Good afternoon Guys,

Many thanks for the posts, much appreciated as always.

A couple of selections yesterday, win and lay, both paying out. The well backed Sophie's Starlight made the running, quickened up well at the furlong pole and did just enough in the Great St Wilfred handicap at Ripon, only the 2nd 3 year old to win the race this century.

She's improved by 20 lb this year, the drop to 6f clearly suits and she beat a decent yardstick in Summerghand (9/2f) who was conceding 11lb. Entered in the 7f Heritage handicap at York next Thursday (has won over the trip) but i like to think connections will give her a short break now, she's had 9 races since May. Once sprinters fit form as she has, there's no telling how far they can go, Shaquille being one such example, although i'm not suggesting she will reach his heights

I mentioned yesterday her regular jockey wasn't on board and reading the RP, he couldn't do the weight.

My lay selection, the AOB trained Pearls And Rubies was always up with the pace, but faded out of contention 2f out, so a good day for me overall. I backed Sophie's at 12 on here, although i didn't play the 4TBP in the end, and layed the other at 2.86. I also napped the winner in a couple of the competitions here that was icing on the cake.

Decent cards for a Sunday, but there wasn't anything i fancied strongly, but i've already had a bet in the Prix Morny at Deauville (3.25) on a runner i've mentioned a couple of times before. My favourite French trainer/Jockey combination look to have a very decent filly in Ramatuelle who won the G2 Prix Robert Papin (6) at Chantilly by 4L last month, and prior to this, a G3 by an eased down 5L. Both runs were impressive and in fast times.

Highest rated of the 2 year old fillies that have one in France (converts to 111, but it appears the SL is not updated with 106). Winner of 3/4 and was only touched off by the best 2 year old, unbeaten colt Beauvatier on her 2nd run. Not a large framed filly, but certainly got an engine, more so considering she doesn't have a dedicated sprinters pedigree. Heavy going is expected and it wouldn't surprise me if 1 or 2 were withdrawn, but she's won on soft and receives a 3 lb sex allowance. It's high quality field and whoever wins is certainly decent. This is her biggest test so far, but i thought she was a bet at 2/1, although she's been well backed since.

In the same race, i would have been a layer of River Tiber before stable news that he had missed work, but odds have drifted to 4.5.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all.

Thanks for correcting my errors, i would like to blame auto-correct on my pad Wink but it was simply lack of concentration.

Good morning Guys,

A decent York card this afternoon and like the previous couple of days, not an easy one. At least the lowest priced favourite odds is around 13/8, unlike the Ffos Las card where 5 of the 6 are odds-on.

Paul Hanagan waves goodbye to his jockey career with a final ride in the opener (1.50) and must have a decent chance on Wootton'Son who is running consistently well this year, albeit only winning the once. That win came at Haydock that is not a million miles away from York on track configuration. Trip and going will not be an issue, but Heritage handicap winners are not easy to find by by any means.

Many punters will be wanting the ever-popular mare Highland Princess to win the Nunthorpe (3.35) even those not betting on her, and if she's in the same form as this race last year, she will probably win.

I will watch the races above out of interest, but whether i bet on them is another story (unlikely). One i've already backed is in the Gimcrack (3.00) the Karl Burke trained Kylian who looked a sprinter to follow after hosing up at Sandown. Didn't get the rub of the green at Goodwood finishing 3rd, 1.5L behind Big Ev (runs in the Nunthorpe) but was staying on well late. The step up in trip could suit. Currently trading 3.80.

I will also by laying the AOB runner Johannes Brahms in the race, his debut form is ordinary at best and although a few winners have come out of the Listed Windsor Castle stakes, i'm not convinced. I also think he will be better over further and at a track less speedy that York. Of course it's a double whammy if he wins, but conversely a free bet on Kylian if he doesn't.

I'm travelling back home to Linköping/Sweden this evening with much cooler weather that will be welcome. Only a short trip and back on Monday morning.

Shanelee

Thanks.

The original morning odds would have been better. Wink

The Premiership naps table leader Bluenose7 has a very healthy lead and deservingly so, but i thought i was going to close the gap a couple of days ago with Jm Jungle in the opener, 12/1 and got done a head and neck. Never mind, the Ebor tomorrow and still 7 selection days.

PHS

Apologies, i guess i could have explained a little more clearly. I meant horses that have been rated in France.

Ramatuelle has been raised to equivalent of 114, but there is another filly Jasna's Secret who is 2/2 and hasn't a rating yet. She was impressive in a valuable conditions race at Deauville with Christophe Soumillon looking over his shoulder with distain in the final furlong, she could be useful.

