A tough start to proceedings. A couple of risky ones today with one thing and another. The 12f trip round Lingfield wasn't sure to suit Oman, who stays 14f well, and off a controlled pace he could only keep on one paced into 5th, though he did offer some encouragement for longer trips on artificial surfaces.

Obtain was friendless in the betting starting out for a new stable, in a London Series Qualifier, and unfortunately lived up to the market expectations.

So the target is now 105.2 pts profit within 98 days to 1pt EW stakes. Oh my days.

Thunder Gap, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 12.05 Newcastle

Thunder Gap is a 6YO who has only had seven career starts, and was having just his second on the AW, over 10f at this course in October, when faring best of the prominent-racers and keeping on in a manner that suggested he'd be worth trying over today's trip of 12.5f. He had one of today's rivals, Hildenly (who's 1lb better off), 1.5l behind him in third.

Thunder Gap was then off for 52 days before his latest start over 11f at Southwell, where he ran below market expectations, but not sure the race went his way and he didn't shape too badly in the circumstances. Billy Garritty, who was aboard for that previous course run, is back in the plate today, and hopefully with a more recent run behind him, he can be a frame contender at least.

Littlemissattitude, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 5.30 Chelmsford

Littlemissattitude is a lowly-rated mare who has only made the frame once in 24 starts, so is not one to be placing much faith in, but she didn't run too badly at huge odds over this evening's C/D in September when not beaten far into 6th place, when her effort might have wanted marking up. She hasn't exactly suggested she's a winner waiting to happen in three starts since, however, she didn't shape too badly on her latest start at Southwell over 5f when suggesting the step back up to 6f would suit better.

Hopefully she can get away on terms this time in this hands and heels race, and if she can get into a good rhythm on the pace, she might be able to hold on for a place at least.

Atiyah, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 7.00 Chelmsford

Atiyah was having her third run back from a break over 5f at Southwell on her latest outing when shaping with more encouragement having not had the clearest of runs before clipping heels around a furlong out and being fortunate to stay on her feet. This is a step up in grade for her this evening but she's back on the mark she won off when successful over C/D in March, which was not only her sole course run to date but also the only time she has raced on Polytrack.

Hopefully she's now primed for a bigger effort and can give a good account, particularly with a couple of her rivals returning from breaks.

Thank you Brian & Rico. Unfortunately like all my best EW bets he finished 4th. I could have stipulated the 4 places as both Sportsbook and Nicky's firm were offering an extra place. Such is life.

He left the impression he wants further still on that evidence, but no excuses based on how the race panned out.

Atiyah has never won above class 4 level and that didn't change here, with her unable to get on terms with the principals. She ran through the line in fourth, and maybe back in grade and allowed to roll along in front (two of her 4 wins were "made all"s,) will show her in a better light.

Pusey Street, 1pt EW @ 66-1, 12.40 Lingfield (4 PLACES)

Pusey Street is a lightly-raced 5YO out of a useful mare for these connections, who hinted at Brighton back in May that she might not be an entirely hopeless case, having been caught wide on the track before not getting a clear run when trying to make some headway. She didn't run again until early December, when she made a bit of late-headway from off the pace over 6f at Chelmsford. Her latest effort over 6f at Newcastle was a poor one, though she did make the early running into a strong headwind, so might have had a bit of an excuse.

She doesn't face an easy task on adjusted ratings in this 0-50 classified and has a tricky draw to overcome, but she gets a speculative vote at big odds as I suspect there may be a bit more ability there than her form would suggest. A first-time tongue tie is applied.

Jubilee Girl, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 3.45 Newcastle

Jubilee Girl caught the eye on the second of her three qualifying runs over a mile, when rallying well to finish a close-up 4th in admittedly what  might not have been the strongest of fillies' maidens at Musselburgh in June, but given she's bred to stay further, there was certainly encouragement for when stepping up in trip. She could only finish 4th of 5 on her third run over a mile at Haydock, but she didn't face an easy task given the winner went on to be successful at Listed level, and the second and third were both winners in novice company on their next starts.

She's returning from six months off here on this move up in distance to 10f and switch to the AW, so fitness has to be taken on trust, but a mark of 65 looks workable, and three of her siblings were successful on articifical surfaces, including one at this track.

Obviously the favourite looks thrown in under a penalty following his wide-margin success at Southwell, but there was a suspicion that race fell apart and he is dropping 4f in trip here.

Zawahir, 1pt EW @ 7-1, 4.30 Dundalk

Zawahir probably ran better than the bare result suggested when finishing third of eight in a 12f fillies' maiden round Tramore in August, given she didn't have the easiest of trips. She didn't necessarily build on that effort in three subsequent turf runs but they came on soft ground which might not have been ideal.

I selected on her on my last thread on her AW debut when the drop to a mile wasn't sure to suit and, having been very weak in the betting, she failed to land a blow in a finishing a  well-held 4th. Hopefully that run following a two-month break has sharpened her up, and while she still has to prove her effectiveness on Polytrack, this step up in trip to 10.5f should at least suit better.
