I think it's always been the "Betfair Chase", Impossible, though it's formally called the "Lancashire Chase".

Is it the owner who wants Daryl Jacob? Cobden is a better jockey imo and so is Bryony.

Bravemansgame did the Haydock/KG double in 2021 but there was an extra fortnight's gap that year. Four weeks looks a bit tight.

I think Pumpkin indicated the owner of Pic D'Orhy has 16 horses with him. But, Bravemansgame will be Cobden's ride again.

Nicholls said: "Harry's going to Ascot and he's got six good rides there. We've always had Pic D'Orhy in mind for Ascot, and Johnny's got 15 or 16 very nice horses in training with us and he needs looking after. Harry is very important to Pic D'Orhy, probably more so than the other way round with Bravemansgame.

"Sometimes when you have big meetings on a Saturday you have to make decisions that are right for everyone. I spoke to Bryan [Drew, owner of Bravemansgame] in depth and Harry, and he's got six good rides at Ascot including Pic D'Orhy in that big race so it was an easy decision. We'll let someone else have a ride of Bravemansgame so if in the future Harry's not able to ride him then we have someone used to riding him and there's a first reserve, as it were."

I think Cobden will be seething i know where he would rather be.

Bravemansgame is worth 50 of Pic D'Orhy.

Look what happened at Closutton when Mr Mullins prioritised one owner over another eg Ricci (Douvan) and Wylie (Shaneshill)? It did not last for long. Similarly, Ricci and Gigginstown.

Looks like he will run i am still gobsmacked Cobden is not on board...Would love somebody in the Media to ask Cobden how he feels about it.

It's all very odd. And even if one takes the Cobden has to go to Ascot bit at face value, Jacob seems a very strange choice of sub.

Do you think so?...Has rode more Betfair Chase Winners than anybody.

Nicholls has sacked him once, and he wouldn't ride Big Bucks or other top horses in the yard when he was the stable jockey. Plus imo he's a poor jockey.

Fair enough i have to disagree though i think he is very good.

He said: "When you have a horse like Bravemansgame you don't want to see anyone riding one of the best of 'your' horses. It's a tough one for any rider to see the best horse in the yard ridden by someone else, but Paul and the owners have got a plan and that's what they want to do, so they have my full support.

"I'm disappointed I can't be in two places at once but I've got plenty of nice rides at Ascot that I'm looking forward to. None of those horses are a Bravemansgame, but they have some really good chances. Johnny de la Hey is the biggest owner in the yard and I wouldn't want to let him down either.

"Paul's won more Grade 1s than most people and he knows exactly what he's doing. Bryan is an understanding owner and a top man, and everyone wants what's best for the horse."

Nicholls revealed in his Betfair blog that Jacob would ride Bravemansgame should ground conditions mean he is given the go-ahead to run in the Betfair Chase, with the jockey schooling the eight-year-old on Monday morning in preparation for the race.

So what would those of you who think there is something fishy going on have done?
a) Withdrawn Bravemansgame,
b) Upset Mr and Mrs de la Hey and Chris Giles.
c) Ask the owner of Bravemansgame if he was willing to have Jacob ride the horse. If he said yes then everyone is happy apart from a few media hacks who want to create trouble. I would choose c.

Did anyone ask Nico what he'd do if Hendo did the same with Constitution Hill to kowtow to the largest patron in the yard? I'd think Nico would politely tell Hendo to go and fly a kite!
By:

No comparison at all. CH is a superstar. We may already have seen the best of Bravemansgame and he is not even a certain runner! And Nico is not going all out for the jockey champs which Harry Cobden is.

Cobdens getting his arsed kicked by The Boss a blind Man can see that....No surprise Nicholls has plenty of previous.

The time between the two Group races is 90 mins, and the distance between Haydock and Ascot is 200 miles. Could this not be done with a helicopter?

Anyway, to forego the ride on Bravemansgame for Pic D'Orhy and a few non-events at Ascot is crass, and incomprehensible.

Stop pretending you don’t know the rule about only riding at one meeting per day.

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I doubt if Cobden wants to lose any of the De la Hey rides.

I cannot remember AOB doing that to Moore on a Gp 1 race - one ride or not. Maybe Pumpkin reconsiders nearer saturday.
By:

When: 20 Nov 23 20:51
Totally forgotten about one meeting per day. I was still thinking about AOB on Epsom Day a few years ago flying back to Leopardstown/Curragh post Epsom.

Anyway, Bravemansgame all day long for me unless he's withdrawn on the day of the race.

(i) I'd take Bryony over DJ to ride if Cobden not available; i think her style would suit his easy jumping action. I presume DJ has links to one of the BMG owners.

(ii) If Pic wins on Saturday, finishing well, he's entered for the King George... what then

Protekterat is no star, but this is presumably his big target for the year, and he'll be trained to the moment.

Shishkin has done a runner. He's almost a certain runner at Ascot on the same day. As such, Pic D'Orhy (Cobden's principal ride) has Shishkin to contend with. With that in mind Cobden would be crass not to ride Bravemansgame at Haydock, if he runs; Bravemansgame will see off a fit Protektorat - all things being equal.

The Betfair is only 3 weeks from the Charlie Hall, and the anticipated going at Haydock could be soft (again). I think the owner is going for the prize money which is considerable. And, this will go some way towards his purchase price.

How much did Bravemansgame go for? The winner of the Betfair takes home £112k.

When: 22 Nov 23 09:26
Would be a no-bet race for me. No way of knowing how fit BMG will be. Given the number of times his target was said to be the King George, probably not 100%. But will have to have come on quite a bit from Wetherby to beat a tip-top Protektorat.

Meanwhile, will be interesting to see how Gallopin des Champs does at Punchestown, especially if Fastorslow reopposes. The 2023 Gold Cup form will be much clearer come Sunday night.

is corach rambler an intended runner ?
By:
impossible123
When: 22 Nov 23 09:49
Corach Rambler next intended race could be the Betfair of Coral Gold Cup as reported post his defeat 1st time out. And, Minella Drama is doubtful too, and could be Ascot bound similar to Shishkin.

With so much prize monies up for grabs it would be folly to forego, I think.