Andrew. I know you meant Highfield Princess or did you. I've been out all day and can't believe nobody has been on to correct you. FYI I backed Live In The Dream in France LTO but not today. Great to see Hamilton with a Heritage Handicap worth £51.500 to the winner tonight.

Good afternoon Guys and greetings from the best city in Sweden, Linköping.

My opinion at least. Wink

A short post (meeting friends) with a couple of tentative selections, one of which is my nap, albeit only because i need a decent odds winner. I fancied one at Deauville quite strongly, Junko, but he's been withdrawn although i doubt it's due to the envisaged soft going. I thought he was a bet @ 6/4.

At Beverley, I think the Karl Burke trained Indication Call is worth a small bet in the nursery (2.15) at current odds of 6.6 and 2.86/2TBP (bigger when looked earlier). Consistent. His last race can be ignored as he didn't get a clear run and was allowed to coast home. Additionally, it was over 6f on soft and judging by his debut run, on ground that doesn't suit. Back to 5f, good going and has run well on this course before, as well as in a similar class of race in his penultimate run at Hamilton. Receives 11 lb from the likely favourite.

Over at Naas in the G3 sprint (3.15) i think Aussie Girl has a squeak although she has to improve (and could). Ran well over CD finishing twice on the 2 occasions and has plenty of early speed. May be better on summer ground for all that she has run well on soft. Currently trading 6.4 and 2.1/3TBP so a bet to nothing.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all.

Tommy

Yes, i meant Highfield Princess, not the first error i've made on here over the years and i think most are more surprised when i don't type one. I proof read my technical documentation at work, but i get paid for it. Wink

Unlucky with Live The Dream, there were reasons to back him, it was odds-on he would be in the front few from the off and his form isn't too shabby by any means. Probably over-priced with hindsight, but i was never going to back him, in fact i didn't have a bet in the race anyway.

Good afternoon Guys,

Typical Autumn Sunday racing in GB although the Tipperary meeting in Ireland looks interesting and further afield there are group cards at Baden-Baden and Longchamp, albeit no GB/Irish runners at the latter surprisingly enough.

Baden-Baden is on my bucket list of courses to see before i leave Germany, but it's a bit of a trek from München and there wasn't anything i fancied strongly enough. Archie Watson has a runner in the G2 mile, but the only one i'm interested in on the card is Mr Hollywood in the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden (2.20). Regular readers will be aware this is one of my AP bets for the Arc, albeit very tentative and considering my average odds are as high as 147 on here, only for fun stakes. He needs soft ground and whilst likely to get that in Paris early October, unlikely in the Black Forest area this afternoon. If he finished in the front 3 it could secure his place in the Arc field, but in any event, my main bet for the race is Feed The Flame as mentioned a few times on here.

A good card at Longchamp and the favourite Beauvatier looks a class above opposition in the 12.45, but will be priced accordingly. Unbeaten, rated 107 (converted) and has almost 8 lb in hand of his nearest rival.

My favourite French trainer/jockey combination have an only runner on the card, but could win the das biggest event, the Prix du Moulin with Big Rock. Consistent and only beaten by a couple of decent types in his previous couple of runs, but prior to this had won 4 on the spin, including a couple of G3's. Generally front runs and kicks in the straight, although Sauterne could challenge for the lead early on. Probably stretched by 10.5f when easily beaten by Ace Impact in his penultimate run, 9f ideal, but 8f this afternoon shouldn't be an issue. Currently just over evens on here, i think he wins.

One i will lay is the likely favourite Shasino in the Prix Gladiateur (1.30). He beat a few of these at Deauville, but Longchamp is a totally different configuration and one or two could turn the form around.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all.

My sister Brenda was in charge of  Patricias Hope (1972) when she worked for Adam Jackson (Clapton).

She told me she deliberately didn’t see the dog all that day until it was time to parade it, then she made such a fuss of it, it flew out of the traps looking for her.

Came out like ‘sh1t of a shovel’ - trap to line winner.

Went on to win the Welsh & Scottish versions equaling Mick The Miller’s Triple Crown record.

I’d had an ante-post bet £50 win double Roberto 4/1 for the Epsom Derby & Patricias Hope 16/1 for the Greyhound Derby. I was only on £30 quid a week.

Watched the race on the first bend with a mate and had to run out of the stadium to find a phone box to let our wives know the result.

My wife was pregnant with our first at the time and his middle name is obviously Adam.

Bought a brand new Mexico brown Rover 3500 Auto for cash (£2,250) and the racing managers at Cardiff and Glasgow treated me and my wife like we were the Owners.

Great memories.

if you'd backed every horse in GB handicaps with 14 or more runners over the last 5 years you'd have made a loss of over 4,000 points at SP - and a profit of over 80 points at BFSP! BFSP can randomly turn moderate tipsters into apparently good ones. It's no guide at all.

