Yes
Maybe Dance's liquidators have not got their 50% |

What a shame

Not from a betting point but from a racing point he as one of the most interesting runners at what I think is an underwhelming meeting all in.

Reason- Another, supposed to be owned solely by Bryan Drew, or is J Dance still involved?

The BHA are getting a dose of their own medicine from the FCA
I can see Sean Curran will soon be training him ================================================================== Bravemansgame was ruled out of Thursday's Aintree Bowl Chase on Wednesday evening following an intervention by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) prohibiting him from taking part. The Paul Nicholls-trained runner was due to compete under the sole ownership of Bryan Drew after John Dance was removed as joint-owner on Tuesday after his company, WealthTek LLP, was placed in special administration by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The BHA released a statement on Wednesday evening which read: "In light of new information, including a court order, provided to the BHA on Wednesday 12 April by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Bravemansgame is no longer able to take part in the race and has been withdrawn. "The BHA will continue to liaise with the FCA and other affected parties." The King George winner was a short-priced favourite to take on A Plus Tard and Shishkin in his first start since chasing home Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup last month. In a fresh statement on its website, the FCA said: "The FCA has taken various steps to protect consumers following serious regulatory and operational issues coming to light. The FCA is in close contact with the Joint Special Administrators and further information will be made available by them in due course." |
By:
The FCA was correct. The horse belongs 50% to Vertems thus must be used to offset losses incurred by the entity former head honcho; the horse could be rendered valueless if something untoward was to happen during the race. A shame for horseracing.
Can anyone remember something similar happened in the 70/80's? Old money is best and kosher; cowboys come and go. |
By:
I wonder who advised Nicholls/Drew on the change of ownership. The BHA obviously approved it, maybe they advised it?
By:
Killed the best race of meeting
Real shame |
By:
No doubt the BHA would have been consulted. But, the FCA ain't stupid. Remember what happened to the shock winner of the Triumph Hurdle trained by Elliot who then ran and got badly injured in the next race when its owner (an alleged drug dealer) was subject to a confiscation order by Customs and Excise? The horse lost almost all its value post injury.
By:
Has John Dance made any comments? Usually you can't keep him quiet.
By:
So, let me get this straight..24 hours after the BHA pulled a gambled on horse out of a race at Exeter over some apparent "integrity" issue over who actually owns the horse, the FCA have had to step in and stop a high profile horse from running after the BHA had approved an ownership change and OK'd a horse to run, who had been in the part-ownership of someone who is being investigated for financial irregularities?

Spot on George. You couldn't make it up and the BHA have in house lawyers

Shame was going to lay it to the hill with all that rain around.
ruined the race. |

Indeed George absolutely farcical what’s going on and as fattie says killed the best race of the meeting, certainly the most interesting.

Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Bravemansgame has been withdrawn from the Aintree Bowl on the first day of the Grand National meeting.
It follows an intervention by the Financial Conduct Authority. Last week it ordered a firm founded by the racehorse's former joint owner John Dance to cease operations. Bravemansgame, trained by Paul Nicholls, was due to compete under the sole ownership of Bryan Drew after Dance was removed as joint owner on Tuesday. Dance founded Vertem Asset Management, one of three trading names for WealthTek LLP. Last week the FCA said a 48-year-old man, who has not been named, was arrested by Northumbria Police after "serious regulatory and operational issues" came to light at WealthTek. The British Horseracing Authority released a statement on Wednesday evening which read: "In light of new information, including a court order, provided to the BHA by the Financial Conduct Authority, Bravemansgame is no longer able to take part in the race and has been withdrawn. "The BHA will continue to liaise with the FCA and other affected parties." Five runners will now go to post for the race at 15:00 BST, including three who contested last month's Cheltenham Gold Cup. |

The trainer doesn’t deserve this either

Pumpkin will be going mental, understandably.
By:
Yes doorman you wouldn’t want to be pumpkins cat tonight as you say understandably, between the bha and the gc the sport is in dire straits.

