animal got lairy in front and on realising there was still a long way to go, she allowed her to come back under her. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards informed Rachael Blackmore that they were not entirely convinced with her explanation offered but under the provisions of Rule 212A they could not be certain that her misjudgement, if any, had caused her to fail to obtain her best possible placing and therefore took no further action.

So why not make the running in the first place Rachel (Our Darling as jerry hannon once called her) ?

absolute piffle from all concerned...

RTV will be furious no doubt with Jonny Ward for even mentioning it immediately after the race...

i bet they wished Donn McClean was there last night...

he'd have ignored it completely and treated the public with complete and utter contempt...

which is what Blackmore and the Stewards did last night.
Report HappyHibby May 13, 2023 7:54 AM BST
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of The Echo Boy, placed first, as compared with its recent form. James Griffin, Authorised representative of Dermot Anthony McLoughlin reported that the drop back in trip from three miles to two miles three furlongs brought about the improved performance. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

there's got to be something not right about the racecourse commentator also being there as a trainers representative...

i'm not saying anything dodgy was going on but it's just typical of horse racing where folk have got fingers in all sorts of pies which compromises their position to a certain extent...

National news potentially, outside of racing. Bullying old men and all the usual ways that mainstream media can twist the narrative these days. It's easy from a keyboard, but stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum in 2023, and there's no need for these low key people to be making decisions that could have significant ramifications. Sure, but as I'm saying, there is no need to rush into these decisions in the heat of the moment. In other sports, football for example, the ref sends a player off on the day, but doesn't determine the sanction there and then. If you think about it logically, it's a bit odd that it is expected to be done and dusted in a few minutes. They only need to make calls on the day if they impact the betting.