So there you have it.

I know the story with Brenda and the bet etc, but don't recollect you posting it on my thread before, although i have a job remembering my daughters name sometimes Laugh. Seriously, the poster Lucky Luciano may know, like us, he spent his youth at greyhound tracks. You can check your posting history by simply going to new community and clicking on your profile name, but i did this on your name earlier (it appears to only go back 25 posts). Also try the Greyhound forum.

If you have any photos of Brenda/Patricia's Hope, upload to Google Image search and if anything has been posted online before, it will pick it up. You may be able to obtain more information as well. Good luck.

George, have you let the poster Gaze know this, it's obviously the best holy grail system yet Wink

Good evening Guys,

Penzance, many thanks for posting the link Happy Sandwich requested, much appreciated.

When i saw the title i thought i had probably posted on it, but i checked and i didn't, surprisingly, as i was a regular at White City and saw quite a few Derby finals there, although i missed the last one in 1984, the year i left GB. I was a young dog owner in those days and my dream was to simply have a runner in an open race on finals night, but i never did, or any other White City meeting come to that, the dogs i had never made that grade, but did win at Slough and Reading. In my opinion the best Greyhound track ever and i know quite a few on here will agree, the atmosphere on finals night was incredible.

As HS alluded to, great memories.

Good afternoon Guys and greetings from a very warm centre of Paris.

It felt 'tropical' even when i arrived around 22.30 last night and temperatures between 34c and 36c are forecast, depending on which web-site is used.

i'm here for the Arc trials tomorrow afternoon and a chance to see my favourite French 3 year old colt/filly, but more on this later. If i was here alone i may have gone to Chantilly this afternoon (albeit only to back the 2 year old favourite in the opener) but i felt reluctant to ask if she fancied racing on both days considering we're only in Paris for 2 days. Wink

A short summary of a few races as i don't want to spend too much time on a laptop.

Looking at cards over the weekend, an abundance of Group racing, although i appreciate not everyone shares my preference for pattern races, but there's something for everyone today on flat turf, AW and NH courses.

I doubt i will be backing much today, but i think Auguste Rodin is a lay in the Irish Champion stakes (3.20) at Leopardstown. I thought he looked a good thing in his penultimate run and backed him accordingly, but there was a stage of the race i wasn't confident at all. Is he as good as AOB once mentioned; it takes a leap of faith to back him after Ascot. A difficult race to weigh up with 8 runners, 6 of them rated 120 or higher and questions to be asked of several, so lay apart, it's probably a race left for watching only. I posted King Of Steel in the knock-out competition, albeit primarily as i had to select one anyway, but it was almost a toss up between 3 of them.

In the opener at Haydock (13.50) Chindit is lay for me, even though 8f on summer going suits. I've never really warmed to him, probably because he cost me a few bob at Ascot last season after laying him and he rallied to win by a head after looking beaten by Mutasaabeq close home.

Shaquille will be a popular choice in the Betfair Sprint Cup (Haydock 3.35) and could start odds-on. I was a layer LTO and got my just deserts, in fact i stated i would never lay him again. Post race reaction obviously played a part in stating this, but rather than lay him again, i think Mill Stream could be an EW bet to nothing at 10/1 with the books. I like young sprinters that improve when the penny drops and this one certainly has recently in a listed and G3 at Deauville. The pace appears to be on his side and take the fav out, it's quite an open field.

In the following race, i like Jm Jungle although i noticed the odds have contracted a bit in the past couple of days. I backed this one at decent odds LTO and thought he was going to win at one stage, but he failed by a neck and a head. Another improving sprinter who won over CD off 82 a couple of runs ago, again at Goodwood off 87 and just failed off 92 LTO. Watch him come with a late run.

Good luck and have a nice Saturday all.

Good morning Guys,

20 minutes or so of my life could have been better served by enjoying Paris instead of posting a summary of a few chosen races yesterday, the words 'pigs ear' spring to mind (Wink) and if i worked as a racing tipster i would probably be out the door looking for employment this morning. 4 selections including a couple of lays and not a single return.

I questioned if Auguste Rodin is as good as AOB thinks so i guess i have to accept he is now, and as for Chindit, i can never get that horse right. Mill Stream (8/1) looked as though he may come to the rescue when leading and going well (1.8 IR) inside the 2f pole, but faded into 6th and Jm Jungle (7/2) was also travelling well, but simply not good enough on the day, finishing 4th beaten just over a length.

I should have used a couple of my selections from the forum knockout competition (winners at 5/1 and 7/2) but we all have bad days and the stakes were not significant by any means. My weekend is all about today and only a couple of selected races anyway.