Hard to know who is at fault here. How were they able to transfer the horse into Drew's sole name. Once BDO were appointed as administrators of Vertem/Dance etc they became the legal owner of a percentage of the horse. It sounds like they were not consulted and the BHA approved some illegal change of ownership? I guess the true story will never be known as Nicholas/Drew are in a state of omerta

"Bravemansgame, the likely favourite for Thursday’s Grade One Aintree Bowl Chase, was sensationally taken out of the feature race on the opening day of this year’s Grand National meeting after a court order was made to prevent him running."
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/apr/12/horse-racing-bravemansgame-gold-cup-runner-up-aintree-john-dance?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter The question begging to be asked...Why the need for the court order? |
By:
I’m clueless mr c on legal stuff (probably clueless on most things)but if this was a major football event it would have been challenged immediately and the event would have gone ahead ,instead we have this incredibly weak organisation who run the sport I love.

Betfair Eddie
@BetfairEddie Told everyone this was happening 4 days ago !!! Listen to Edward if you want facts “BREAKING: #Bravemansgame has been withdrawn from Thursday's Aintree Bowl Chase following new information, including a court order, provided to the BHA by the Financial Conduct Authority” 7th April Betfair Eddie @BetfairEddie Bravemansgame will NOT run a court hearing tue or Wednesday is likely to ensure all equine stock of one owner is to be seized Fair play to Eddie, he knew. |

Betfair Eddie
@BetfairEddie · 2h Not sure how the BHA was fooled into a plan to get round very serious legal proceedings … when the full story comes out it won’t look good on the other owner or the trainer that they attempted to put this valuable asset at risk, racing as usual has no moral code Well, they're the thoughts of Betfair Eddie. |
By:
So they thought they could just remove Dance's name from the ownership and the horse would be able to run
[insert pic of Juan Joya Borja] ![]() |
By:
How were they able to transfer the horse into Drew's sole name
presume they also transferred all of johns properties to drew, his Caribbean island and his 114-metre superyacht moored off José San Banus Drew ... winning ![]() |

More wideboy stuff from John Dunce ! Accounts from Company House say he has £2m of debts and £50k assets ?? The guy has alledgedly been using millions of investors funds to buy racehorses ( at silly prices), stables, yachts , in the hope the stock market keeps rebounding. Basically, high risk gambling , same as Terry Ramsden in 80's . Some people's pensions and life savings are going to be lost because our financial system is flawed , allowing clowns like Dunce-Dance to get an investment licence. The signs were there, quote : "in his spare time he is a DJ"..Jesus Christ, you couldn't make it up!
By:
Terry Ramsden? I thought the bloke was astute to hold some very valuable Japanese bonds. But, his horseracing gambling was diabolical, naive and impulsive.
By:
The horse is going to the Betfair Chase this saturday as long as the ground is not heavy - it's at the moment but weather forecast is good. Daryl Jacob will ride as Hobden is going to Ascot to ride Pic D'Orhy.
Is that astute given the King George at X'mas is his main target? |
By:
Gobsmacked Cobden would go to Ascot.
By:
That was my take too. Despite what Pumpkin had declared I'd still doubt his participation given the exertions shown by previous protagonists (let alone the victor) at X'mas (only 4 weeks away), and being the reigning crown there too; sable-rattling to me.
By:
Great Week end in Ireland just about every big gun is running.
By:
I need somebody to explain to me why Cobden is going to Ascot to ride a 20-1 no hoper rather than Haydock to ride the well fancied Bravemansgame who Cobden loves like a Brother.....What the fack is going on?
By:
I would conclude there is more chance of Oscar Pistorius catching Athletes Foot than Bravemansgame running at Haydock.
![]() |
By:
Because the ride he was given at Wetherby wasn't as good as you and many others in the racing media thought it was. The horse must be so well in himself, they have to run.
By:
At the moment I think Protektorat (reigning victor) and L'Homme Presse are near certain runners on present ground; Shishkin, Bravemansgame and Gerri unlikely esp the last mentioned; the former and 2nd mentioned are King George bound.
By:
itv/ruk got their work cut out to promote betfair chase as anything other than a graded snorefest, but they,ll manage it protek any price you like for gold cup built up as superstar
By:
Was Betfair Chase used to be Kennedy Construction? Bookies sponsored races have lost their identity with me these days.