The Arc trials is one of my favourite yearly meetings and i've been to quite a few, quality racing, 20 euros entry with a dedicated seat (although you can basically sit anywhere on all levels) and low attendance, at least compared to the meeting in October. I will arrive before the opener, but leave after the Prix Neil as we need to get back to the city, pick up bags, get some food and take the train up to CDG airport for a 20.55 AF flight back to München. Normally i return on a Monday, but i have a meeting i really need to attend tomorrow morning.

Readers are aware i'm a big fan of the filly Blue Rose Cen even though she cost me at Goodwood, but doesn't owe me anything as i've backed her in 5 wins and only once odds on. I doubt i will play at 6/4 in the Prix Vermeille this afternoon, but i will certainly be cheering for her and i already have a few buttons on at average odds of 24 for the big race. Fingers crossed.

I doubt we saw the Arc winner yesterday, but we could today and i've mentioned several times i think Feed The Flame is my idea of the winner. I'm on with PP @ 9/1 AP and will be backing him for the Prix Neil (3.25). In my opinion the French 3 year olds are better than those in GB/Ireland and this one could turn out decent, winner of 3 from 4 and well beaten by Ace Impact in the Prix Du Jockey club, but that was over 10.5f at Chantilly. Unbeaten at Longchamp, 12f clearly suits and he has a very good turn of foot. The German Derby winner Fantastic Moon is in the field, but i saw him run in München at the end of July when he was beaten by Nations Pride and he didn't strike me as an Arc winner. King of Records will act as the bunny, set the pace for Feed The Flame and i expect him to win.

The Longchamp card has a favourites look to it, but any other bets (if any) will be small stakes.

Readers also know my opinion of the AOB trained 2 year old City Of Troy and there will be many on here that share it. My AP win bet @ 16/1 (only 15 GBP) for the 2024 Guineas is looking healthier now, as does the EW double with Ylang Ylang (10/1) and both run at the Curragh this afternoon (4.00 and 3.25 respectively).

I think COT is exceptional, his win at Newmarket in an aptly named race, the Superlative stakes was impressive beating a subsequent G2 winner by more than 6L, more so considering it was only his second run. His sectionals for the last 5f were very good and it took a while for Ryan to pull him up. Bucanero Fuerte (rated a lb higher by BHA) and a stablemate Henry Longfellow will make it a decent test, but i feel as confident as you can be in a 2 year old group race. I'm already on at 10/11 and this was still available with Sportsbook on Friday, surprisingly enough considering odds today.

The wonderful mare Highland Princess has an obvious chance in the Flying Five stakes at 2.55 (won this race easily last year) but if there is an upset, a fun 4TBP on the Clive Cox trained filly Get Ahead could result in a return, but i can't see her winning.

I had a nice relaxing day in the city yesterday, albeit a very hot one, primarily in La Defense and the Latin Quarter, areas i really like here, although we didn't do anything out of the ordinary, the only tourist attraction we saw close up was Notre Dam Cathedral from the outside. A reasonable meal in an OK restaurant (La Boetie) later and a couple of drinks in the Long Hop, a well known sports pub that is always popular, rounded off the day.

If both favourites win today, it will be a good weekend, but i will need at least one to win. It's racing, so i'm never shocked by anything in the sport and at the end of the day, i will have had a couple of days in a city in know well and love.

Good luck and have a nice Sunday all.

You must be a very good typer if it only takes you 20 mins to type that lot up yesterday Andrew. I think that Auguste Rodin was one of those horses that you could neither back or lay yesterday and most pundits on ITV got it wrong as well.
He's clearly a horse that's either right or not right, very talented but something clearly affects his performances, but O'Brien is usually correct when he says they've got him right. Chindit stormed home as well but horses can make fools of all of us and sometimes we take against a horse for the most innocuous of reasons even though the horse continues to perform well.
I know occasionally i'll post up a suggested short priced lay, and halfway through typing i start to think, "well actually this horse does have a very good chance of winning", but i still carry on to the end regardless. Sometimes it's just an ingrained feeling that you get that a horse will lose when even your own logic tells you it has a very good chance.
Anyway whether your thoughts turn out to be right or wrong they are always an interesting read and probably the only regular poster worth reading, good luck for today Andrew, enjoy your day at Longchamp.

Now at Longchamp, arrived before 13.00  but no bets so far. I will certa8nly enjoy my day here, Ii love the meetings, although i'm not really a fan of the stand, i preferred the old White towers, as iconic as White City for me. Considering the stand is not so old and cost a fortune there are areas when it looks as though a lack of paint wouldn't come amiss. Good luck today.
